UCD plan to establish academy on campus

I've only got vague info on this but there's an article in the Star on Sunday entitled 'League Learning Valuable Lesson' with a sub heading 'Third level opportunities keeping home grown players going abroad'. It begins by going on about Bohs connection with DCU and after a few paragraphs says:

The Gypsies aren't the only club to have gone down this route and UCD of course have set the precedent in this regard. The five year plan they are currently implementing is centred on an academy being established on campus and after Pete Mahon turned down the opportunity to manage Shelbourne, he will be an integral part of that.
It sounds promising but that's all it says. Obviously this is the stuff Sherro or Shakespeare (can't remember which) was going on about in the media after we kept Mahon,

It amuses me no end to see the Bohs/DCU hook up as being haled as somehow new and innovative. UCD had Scholarships as far back as 1979, and besides Bohs have had some kind of link with Blanchardstown IT, in recent years too.

In fairness it says "UCD of course have set the precedent in this regard".

I was referring to a previous article on the Bohs/DCU hook up. Have any more details emerged on this academy?

Yeah, that was being rumoured around the time he decided not to go to Shels. It'll be interesting to see how it works. If it gets us more and better scholarship players, it can only be to our advantage.

It's a fcuking excellent idea, something that all clubs should be looking at doing, but i suppose UCD are in the best position to do it so best of luck with it
