Gary Dicker moves to Stockport County

Says so in the Irish Times. For a "small free". Good luck and thanks for the effort at UCD, Gary. Hopefully he'll work his way up to make a name for himself in England.

I'd say the connection is Sockport Manager Jim Gannon, former boss of Dundalk. The lower Gary goes the greater the chance of first team football. He's used to playing first team football from UCD so I doubt he'd be content to plug away in someone's reserves again after Birmingham.

That's true but all the way down to League 2? Seeing as he was a reserve player for one of the top teams in the Chammpionship you would expect him to be good enough get a midtable Championship team, let alone a League One team.

Didn't matter how well he did with the reserves at Birmingham, ultimately they didn't sign him. Stockport on the other had are rumoured to have boosted out coffers by around 30,000 Euro, which is mickey mouse money, but given we could lose him for nothing at the end of the season, cause of his age, I suppose we have to take it.

No we wouldn't, we'd still be due a fee. Remember Alan Cawley. We sold Dicker because he wanted out- simple as that.

€30k is more than we got for Alan Cawley and without the hassle. For a club of our size it's not to be sniffed at. He cost us nothing and he gave us great sevice for several years.

The fee was £40,000 (almost €60,000).

                  Not what I heard.

But if true, it's our record transfer (although Joe Hanrahan would still win in real terms).

Presume Quigley would fetch E100k on that basis.

Interview here from the link that dmanetc posted.

Says he could have signed for Birmingham for next year, but he wanted first team football instead.

There's a thread on some Stockport forum (can't find it now) saying how it is a huge step up for Dicker and that the transfer fee was steep. Also Quigley is wanted by Stockport.

                          Yeah, that's the one.

This one mentions the interest in Quigley.

The fee is 40,000 Sterling, we got that in 1985 for Joe Hanrahan from United so that's a rubbish fee. We also got 30,000 sterling from Crystal Palace for Ken O'Doherty and it was a lot better in terms of actual value 22 years ago than it would be today.

Yesterday's Herald said Stockport completed the move for €60,000.
