Veron was a world class proven footballer, he just didnt settle in England, Forlan has proved what a good finisher he is in Spain over the last few years, and he'll always go down as Utd legend for his 2 goals in Anfield.:p The other 2 I agree with.

On another thread they are discussing the French squad and who might be left out. They have incredible options at the moment, but my 11 would be :
1
Coupet
2 3
Sagna Clichy
4 5
Thuram Gallas
6
Viera
7 11
Ribery Nasri
8
Benzema
9 10
Anelka Henry

Mexes?? Not likely. Abidal will start alright, but the 11 I named would be something to watch. Can't see them being so attacking though. Pity. Nobody really just goes for it in football these days. Too defensive.

From Uefa.com.
Germany's Bernd Schneider will definitely miss Germany's UEFA EURO 2008™ campaign after undergoing surgery on a herniated disc in his back last week.
Absence confirmed
The Bayer 04 Leverkusen midfielder was originally rated as doubtful for the tournament after the operation in Hanover on 25 April. Today, however, Germany coach Joachim Löw received final confirmation of the 34-year-old's unavailability, when he was informed that Schneider has been told not to resume training for the foreseeable future.

Luka Modrić has earned comparisons with Johan Cruyff
The reasons why Tottenham Hotspur FC were in such a hurry to spend €21m on Croatia midfielder Luka Modrić will become clear at UEFA EURO 2008™. That is the message from Modrić's national-team coach Slaven Bilić who has no doubts about the quality of the 22-year-old from NK Dinamo Zagreb.
Cruyff comparison
Modrić and company also helped to eliminate England from the EURO, so Tottenham Hotspur fans will not be completely incredulous of the comparisons their recruit has earned with both Lionel Messi and Johan Cruyff. Increasingly, he has been likened to Cruyff, whom he resembles both in frame – being of slim build – and in speed, agility and creativity, as master of the pinpoint pass. And if Modrić could become NK Zrinjski's star player in the Bosnia-Herzegovnian top flight as an 18-year-old loanee in 2003/04, Bilić will be expecting a similar impact from his protégé in north London and beyond.
High praise for new Spurs recruit.

no one seems to be mentioning the russians could be dark horses, great coach and some gifted players that will shine on the big stage. just look at zenit st petersburg, personally though cant see beyond germany
Sticky group for the Russians mate. Spain Sweden and Euro Champs Greece. I don't see them getting out of that group to be honest. Spain and Greece for me there.

Spain named a very peculiar squad today. There are 5 uncapped players (Palop, Fernando Navarro, Ruben De la Red, Santi Cazorla and Sergio Garcia), and no room was found for the likes of Joaquin, Guti, Raul etc.
Obviously, some of these players have been out of the reckoning for a while, but it still looks like an unnecessarily weak selection from Aragones.
If Spain picked the right squad, and got a couple of breaks, it would take a pretty good team to beat them ...

Ruben De La Red and Sergio Garcia are meant to be excellent talents. However, it's odd that they picked so many inexperienced players and didn't include Bojan.
The Russians have got a decent side from what I've heard, but I read in World Soccer that they they feel the lack of a quality defensive midfielder could cost them. One of their best players (probably their best) Arshavin is suspended for the first two games as well. They play Sweden in the final group game.
I think France could do well, provided they play the right players. I don't really like Domenech as a coach at all, but they have some fantastic players and this could put them in contention. However, they seem to be sticking with the old guard which may cost them IMO.

Ruben De La Red and Sergio Garcia are meant to be excellent talents
Well, De la Red was farmed out by Real Madrid to Getafe this season, on the basis that he wouldn't be able to dislodge midfielders like Guti, who Aragones has never thought good enough to select in a squad ...
Sergio Garcia is basically a journeyman professional, not good enough to make it at Barca and basically drifting around the lower reaches of La Liga. He's had a good couple of months, but hasn't done that much for a Zaragoza team that might still be relegated tomorrow night
However, it's odd that they picked so many inexperienced players and didn't include Bojan.
Bojan himself opted out of contention for a place in the squad. He had talks earlier this week and declared himself 'mentally and physically shattered' after a tough season.
It's ironic that Aragones would rather pick a 17-year-old who has basically done nothing yet in his career (Bojan) and then announces he is too tired to play ...
...whereas Raul, a 30-year-old legend and Spain's/the Champions League all-time top scorer who has captained his side to two La Liga titles in succession, is in great form (23 goals this season) and is desperate to play, gets ignored:confused:
see's it

Have to disagree. I was never Seedorf's biggest fan, but you have to respect the man's record. And his form as he has got older is superb. I think in a young Dutch side he would have been a big plus. But I do think Holland will get to quarters, where they will lose to Spain.

Yeah fair enough, but i dont think he has the right mentality to help those younger players.
I think that Spains main problem is there manager, there is absolutely no doubt that Spain have the players, but Aragones is always prone to making bad decisions, either tactical or team selection.

I hear you there. Arragones is a dinosaur and a racist. Only in Spain could a man like that prosper. But they are so strong now, I can't see even him stopping them reaching the semi. Where France will break their hearts yet again.

Drenthe?????? Hasn't got a sniff with Real this season. Didn't make the squad.
I do think that they will get out of the group along with France. But I see them meeting Spain in quarter final's and don't give them much hope there.
