    Ubuntu Software / Freeware

Just wondering does anyone use Ubuntu that much? Is there a www.download.com equivalent that i can use? i'm trying to source some software that would be used in schools etc. even some games etc. would be good too.

Anyone know of where is best to look?
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

Download.com is all windows and mac software, right?

There are lots of also free alternatives to Ubuntu, but they're mostly other versions of Linux. Ubuntu's probably the best of them for what you're looking for. You can download it here.
You can't spell failure without FAI

Assuming I've understood the question correctly.

Most linux distros maintain repositories of software, for easy download.

In ubuntu you'll find this under system > admin > synaptic package manager
For other distros just look for the package manager.

More recent versions of ubuntu have a slightly more user friendly version of this under ubuntu software center, in the main menu.

For something like download.com (cnet) probably looking at sourceforge.net, but this may necessitate compiling your own

Oh, an equivalent to download.com, not a download.com equivalent to ubuntu!

Yup, if i have Ubuntu installed and i want to source some software/freeware on the net (or where ever) where would i go to. If i am on a Windows machine i would browse to www.download.com to see whats available to download.

But .... if i can go to Applications > Ubuntu Software Center (3rd section down) and that has a categorised list of whats available then thats exactly what i'm after.
