Why are we happy with signing a player who stuck his fingers up at us 14 months ago?

Will he still say the same about City fans?

As for Derek's return I do see himself and Murray playing together especially when City are short in midfield. I don't think Alan will be dropped but if the time came he would play in midfield rather than anyone else.

Seriously Gary, whatever any of us think of him as a person, as a player he is a good addition to the squad. He had a great season at Bohs last year.

Think Derek was in the CL squad but at that stage had talked to Kenny and decided he wasn't playing for the club.
We all know Derek's strength and weaknesses but all we can do is wait to see where he will play, and how he will get on with City this time round.

He was class in his first spell with us, won us the cup if you care to cast your minds back. I expect him to be a first choice player within a few weeks.

how do you know that? just because he wasn't part of the managments plans doesn't mean he wasn't trying.

i never saw him give anyone the finger, if you're talking about his contract, he negotiated quietly and did a lot less guffing in the papers than ollie did, slagging fans off before he left. he got a better offer, he was straight with the club, they didn't improve their offer, he left.

he wouldn't have signed if he felt the set up hadn't changed since he left, all the players seem to be happier and more motivated now, i see no reason why derek should be different

Well if any of you have seen him play THIS season, you will see that he is not a patch on the player he was. Either that, and i reckon i am right here, is that the standard of the league has improved, leaving little nobodies like derek behind. Ive seen him play twice in the flesh this season and in both games was at fault for goals. i mean, remember Georges goal against Bohs this season, Derek missed the header, and then rather than track back, walked in the other direction. He did the same a few days later against Shams, but wasnt punished. Ive also seen him many times on eL weekly, and he is not a good player, if he was, he would be in the Bohs team.

As Colm pointed out a while ago, he said he wasnt in the CL squad, well then, why was he not bothered about it? A REAL pro would be very peed off, a pro would work his knackers off to make sure he wasnt ommitted again, not go to some late night boozer, to talk rubbish to drunken muppets like ourselves about how great he is.

I reckon he is coming here to walk into the team. If thats the case, well ill be very surprised. He is not good enough anymore. Maybe he was 5 yrs ago, but times are a changing for this league.

as i already said i think its a waste of money that could be better spent on one of the young players or on keeping georgie. garys points are all valid and I agree with them, because i've heard it from the horses mouth, but as colm said dolan won't stand for it so hopefully its a thing of the past and now derek is here hopefully he'll do well.

I think Caughlan will be a good signing for the team. Hes experienced now at the top level and will pass his experience onto the younger players like Bennett and Hoggie. I thought he did excellent last season and was admittidely poor in the 3-2 game but that was just one game.

When he got into the Bohs team last year for a good spell, he played well. This season he didn't manage that. He'll need a few matches to sort himself out.

I think this is very true, and eanna's point that there are better places for our money is correct. i was surprised to read that we've signed him as a full time pro until the end of the season when negotiations will continue, i assumed he was being brought in part time and as cover. but let's not attack him before he pulls the shirt on again. i've got faith enough in dolan to wait and see.

If he continues to play the way he did last night when Bennett misses his matches, it could be very hard for him to get back into the team in the centre-half position.
Whatever about the three of them and who deserves to play, now at least there is cover and competition.
It'll be up to the three of them to raise their game.

i couldnt care less what happend in the past coz it is history. he didnt touch a ball in six weeks and thrown into that situation as he was last nite he showed his class. he wound d fans up wen he came on he showed passion as did all the players in a display which took some charachter.we had no manager on the sideline the ref tried to screw us ten men. it takes guts and character to pull a display like dat out of the fire city did it last nite and lets hope this is the start of a nice run

Well Derek did very well on Firday night, no one could complain about his performance. He looked a bit rusty, but that will be sorted with a few games. I reckon he will be playing from the start against Drogs and Pats.
BTW, I hope this is not the end of Benno at the club, as I really like Alan and have great respect and admiration for him.

yeah, i think murray and Bennett will still be Dolan's starting centre defence, it's up to derek to force himself in there. he's come in for a bit of critiscism from some quarters recently but he'd still be one of the first names i'd put on a team sheet.
