thats really poor league cup has become a poor relation , especially with setanta cup and a league

i think that if setanta sports bothered heading west of the shannon that there would be a great attendance in sligo galway or ballybofey despite the last two teams obvious problems which i hope can be resolved asap..
this crowd keep taking the pi*s out of sligo rovers
top six last year - fourth potentially after this weekend and no chance of ever been shown on rte or setanta.
i am not belittling the supposed top six but we would be very much in the mix if it was not for a baffling decision to disallow a legit goal for us against bohs and for them to break upfield and score a goal within 25 seconds.
rant over but i am tired of watching bohs cork derry drogs and pats
give other teams a chance setanta.

a cheap get out in my opinion ... if we got a gantry they would complain about the roads and the infrastructure.
they have to accept that there are more teams than 6 in the premier league.
coverage of the so called top 6 is approaching saturation point.
no offence to derry supporters, but we are not far off them despite the fact that they are the best fans bar none but i think that they are shown live too often - same as bohs pats cork and drogs.
i pay 19.99 a month to setanta like a lot of more eircom league fans.
you see all english premier league teams at least 6 times live on sky.
live football has to showcase the league , not just the percieved glamour clubs or they are failing the genuine supporters.
rte were forced to show sligo-derry in sept 06 because it was the cup semi final.
it appears this will be rovers only other chance of appearing live on english speaking tv this season also.

a cheap get out in my opinionMaybe so but why isn't the club building one so they can't use that excuse anymore and they'll be proven to be liars? I won't complain about lack of TV coverage until we have a gantry...no excuses not to come to the Showgrounds after that.

Out here in the sticks you have to pay for Setanta. Not like you sleek city types who get it free from NTL/UPC or whatever they call themselves these days!

Still - I can't help feel there is a bit more support out there than usual this season. Which if it lasts across the season will be great.
.
Barring last night its certainly noticeable down here anyway. Weve managed over 3000 for every league game so far, that wasnt even happening the year we won the league.
Our crowd against UCD took everyone by surprise, even Murray commented on it in the programme.
Hopefully it will keep up but a lot will depend on our performances which have been poor to date.
Well done to the CPOs

I was down at the Limerick Shels game last night.
Not a chance the 672 figure is correct!!
The biggest cheer of the night went up when that was announced at the game. 300 to 400 max in my opinion. I tried to do a rough count and got about 100 in the stand, another 100 around the wall on the stand side of the ground and then add in the numbers on the side I was on and behind the goals, it couldn't have been over another 200.
672 is wrong

I'd say bout 1100 at the game last night, good crowd behiond the goal and a few in the red seats, then the green tent had a good crowd in it. looked about 20-30 cobh fans. Very poor crowd since we're playing well, bring on the rovers!!!
About 700 at the RSC for Waterford United v Monaghan last night
why dont Derry pubish their attendances?

672 is correct offcial attendance. There are turnstiles to count it you know. Way more than 100 in the stand. About 100 Shelbourne fans on the other side.

total rubbish higgins and your not getting your way on this one. as the man said we have turnstiles which cannot be tampered with doing a count. at the end of the evening all tickets, 5 differant types, are counted and verified. Just so you know there was over 200 kids there last night. one of them has a nice pump on his head after getting struck with a bottle but 672 is the correct figure

why dont Derry pubish their attendances?
Not sure why you're singling City out here - most clubs don't.
Though uniquely amongst EL teams, we have a tax incentive to not publish our gates.

Everyone has an incentive to keep things in cash, not just youz.
You can just claim lots of your 5000 crowd were freebies, and no VAT issues.

between 2900 and 3100 at showgrounds for sligo v sham rovers. great atmosphere, around 130 rovers fans there and gave their team great support. the cheerleaders were good as well. If only we could have games like this every week.

There's a big difference between it being handy to keep a bit of your gate in cash for some clubs, versus being clobbered for 17.5% of your gate revenue in tax for each and every game.
One involves choice - not all clubs do it, those that do will do it to varying extents at varying times, and I doubt many have the nerve or the stupidity to under-state their crowds by as much as 17.5% each and every week.
P.S. What 5,000 crowd ??

No there's not. PAYE is 41%; saving that's an incentive for some clubs, whereas you said no other club in the league had incentive to not publish their gates, which is clearly nonsense.
5000 is just a made up figure to illustrate a point.
