some of the natural sleeping pills are really good and get your body into a routine...

or

read a book til you get sleepy

or

skulling a few shots of brandy also works okay.

Some listen to the radio or drink a warm glass of milk

I generally just concentrate on my breathing and I fall asleep soon after

exercise to tire you out (football, running...anything that gets the blood pumping quickly) or reading a book before you turn in should help. You need to get in a routine as well. Try and head to bed at the same time every night if possible.

Yeah I've had a bit of trouble sleeping after that whole "crashing the Oil Tanker" thing.

I mean, just because some no-mark "World Health Environmental Experts" claim it will take the local eco-system 30 years to recover.

Jeesh - people can be so serious.

I am shattered coz cant get a good night's sleep anymore. I wake up thinking about things I want to do work wise and then cant get back to sleep. Grrrrr.

I have tried rescue remedy sleep, lavender on my pillow, reading, hot chocolate, warm baths but my mind just wont switch off. I thought by becoming blonde it might be easier but eh no.

Do you drink coke, coffee or other sugar drinks after 8?

Do you drink alcohol a lot?

How much excerise do you get?

Generally I have one cup of coffee a day and that is usually in the morning or occasionally after I have lunch. I drink diet coke about once, maybe twice a week unless as a mixer with vodka at the weekend. I dont drink during the week and only really if am going out on a saturday nite or one beer after a home match on a friday night.

As for exercise, does running through the house trying to chase imaginary robbers out in the middle of the night count? I usually do one class a week (hip hop dancing up until recently now doing aerobics) but other than that very little.

I tend to stay up later and later until finally it's morning and I get on with the rest of the day. By the end of the day I'm shattered and sleep like a log, and around I go again. :)

i had this for a while after i started drinking 2 cups of green tea a day, i was also getting some other problems too :D That stuff is seriouslly bad for you as far as im concenred. Stopped drinking it and started doing a bit of gaelic training and it did the trick alright. Im not a heavy sleeper generally, so I find myself taking a good while to get to sleep anyway, but for a while just after xmas and stuff i was only getting a couple of hours sleep a night. its really frustrating. id say do an hour of physical activity about 2 hours before you go to bed and it should do the trick.

Sex or masturbation is the key. What person does not fall asleep after an orgasm and sometimes before.

monutdfc
23/07/2008, 11:51 AM
Neil McD is actually correct, for men.
It's an evolutionary thing - men are programmed to fall asleep after orgasm. (I think it is because that way they spend more time with the female and build up a bond, making them more likely to hang around and help raise the children.)
So if your having trouble sleeping just beat one out and hey presto it's zed time.

Yeah must be a man thing coz I find it harder to sleep after any such arousal.

Have a look into yoga, I've been doing it the best few weeks and am seriously knackered for two nights afterwards. Swimming then adds up another two nights of proper sleep and by that stage I'm at the weekend and don't care. Sex as has been mentioned is usually good for sleepless nights, I think for male and females too, women seriously get cranky and restless if they haven't got some right?

I find that I get dozy for anywhere between 5 and 30 minutes afterwards, and then wake up and find myself wide awake. And the sleepiness can affect girls too, although it's less predictable. Depends on how energetic you were I guess. :)

So the solution is don't toss and turn. Just toss and toss?

Tackle any niggling issues you've been avoiding and you'll sleep like you never slept before :)

Yeah I agree on the yoga. SO basically have tantric sex and you will sleep like a baby.

Waking up every 2 hours in your own urine and excrement and vomit.

I had been doing a class similar to yoga (flex and tone) but didnt sleep much better after it. Must dig out some meditation cds and give them a spin.

Sex is great but I am just a greedy 'ho who doesnt want it to end! :D

Women.

There's a chemical released when guys orgasm. The ladies are not blessed with this chemical.

Interestingly, far more of it is released after sex with a person than after killing kittens - about four times as much, I think.

I tried my hardest last nite to get a good sleep. I tried to remove all stress, got a can of cider out of the fridge, went to bed and watched tv (I often find myself falling asleep in sitting room in front of tv and then when get up and get ready for bed am wide awake again) and was all snuggled down and dozing off when a "friend" text me. That was fine, text him for a while and fell asleep easily enough. Then another "friend" text me at almost half 12 and woke me. God I hate my friends.

Had another broken night's sleep then. Grrrrr

I read yesterday that brazil nuts and almonds can help as often people who cant sleep are lacking in Calcium and cant remember what other thing is coz am too tired.

That would depend on whether or not you understood the euphamism. If you took it literally, it would be a very weird sentence.

That's true, it must be the body being full of adrenaline after playing football or something. I play at 7 twice a week and it's not as bad, but also play at 9 one night and it's 3am before I ever get to nod off.
Doesn't work the same after 'the bould thing' though, so either I'm not putting the same effort in or a pathetic bout of blubbering gratitude is the real key to making you sleepy. :D

Whoever said above about dealing with niggling issues was on to something though. You don't even have to resolve them there and then, just deciding on a plan and a timeframe to deal with them is enough to make me sleep easier anyway.
Or watching 5 minutes of Sex and the City, it's on at the right time on Paramount (all night every f***ing night  ) too.

I figured out the root cause to my lack of sleep is in fact my ex girlfriend, since we broke up, and indeed the previous time we broke up, I havent been able to sleep soundly.

Suffice to say we're getting back together :p
