They're the official figures, so they have to include everyone.

Except season ticket holders, U-12s, pizza delivery men, away fans who intended to travel and ghosts.

Our official figures arent always that accurate I can assure you... they dont normally count season ticket patrons.

if there was 230 there you can be sure 70/80 were Harps supporters at the very least so just 150 home fans and neutrals. Most 1st division Teams have bigger support than that. And yet we're still ahead of you, must really eat you up.

Says who? Tallying the gate at Rovers matches is my responsibility, and I can assure you our official attendances are very accurate and DO include season ticket holders. All the turnstile registers are recorded at every game, and our CPO and Commisar give me the number of guests present.

I stand corrected. A few years ago they just seemed a bit off the mark (especially when we were playing in dalymount)
My bad anyway... :o

Agree, Derry/Harps will play 4 times this year, and their crowds will (and have been) excellent, however the statement 'far and away' biggest derby in loi is not an accurate statement to make.

The last 3 games* between Dundalk and Drogheda Utd, (granted all were FAI Cup games) but these were alll within the past 4 years all returned between 4,000 + 4,500 crowds.

*im not including the annual warm up pre season game between both

If you take the type of crowd mentioned here for Dundalk-Drogs and Bohs-Rovers (e.g. around the 4,500 mark) with the lowest-end of the crowd average for City-Harps derbies (6,000) you have a 33% disparity.

I think it's fair to describe that difference as 'far and away' bigger... :D

From reading the thread on the Harps forum it seems that RTÉ announced the crowd had grown to 230 during the match, could possibly be one of their useless guesstimates.

Athlone vs Monaghan. Not official as I didnt get a chance to see the treasurer but looked to be around 360 at the game.

Will check out the official figure when I get up to Athlone some day this week.

. (Also, despite their current woes, Limerick have been successful and well supported in the past).[/QUOTE]

Woes that have been going on now for close to 30 years.

If there was a real genuine well of support that surely would not have happened.

Update after the weekend. Clubs who give official figures are in bold. 489 (http://community.fingal.ie/SportingFingal/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=52&Itemid=2) at Fingal v Longford a couple of weeks ago. 2143 at Cork v Rovers per the attendances thread on their forum. 800 mentioned for Dundalk v Fingal; that about right?

Think a few of the gaps have already been posted; going to go back and find them and update this shortly.

Harps 3rd highest despite being in a relegation battle. We are showing up a lot of teams.

If we are relegated it will be a big loss to the league.

New 7000 all seated all covered stadium, new state of the art off field facilities and the league's 3rd best supported side, I think its fair to say that we would be a huge loss ;)

the crowd that was at the derry match distorts the figures(massive away support).
lets see how many attend your next home league match and use that as a more realistic figure - or else year end.

That is an AVERAGE crowd. If we were just taking the Derry match it would be 5000 :D

Take away every club's largest gate and their averages would drop a lot too.

Our attendances have been excellent compared to other teams, even teams a lot higher.

It would be a big loss to the leagues. We are pulling up the average attendance in the league despite being near the bottom of the table.

We are just about to build the North West's center of Excellence making us the North West's primary soccer development center. ;)

good - a feeder club for derry and rovers - send us down a few more seamus colemans

regarding crowd numbers ye have had your two home derbies. i will stake any money that ye will not be in the top 3 after 22 games - that will be a more accurate assessment .

In fairness I think Galway Utd were the third highest supported team last season but that support has fallen off this season. Wait until the novelty of the first season back in the top flight and having to endure lousy results and diabolical performances every week kicks in.

Yep....2000 season ticket holders and 1,500+ paid to get in.

Maybe those guys with Cork tops on where really from Derry and maybe even though they're were only 150 empty seats in the main stand (which has 2,400 seats) we had false heads put in to make it look good on TV.

There were no fans at all on the side where the camara's were...............just a figment of my imagination!!!!!!!!!!

Maroon,

Apart from the price hike in Terryland, any other reason why there’s been a huge drop off in attendances as it can’t be all just that.
Last season I heard Nick Leeson was running free busses for kids, doing great promos and just getting a good crowd in the stadium for atmosphere and support.
Great idea if true?

What’s gone wrong this year as I don’t think a 5 Euro price hike and a poorer season, you don’t just drop your average from around 3000 to 1200.

I think it's the likes of the BBC who are playing fantasy football attendances.

There was near enough 2,000 in the new stand itself, let alone the rest of the stadium....

The juicy irony of a Cork fan accusing anyone or anythin else of fantasising on attendances...... :D

Even if yee's were building the Bernabeu, and we were playing in the Daisy Field, you still wouldn't be the North-west's centre for anything bar worst derby record in Irish footballing history...... :D
