Dublin I'd imagine. It's on tonight so obviously a desperate last-ditched effort. Alas, tickets sold out in record time and are very much thin on the ground the last few days as it's been talk of the town for weeks. Pity the weather is so bad for revelling, but you can never let the weather interfere in a good session, my spirit shall not be dampened!

To anyone who was at it, how was it? I had the experience of walking through the carnage left behind on my way to classes on Saturday morning. Not a pretty sight. Or smell.

The smell of beer is pretty stomach turning alright.

Couldn't risk going myself as final college exams this week; stupid Trinity putting it on when they know UCD have exams

But the majority of my friends went, with no negative reports. As a sign of socio-cultural shift the dance tent (and all its delightful corollaries!) has grown exponentially in popularity in recent years. Apparently you couldn't get in there at times while the 'main' stage area was only, say, half full. All the DJs playing were top-drawer names; Bookashade, Erol Alkan, JUSTICE, Busy P - all produced stomping sets. The 'proper' music was meant to have been alright, Aslan's Crazy World going down a treat. Ash, Delorentos and Director also played, and were 'ok' (Ash are pretty poor live IMO).

The quality of bands playing vis-a-vis the DJs shows you the way the thing, and as I said culture, is going really; corrupted youth favouring ear-drum bursting electro. Though that's how I would have spent most of the night as well so I can't say much!! To be fair though for a lot of people it's the one night of the year where they, ah, shall I say, embrace dance music and actually like it for some strange reason I can't put my finger on.

Its kinda the same at ucc during rag week with the battle of the djs in the old bar. Though its techno that gets the crowd going the most usually.

Sorry, I was kinda taking the **** there. Basically Trinity is at the epicentre of a stimulant-induced recreation scene. I was trying to be as coy as possible using 'culture' as a euphemism.

As for techno, it's ****ing awful IMO. Its repetitiveness really gets to me. It's funny how much better the standard, IMO, of dance music is in Dublin, more emphasis on house and electro than the rubbish one tends to here elsewhere. A lot more soul, if that were possible.

sorry i didn't pick you up there...as regards techno its fine once/twice a year when locked.

I was there, spent the whole night in the dance tent, and its all excessively hazy. Suffice it to say details aren't neccessary. In fairness though, the acts were the upper echelon of the Electronic music scene, with German act Booka Shade bringing down the house, greeted with rapturous applause to every song, and tired sinews from excessive dancing. Twas a great laugh... I will be inclined to agree that its an incredibly messy night though, still recovering a bit, as I'm suppose to be hitting the books big style. But if anybody is ever looking for the ultimnate blowout, with a touch of class, it is one of the most unbelievable, surreal and guaranteed crazy nights you can possibly have. Experience of a lifetime. Granted, this years was exceptional due to the deservedly lauded Ents Officers sterling work.

Blowout, can someone explain this word to me, its all I hear in relation to rave/whatever you want to call it, like "its a final blowout" meaning I am going to get "off my head"/"out of my tree" on any concotion of narcotics. Is this right?

If you're serious then your comment is along the same lines as those made about Electric PIcnic when it started (and even later). None of which add up to any real criticism.

eh, I have no idea what its like over there, only a few people that go to it. however i do know what its like here ( in london ) and its the meeting of "like minded individuals", is that better for you? I wasn't winding up its what I saw and beleive. Fortunately, I used to work with some of these lot, luckily no more! I moved away from dublin and that was one of the (many )reasons why I have about as much in common, as you prolly do with a hedgehog ( the *****ly stuff aside )!
