Which is significantly lower than the last season average . Although as pineapple stu pointed out the attendance V Cork City at home was higher than the corresponding fixture last season. Here's hoping the Saturday afternoon experiment pans out

Average home attendances 2006 (so far) 563.33
Still below last season's average home attendance by approx 100

CTID, you know well that our average attendance is lifted by Bohs, Shels, Pat's and Rovers. We played Pat's on Paddy's Day to an unusually small crowd and haven't played Bohs or Shels. Of course average attendances will be down. They're going to be down this season. I am 100% certain. That Pat's game alone is going to dent it and you also have Rovers replaced with Dublin City and if Bohs continue their woeful form they won't come either. The overall figure for UCD is not important as it's heavily at the whim of away fans. We should just concentrate on the home support and how it is increasing.

What's more relevant is the fact that the crowds for Cork and Bray - the two games not affected by Bank Holidays - were both up 10% on last season.

Yes but the St.Pat,s crowd was hugely disappointing Bank Holiday or no Bank Holiday

I know that, but it was Paddy's Day. Dundalk got 250 for their game the same day. It was a one-off crowd which shouldn't be allowed to skew the statistics.

Dundalk fans are a fickle bunch. I was once at a Leinster Senior Cup tie there between UCD and them in Oriel and we brought a larger travelling support ( I think it was 60) than their home support. And they only charged half price admission. We won that one 3-2 for the record.

Do you mean, we should ignore it like the 105 we got on August Bank Holiday weekend for the Cobh game in 2004?

Essentially what you are saying is, no matter how well the team does this season, there isn't a snowballs chance in hell of us even matching last season's average? That is depressing

CTID, you've been around Belfield Park over two decades, you tell me! If we could top the table handing out 4-1 wallopings every week we might begin to arouse curiosity. On a good day Bohs could bring the attendance up to 1,200. In a season like this it could be more like 800. The Pat's game should have been 800-1000 but it was only around 500. Rovers would also bring it up to 1,000 or so, but the Dub City game will probably bring 200 maximum. As they say in the US, you work out the Math!

You've actually just proved my point!! Yes, we should ignore the 148 (I believe) against Cobh as it was a Bank Holiday. The rest of the attendances that season showed it was quite clearly a freak figure. From doing the attendances thread the last three seasons, I can tell you Bank Holidays are bad.

Well in 1984-85 season around Christmas we were second in the League behind Shamrock Rovers and we only attracted 300 to a home game.Yes it was the second last shopping weekend , yes it was a Sunday afternoon 2:15 kick off, but again it was a Dublin Derby ( St. Pat¨s again as it happens).
Those kind of attendances were one of the reasons for the installation of floodlights in 1991 so we could be a) more flexible as to kick-off times and b) more flexible as to kick-off days.

I would hope and pray that 20 plus years on given our increased student population (20,000 now as opposed to 11,000 then) and our increased involvement with the local area that we would do better than 300 in a few weeks time should we reach those dizzy heights again!
