View Full Version : €150,000 bid for O'Flynn

To be fair i cant understand how seemingly intelligent people can think that moving to scot div1 once is a step backwards. The standard in the EL is ****. We play **** football week in week out. Whats the point in John O'Flynn staying with city?
He could score 50 goals for us next season and at the end of the day might get a move to a reasonable club. If he does well for a club like Falkirk theres a great chance of him moving to a decent team.
I remember a similar thread not so long ago saying that city were about on a par with division 1 in england. For christ sake. If we were in div 3 we MIGHT survive but we'd NEVER make it out of the conference in my opinion. Why is it that a pre-season carlisle team can come over and beat pats 2-1 (when ive seen loads of comments on here like "why would anyone move to carlisle?") when a full strength city side cant beat pats reserves? Open ye're eyes for **** sake, ye ****ing children.
Carlisle’s first team beat the Pats 3rd team (the reserves had played the day before) 2-1 Only 4 players that played that day were part of the team that beat Cork in the Lc Semi Final. Lets get things in priority. Some Leinster Senior League teams beat Carlisle, does that mean that the LSL is a higher standard than the English 3rd division?

Falkirk beat Big Spending Wigan from the English 1st on Sunday.
I wouldn't read too much into pre-season games.

like i said, stuart taylor was playing for drogheda last season and was one of their best players !!! he came to us in january and took 2 months to get into the team !!! while he did well, he had a hard fight for his place!!
is the eircom league not just semi-pro?? surely o'flynn would benefit from full time football at a club that regularly attracts many english (and scottish) scouts ?!?
our 12,500 seater stadium will be finished by march next year and our purpose built training facilities will be finished by x-mas, despite what you might think, we are not some 2 bit shambles of a club !!
i also feel that playing alongside players of the calibre of Russell Latapy will benefit him on his way to the Premiership- if he is as good as you make him out to be!?

drogheda are one of the poorest prem div clubs and miles off the likes of cork city/bohs/shels/rovers, both in terms of wages i'd imagine and also facilities and crowds.. imo drogs are a div 1 / club standard
a yoyo team thats goes between the 2 divisions every few years

the EL at the higher levels.. Shels / bohs / rovers / cork city is pro further down at the lower levels .. ucd, drogs longford its part-time
John O'Flynn is a full time pro, and i think his sights are a good deal higher then lowly falkirk
lets make a comparison. crowe who i dont rate as highly as o'flynn was recently rummoured to be linked to a 1.25million move to Chelsea.
ofllynn to falkirk... while an ambitious bid from falkirk for such a quality player.. it aint really realistic is it. stick to buying drog players on the cheap is more your league i'd say :D
All these arguments about coefficients or size of crowds or whatever are irrelevant!
Falkirk would not be a step up for O'Flynn!
€150k is not enough for O'Flynn who is an irish international 2 goals in 3 games!
I do no think O'Flynn will be attracted to Falkirk cos one of their players got a move to mighty Bristol. When is the last time a Falkirk player moved to a big/bigger club?
O'Flynn will only move to a big club or a club which offers him a good chance of moving to a big club!
btw O'Flynn has at least another 18 months on his contract & will get better offers if he continues his current form.

it's not so much an anti-falkirk thing with me, i don't have anything against them. i think a move to any scottish first division side would be of little use to flynn and city would require more money to consider selling.
his career has definitely been progressing at city, he's full time professional and an U21 international. there's no reason why that shouldn't continue to be the case.
IN the Echo:
Flynny: "I have heard nothing whatsoever about it"
"I have an open mind on a move back to England. I understand that reps from Blackburn and Aberdeen have seen me play but there's been no concrete offers at all"

to be honest I couldn't give a flying **** about falkirk. The only thing i know about falkirk is its a city in scotland. thats it. on that basis (i.e. that I have heard no more about them) I conclude they are not good enough for the lord our god o'flynn. IMO he should be looking no lower than the top 4 teams in the SPL, thats if he is mad enough to consider the footballing recession that is scotland right now. And as for the money, he's worth at least 3 times that.
The bottom line is he's worth much more, he's still young and has loads to offer. Junior culbs in Ireland have got double that amount from the national lottery! Would Falkirk sell their top striker for that little money?
I cant believe that this thread is so long, the fact that so many people are taking this bid seriously is a bit sad imo.
This bit should be treated as a joke, it is laughable to think that Flynny would move to a lowly club like Falkirk.
If Flynny is ambitious, and I think he is, then he will stay at City.

If Blackburn Rovers trumped up with a bid then I think it would be a great move for him.
They're from a town that's smaller than Cork but have enough ambition to compete with the "Big Boys".

the eircom league is on par with the spl(excluding celtic, rangers, hearts)
in my opinion 150,000 is a joke of an offer and offers like that is unacceptable in the eircom league today as irish teams have been robbed of players for peanuts in the past(roy keane,o'brien etc)
falkirk were unlucky not to get promotion as the sfa are constantly thinking of the big two.
john'o flynn going to falkirk would be a stupid move as he would get a better move if he stayed(like bohs).
i would rather play in cork in front of big crowds then falkirk.
foureyes,it's pat dolans fault for the **** football cork play.so don't critize the rest of the league.
the same thing happened with bobby ryan last year, aberdeen wanted to take him on trial,TRIAL-ABERDEEN **** off, talk about insulting a player and a team.

I don't think will be signing O'Flynn, we've bought Jason "Pineapple on his head" Lee  from Peterbrough and Brent Rahim a Trinidad and Tobago international who played with West Ham last season.
Cheers Lads all the best!
