This is critical season for Rovers...we have to be ambitious enough to want to win against UCD especially as we were not far off in the matches aginst Bohs, Drogs and even Pats.Lets keep behind the team.

UCD away is always going to be tough, and never a pretty game to watch, so i wouldn't get too dis-heartened just yet, i would though if we don't get 3 points next week, it was a shocking performance last night but it was a poor night all round, hard for the players to get motivated for the game id say, which i know is no excuse.

That was absolutely terrible,no heart shown except for the couple of players mentioned earlier. We didn't even create chances. I really hope we can pick ourselves up in time for cobh next week otherwise we are in bother. I think we need a target man up front.

We didn't even create chances

Not strictly true. Anto really should have done better with his chance in the first half - considering he was Pat's third-highest scorer last season, he should've done better than just hitting the target. Moore's chip near the end of the 2nd half was quite audacious too!

Apart from that it was a dire game, as everyone has already said. The exposed nature of the ground doesn't help matters at all, but still. Raf is really coming along on the left wing, and Almeida looks stronger every game. Can't see why Raf was subbed, did Doherty even touch the ball?

same aul ****e at UCD, there always a gritty and tough team to beat...wouldnt hit panic button just yet though.

Almeida and O'Grady were the only ones who half excelled, Seamie and Raf did well too. think its time to drop Faz and Murphy, dont seem to have any interest at all. And i know im not the first to say this but, does Murphy look unfit?

As for Judge...needs a kick in the hole

Red4Eva
29/03/2008, 11:37 AM
did any1 else think seamie looked awfully tired or sick? defensively i thought we were ok but apart from raf no forward player did anything. i know cash only played 25 mins but that's the worst i've ever seen him play. anto always seems to fade in 2nd half of games so he mustn't be fit

UCD is a soul destroying hole. Second time i've been to see us play them there, and 2 of the worst matches of football i've ever seen in my life.

We were very poor last night, all over. However where we are really struggling, is the fact we have no target man! 2 goals in 4 league games, none of which have been scored by a striker. Our forwards are too similar.

And lads, as bad and all as we were last night, what exactly did booing achieve? 4 games in and some of our fans were booing? Have we turned into Newcastle fans overnight?

yeah that was stupid alright. Ok they hardly deserve a huge cheer after that performance but there is no point in booing your team off,its pointless.

Very poor game last night. Didnt create a whole lot at any point. when we stepped it up we got through them but that wasnt often at all. Could have gone either way. Pity Rafs effort didnt find the net - would have been some goal !

We were very loose at lot of the time. We have serious problems in centre midfield - O'Grady doing all the work chasing all night and left very exposed.

Our home games are of key importance. I think we can give anybody a game at home. We've played St Pats, Drogs and Bohs in our opening 4 games. Very tough for any team. Looking forward to next Saturday - need a performance from the lads and the vital 3 points against Cobh to get us up and running.

Another point and a clean sheet, oh ffs:rolleyes:. Were you at the game? Terrible performance against a shocking team, that's why we're entitled to be disappointed now. What boo'ing achieved is that the players now know that another performance like that is not acceptable. Too many times they are clapped off after a shocking performance, shouldn't be happening. I'm all for Rovers til we die attitude but the players[apart from Almeida, O'Grady and Raf] need to put in some effort too.

Belfield is a joke too, never in my life have I seen a steward asking fans to sit down...what's worse was UCD fans actually got a chant going while sitting, quite comical.

It is from this year apparently. Though I didn't see it at all, and the Sligo fans at the far left seemed able to ignore it (correctly, IMO) for the entire match.

I dont think we should have booed them, stoneing them would have been a beter option. They were a ****ing joke, drawing to a poor team is one thing but showing no effort, pulling out of tackles etc. is totally different. We pay big money to travel around Ireland and stand in the rain and cold for them to go out and play like they did,a joke

it was the worst display by any team that ive ever seen, With the exception
of 3 or 4 players Some of our team had no interest in being there, reminds me of the times with mr o brien now of galway. It is now time for paul cooke and
his team to show that they wish to earn their pay.

Lads, yer losing the run of yourselves me thinks. Before you become judge and jury I think ye should look at both sides. UCD are not as bad as people make them out to be. Rovers have always found it very difficult to get a result when we play them. They played the spoiling game and played it damn well I must add. You have to give them some credit. No one expects the opposition to lay down and die so why all of a sudden should we expect to go to UCD and expect to come away with a victory? Our lads haven't as yet performed to the level this season that we should expect them to win comfortably at any venue. I've witnessed all games so far and although I think we have a decent side I also feel we will struggle and have to be honest I expected a game like the one we got at the bowl. UCD always have a hard working side and they competed very well all over the park. If Rovers thought they would be allowed to get the ball down and play 'pretty' football and the opposition would sit back and admire them then they were certainly surprised but I don't expect that was the case. On the face of it last night was a point earned and any point picked up on the road is a good one. The 'supporters' that booed the lads were exercising their rights but in my opinion they adopted the wrong option. I spoke with a couple of the players today and they were every bit as gutted as those that displayed their disgust. We travelled to the bowl with hope in our hearts but we left disappointed. Sometimes it's not good to display our true feelings. We'll be there again to support the lads when they pull on the bit o red so I think we should be as one and stay loyal. We have Cobh up next and after their great draw with Cork tonight now they won't be a push over either. It's a tough league we find ourselves in and it's going to be a hard struggle to survive. We want to survive to we have to try to get behind the players during the hard times as well as the good. I feel there will be a lot of bad nights but let's not lose faith.

I'm not quite sure how we played the spoiling game, to be honest, unless you mean we defended well. Sligo were the ones putting in a couple of strong challenges and picking up the bookings, which is usually what "spoiling tactics" are about. (Though obviously I'm not saying youz were employing them either).

It's a shame that, while most of your post is reasoned, you got lazy with this comment (and you're not the first to make it on this thread), and just pandered to a largely groundless UCD stereotype.

Have to agree with clubman! We have played bohs, pats and drogs in our opening games! We cant excactly have expected to take points from thse sides and imo anything we got from them would have been a bonus! Maybe we should beat ucd i dont know, but they have been difficult for us to play against especially away, some people are being too hard on the rovers players! I'm sure we will come good.. :)

Not the first time I have been accused of being lazy.
I suppose with mature reflection I could have used a different term to that of 'spoiling game'. Believe me I ment absolutely no ill will towards UCD in fact I tried to give them the credit I felt they deserved for the game. I thought both sides cancelled each other out on the night and the result was a fair one.

Incidentally, I asked about this on Friday and apparently the reason you were moved is because youz were standing up in front of the press box. The club don't really care if you stand, but the press asked for you to be moved, so they just put you down the far end of the stand and let you continue standing. Seems fair enough to me.
