It was Slovenian, and I would say that they had a much higher profile than usual. For example, didn't Bush visit Slovenian during their presidency?

He may well have, their profile wasn't so high that I noticed enough to remember the name of the country. In any case, there's a big difference between 'more prominent than usual' and 'most prominent in Europe'.

But France would be starting as very prominent in Europe anyway, wouldn't it?

It would indeed, which is why it's not a given that the president of the european council will be the most prominent politician in europe. Sarko was already very prominent, possibly the most prominent politician in europe, before he assumed the job. That's the point which was originally made.

In any case, this is all pedantry.

He's an idiot, saying that Ireland must vote again on Lisbon helps nobody. I can see him really ****ing off the No campaigners next week when he visits. If he wants Ireland to ratify some form of the treaty in the future he had better shut up.

He helps out 862k people, and the odd disgruntled converter from the other side. Maybe if he has a look at the ref figures, he may just think again. Even Ben Dunne is onside now.
