Well fair play to the young girl for designing it and all. But other than it starting with an "F" I don't see any connection. Considering your entire crest is a giant bird, I really expected that a mascot of an avian nature would have been as wide as you cast your net. What
A girl of about 12 designed the mascot last year for a competition run in the local schools. She named him Fingal Freddie. Since when does the mascot have to have a direct connection with the club. Just have a look at other mascots for clubs around the world and tell me they all have have a connection with their club. Do me a favour mate, take you anger and negativity elsewhere.
I believe that Bray Wanderers (The Seagulls) Have "Sammy the Seagull" which is obviously connected; off the top of my head West Ham have a giant Hammer, Millwall have a lion, Hull a Tiger, Man Utd "Eric the Red Devil" et cetera et cetera et cetera
As it happens my class have contacted all the Dublin "commuter-belt" clubs (as part of a LOI drive/project) via email and Fingal got back to us (along with Bohs and Bray) and mentioned this initiative. So, again; a grudging fair play.Comment

Its actually Rocky the seagull - a giant gull who beat Drogs mascot (some kind of deformed lion) in penalties at half time during the cup semi in 05. Decent penalties too it must be said. In fact the general consensus on the terrace was that Rocky could feel aggrieved not to have been picked ahead of Tarzan O'Brien up front.Comment

In fairness - most mascots do actually have some sort of connection to their club though :What

'Billy Blue' at Linfield.
'R mucker' (the candystriped tiger) at City.
H'angus the monkey at Hartlepool
The Owl at Sheffield Wednesday.
The fox at Leicester City.
The Seagull at Bray
You get the idea without me having to go on.....Comment

A 12-year-old girl came up with the name right? I'd imagine there was nothing more complicated involved than choosing an animal that began with an 'F'.
So bloody what if one mascot is the same animal as on the crest while another mascot isn't? Who honestly gives a f**k if there is any link between the club and the mascot?
Well dont to Fingal for going ahead with the creation of a young girl, and well done on the idea for junior supporters.Comment

. The Town have had various Longford Lions as mascots, don't think we ever named them properly. One of them won a penalty shootout against Bray's seagull years ago much to the latter's displeasure. Marty The Monkey made an appearance a few times last year too

Negativity and Begrudging Attitudes
Unfortunately this thread has got polluted (like so many others) with negativity and begrudging attitudes - hardly informative or entertaining!
It seems that enduring juvenile sniping posts are the price that has to paid to for the real gems on this site
Well done Fingal on your efforts (and also to Bohemians, Shelbourne and any others who are putting in this effort) Congrats Pats on your 80c kids tickets promotion.Comment
