Hope it only had film in it to cover the 1st half, from our point of view. Shocking 2nd half display.

I film every Athlone Town game and it would be of broadcast quality (mpeg 2) and I have sent stuff to TV3 and the company involved in the end of year awards before. The home games would be excellent as it is filmed from the press area without obstructions in the way.

The quality MAY be broadcast standard, depending on the camera, hard to tell from YouTube, but to be brutally honest the camera work is just not good enough. Sorry

BBC MOTD don't show the championship!
Sky sports Revista La liga don't show Div 2 over there.
Why should mns show First DIvision rubbish from Ireland.

ITV show highlights of the Championship, Sky do a programme called the Big Weekend which covers every game from the Championship, League 1 and League 2.
Agreed, I wouldn't want to watch extended highlights of a Division 1 match I didn't have an involvement in, but how long would it take to show the goal action from just 5 games a week that we have

One of the key reasons ELW was ****e was because of the poor quality of the camera work done in-house by the clubs. I seriously doubt RTÉ would want that to happen to MNS.

The amount of people interested in the 1st Division doesn't justify the extra expense of sending 5 cameras every week.

Agreed. That said it wouldn't be excessive to have a quick bit of conversation about how things are shaping up in the division and any significant news there.

exactly its one thing not bringing the camera and crew but to exclude it totally is tripe from rte

There is no way they should show the first division in TV. It's painful to watch, we want to attract supporters not turn them away.

Yes just a small one on the table in front of me. In the process of getting a panasonic broadcast quality camera with a wide angled lenses instead of the narrow focus hi definition camcorder i use at the moment

With a name like that I take it you do camera work for a living and can notice that.

Will get better with time when i get a better camera with a wider focus. At the moment trying to concentrate on too many things during a match as as well as being media and promotions officer I am looking after match sponsors, things for half time along with a number of other things due to lack of volunteers at the moment but that is all being addressed with the setting up of an independent trust

The filming of matches was never intended for TV usage. It was only ever for a website and for the team manager.

Look - the best way I can equate this is that no-one wants to watch the donkey derby when you've got the Grand National on down the road...

Resources as they stand don't permit the covering of "First Division" soccer without compromising the integrity of the standard of Premier Division game coverage on MNS.

I'd rather sit through 10 minutes of analysis and highlights of Derry vs. St Pats than get 5 minutes of that and 5 minutes devoted to Kildare County vs Athlone Town.

At a push - they should maybe show some highlights from a game towards the end of the season if it's between the top 2 or has some bearing on the title (eg. The game when promotion is secured)

The league really needs people like you. Actually did you work on TV3s 'eircom league weekly'? sounds like their mission statement........

I think that a 2 or 3 minute conversation at the end of the prgramme about the first division is hardly going to hurt anybody possibly backed up with 20 seconds of the highlights from what is deemed to be the match of the week.

Nor will it offend the poor fragile souls of the EPL/SPL barstoolers, or the obviously huge egos of the premier league elite in this country :p:p:p

I know that during the season Damien Richardson, Roddy et al are regular visitors to Station Road, along with a number of premier league players. So, their level of knowledge would certainly be sufficient to have a reasoned chat.

Hey - as a supporter of the only senior club in this country enjoying some 118 years of never being relegated from the League's top division (I would say only club not to have been relegated by then I'd have the Derry and Corkie boys bleating their little hearts out ;)) at least let me have this grandeur-inducing standpoint :D

(aka - not being serious - I was actually watching some racing at the time I posted that initial view...)

Hi Lads.

I'm afraid I don't agree with all the replies to this post, which is a topic I am delighted has been highlighted. I am not slamming anyone, in fact I love M.N.S. I think it's promoting the Premier Division very well, with alot of very interesting, fun, behind the scenes stuff. But I do think that if the F.A.I. are serious about promoting the eircom League of Ireland they will have to hold a meeting with R.T.E. about the possible screening of First Division highlights. It's only fair.

Totally agree with you Dapman 1.

It's only right. I mean even eircom League Weekly did one First Division
game a week.
