Mick McCarthy - Ireland release clause

Mick McCarthy confirmed that he had an 'Ireland release clause' which would have allowed him to take over from Trap without the need for the FAI to pay Ipswich compensation but that expired in summer.

How many manager across the water would have an Ireland release clause? There is an underground movement in Ireland who would like to see Mick return as manager. Are the FAI wrong to overlook him? Is Mick under-appreciated in this country? I think it's impressive that he had an Irish clause in his contract.

With O'Neill being available, I'd have to say now is not the time. A number of managers have tried to turn Ipswich's fortunes around. Roy Keane who led Sunderland to promotion failed. Paul Jewell, linked with Ireland when Trap took over, who led Bradford and Wigan to promotion failed at Ipswich. It'll be interesting to see how Mick gets on over the next few years with Ipswich.

Noticed O'Neil was very long odds on to get the job.
He is 10-1 on with a couple, Mick is from is 6-1

MON was 10/1 a few weeks ago, now he's 1/10.
