If the pitch was a yard shorter on each side the box would have been the sideline!

Owenstown
What's being erected there is a permanent fence to replace the temporary one put up during the week. They wouldn't be putting that fence up for a small job.
I've never seen a planning notice for the site but the permission could be up to five years old.
It looks like the amount of green space on campus could halve over the next year or so, which would be a shame.Comment

True. I always enjoyed the drive through all the green space coming through the Owenstown gate.Originally posted by Student Mullet

Exactly where are the other soccer pitches besides Owenstown and the one beside Belfield Park? How many remain?Comment

When I was playing Superleague a few years back, there were the two Owenstown pitches, the Restaurant pitch (next to Owenstown), the Castle pitch (beside that again, next to the GAA pitch by Roebuck) and four Roebuck pitches (all by the Sports Centre) and then one opposite Glenomena which you pass by on the way out to Belfield, which is only used occasionally (it's the one with all the sand and hole at the moment.) The Foster's Avenue pitch (where the reserves used to play) is to be lost as well.Comment

pineapple stuOriginally posted by pineapple stuI see out behind the Cascarino Stand is all dug up as well...
Fosters Avenue has been scheduled for re-widening for several years now. It has become part of a major cross south city/county artery route linking the N11 with the M50 . I would surmise that the area behind the Cascarino Stand is being cleared with this in mind. Besides there was only a stagnant pond in that location before which is no loss .

It has always been a Really Krapp pitch AberdonianOriginally posted by Aberdonian StuI know of only one team that likes it, my old gang Real Krapp and that's just because they've a good record on it. Most the lads I've spoken too complain about the surface and that it's too short as well.

No the balls that ended up in there used to be fished out. They even had a net on the end of a pole for the gig... as far the apartments at the opposite end of the ground well......Originally posted by Poor StudentWhich probably contains about 100 footballs stuck over the bar from over the years.
