I am not saying Keane is God,
I don't believe he should be on the team anymore as no matter whether McM was right or wrong Keane shouldn't have screamed abuse at him Just as McM should of been sacked
I do think he let himself and his team down by blowing his top.
I've never said he's not a spoiled little child wanting it all.
I don't think he mother Therese.
But I do think he was Fired.

Agreed, except for the McCarthy being sacked part (not a few days before the WC anyway). I don't know why we were arguing?

Is the point you're making that he broke his word AND he was a fool?

;)

A Yes Footballers the honest people............. They never cheat never dive never fake injury (Yes Conor I put that in for you), never take bribes never fluff a match never sleep with their team mates wives, yes indeed an honest bunch. Thank god most of them are thick because with a brain and that honesty they'd be running the world . :D

I agree we should agree to disagree but you love for Keane is almost scary.
Dalglish quit his contract at Liverpool did he not? He had even signed his contract and all!!!!!!!!!

Ummm, are you not overlooking the small point that the best player to play in the Premiership did exactly that - Alan Shearer?

Well AS was stupid for ending his International career, and also
stupid if he turned down Man U.
Apart from anything else the best player to play in the Premiership
is/was Roy Keane.

Roy is also misguided by ending his international career, he would be better off missing some club matchs (not that restricting
matches is likely to prolong your career). You only really get
'match fit' by playing matches, not missing them.

I MIGHT HAVE MY FACTS MUDDLED HERE, BUT DID NOT ROY KEANE
PICK UP AN INJURY *AFTER* THE BREAK FOR INTERNATIONAL GAMES?
A QUICK CHECK SHOWS I AM RIGHT.
YOU DONT PROLONG YOUR CAREER BY PLAYING LESS MATCHS -
QUITE THE OPPOSITE. MISSING MATCHS MAKE YOU LESS FIT AND
THEREFORE MORE PRONE TO INJURY.
A CONTARY VIEW PREHAPS, BUT LETS FACE FACTS, MOST FOOTBALLERS AND FOOTBALL MANAGERS ARE IDIOTS, I HOWEVER
AM A GENIUS AND I AM ALWAYS RIGHT.
SO MY MESSAGE TO ROY IS - GET BACK INTO THE INTERNATIONAL SCENE AND PROLONG YOUR DOSH EARNING CAREER, YOUR PHYSICAL HEALTH, AND YOUR MENTAL HEALTH.

If you got fit by missing matches then the fittest players would
be couch potatos who have never played a professional game in their lives (like me, who is fairly unfit (but still a good player))

SO COME ON ROY GET YOUR BOOTS ON FOR THE SWITZERLAND GAME - YOU KNOW IT MAKES SENSE.:p

 Another gem above there.

Keane/Shearer. Both great players and its probably unfair to compare them as they are tottally different, so there is no point in arguing over that. Id have the 2 of them in my team anyway.

Reynolds is scum

Keane was in the "overseas" team of the decade. But when they combined the overseas team and the British team they dropped Keane for Paul Scholes. Hmm.

Most people here support the Republic of Ireland national team (Forums>Ireland>National team) of which Roy Keane is not a part.

I'm still here, I just got bored with a debate that was going absolutly nowhere.

Lads, let it die. I got to page 7 and got bored so just decided to skip on to the end and say that whatever about Roy Keane, Mick McCarthy, Kylie Minogue or whoever you lot are all w@nkers! :D This debate is without any doubt the most entrenched and pointless I've ever seen on foot.ie
For the sake of The Tommy Gorman school for Orphans just let it go!

Oh yes it is!

It's got very boring. Seeing as it will soon be time for auditions for the forthcoming panto season (I was reminded by highlights of Manyoo V the Arse), and in the spirit of making this more interesting, what part would Roy play in the panto. And no, I don't mean Saipan, The Genesis report, Manyoo Shareholder meetings, the Premiership, the future of Scottish Football or anything like that.

For example, Kevin Kilbane is Buttons - nice guy, likeable, a tryer, but he won't end up with the girl. Lee Carsley is grudgingly given the back end of Daisy the Cow.

I'd rate him as the Widow - normally the most memorable player on stage, gets stuck into it, but not necessarily very pretty. I don't fancy hearing him sing either.

Your thoughts please :p

Roy is not taking part in the panto. The costumes are ****e, the backing scenery is all bumpy and uneven, the band is out of tune and the props are all second hand. The stage management and the direction is the most unprofessional ever seen in a theatre. He's going home.......

And this could have been the best panto in the world as well.

Hmmm... Truculent manner, seeing conflict where there's none... Is tricky colour Roy Keane in disguise then?

Can't be arsed reading back over, but Gary Kelly - what a traitor chosing to prolong his club career over the national side......

If you can't see the conflict you must be thicker than Mick.
I was probably a slightly better player than Roy in my time.

From what I read in the Turbine, it's more likely to be an anti-McCarthy thing..... From the piece I read, it seems that it was Kelly that stirred up such an atmosphere that left no room for Keano to return to the dressing room if things could've been sorted with the Muppet...

Fair enough if that's what Kelly feels is right, but surely a straight decision when Kerr took over would've been better rather than create the impression (which I don't necessarily believe) that he wouldn't work with Kerr (considering his close relationship with McCarthy)...

Proof positive that this clown talks nothing but rubbish.

You should probably take a few deep breaths and count to ten before answering this one buddy because I couldn't be bothered having a net cat-fight with some newbie blow-in.

And as Colm would say, irony is wasted on some...

And in some more friendly advice, you don't have to cut and paste my initial post to put it in your response. Just hit the 'quote' option and your reply will open up with my post alreadly attached.

Macy, I know you have made valid points about pre-season training before. The unfortunate thing from Keane's point of view is that (i) he refuses play the sum total of 6 games for his country under a manager with whom he has no axe to grind and (ii) he plays Worthington Cup games and tours the US with his club. Now, at face value, there is a lot of explaining away to be done. 6 games? I don't know the injury that prevents you from playing 6 games but let's you play the Worthington Cup. I don't know the injury that prevents you travelling to a World Cup qualifier (ala Beckham who has travelled to games in which he didn't participate) but permits you to train at the time of the game and subsequently play in a European Champions League game. I think Liam Mackay summed it up neatly in the Examiner that the only medical condition Roy Keane seems to suffer from is an allergy to playing in green jerseys rather than red.
Dragged this up..... Just to point out that Keano is being rested for his 2nd Champions League game in a row.....

I'm a little bit miffed over this 'faking an injury' quote from a few people. Roy Keane was injured/carrying an injury , going into the initial match against Iran . And he didn't exactly set the world alight with his performance in that match either . Therefore it was quite reasonable to expect him not to travel for the return leg .
Whoever made the analogy between Keane and Alan Shearer should be commended (or perhaps knighted) as this is the most sensible argument that has been put forward so far
