Was there one suspended at Euro 2016? Have vague notions of a huge hailstorm - Ukraine v the North maybe? - that caused play to be stopped for a short bit. Or maybe it only looked like it should have been stopped.

Slightly surprised to see it happen for lightning in such a large ground - is it really that dangerous to be on the pitch? Would there not be lightning conductors built into the stadium roof? Remember being at a Europa League game in Andorra that was abandoned when lightning hit the floodlights - but that was an LoI First Division standard ground, so entirely reasonable that everyone on the pitch just ran for the dressing room immediately!

Edit - I was right actually. A great memory for useless crap...

There was hail in Dortmund too of course.

England stink but some of these tackles from the Slovies are outrageous

I like high energy football. A little bit rock and roll. Many finishes instead of waiting for the perfect one.

Did Ronnie Whelan really call England "we" ?

Really enjoyed Austria against Turkey,Turkey feel like the joker in the tournament now and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them get past the Netherlands now either….

All the quarter finals feel very hard to call, they should all be enjoyable games in their own right though ….

Once again, Southgate has a really lovely draw. Not that he can be certain of making the final - the Dutch should be a tough match if that comes to pass - but England have a slightly better chance of making the final than anyone in the other half of the draw.

And I thought it was Slovakia who had the really lovely draw and must be wondering (with regrets aplenty) just how did that game fly by them in a matter of a minute each side of full time.

Sometimes you have to wonder if either side wants to be there or would rather be enjoying summer vacation

France - Spain is quite lively. 2-1 to Spain on the brink of half time. I'd feared France would smother the game, especially after taking the lead.

                          Yes it was Spain’s day.

Meanwhile Argentina and Canada battling in the battle of battles. The Euro winner should play the Copa winner in a final match of matches on a neutral continent, such as Antarctica. Each player on the winning side gets 1.6 million pounds.

England the best team over-all ~ ~ But, that penalty was Not a penalty that you would expect to get 99% of the time.

Is it still the case that video assistants are supposed to consider whether the referee has made a 'clear and obvious error'? Because that's a different standard to simply considering 'Was it a penalty/red card?'

Whether it should have been a penalty or not is up for debate, but I think it's amazing to suggest it was a clear and obvious error not to give one.

                                In one.

It was interesting listening to Christina Enkelman on ITV at the time. She's eminently qualified to comment on such matters (and has got it spot-on in every game so far btw) and she was completely nonplussed by the VAR decision.
