From next year all of the Cobh Ramblers U17 and Youth games will be played in a new permanent "home" venue.
I think the new location is an absolute disgrace and an insult to the youth of Cobh.
For a bit of fun i'm not gonna tell ye where for a while and i'm gonna leave it go for a day or two to allow for guess'.
Ye will all be shocked!
It's in County Cork thats all i'm willing to say.

The teams currently don't even train in Cobh. They currently train in Pfizers. Not only that there is only about 3 or 4 Cobh players on either team.
It's an absolute joke. I expect the Cobh Ramblers Schoolboy system to fold in the next year or 2. Unless drastic changes are made!

Springfield Ramblers have use of Pat O'Brien Park. The U-17 and Youth teams have nothing to do with Springfield Ramblers and are known as Cobh Ramblers.
Pat O'Brien Park can't be used as different people control the U-17 and Youth league as opposed to the Cork Schoolboys League controlling U-11's up as far as U-16. I suppose only certain amount of teams can use the one pitch and I doubt Pat O'Brien Park is up to the standards expected by the AUL who control the U-17 and Youth League.

how does the youth set up work. who is the current manager. have they won anything recently. just wondering because i was at the recent cobh pirates agm and there set up is very good. all underage coaches are currently working towards there i.r.f.u. coaching badges. the senior squad are involved with underage training sessions. not a bad set-up for a "JUNIOR" club. anyone know?

good point, but the schools play some of their games in springfiend to stop students skiping class to watch them so why not put that to them and see wat they have to say.they might change their mind

lads im sure the school venues have been thought of the bottom line is we just dont have the money to buy pitches and theres not much available anyway, the more time that passes the harder it is going to be to purchase. We need a serious injection of cash or a seperate supporters club for the youth system .one problem alright is local players we need all our teams up to u18s to be local its not going in the right direction we are tryin to build from the top inevitable problems lie ahead.

:mad::mad::mad:

As U17 Manager I can confirm that we have been told to play our "Home" games in Pfizers, Ringaskiddy for the rest of this season. The U17s do, however train in the Colaiste Muire Astroturf every week and NOT in Pfizers as stated. Each player on the U17 squad pays towards the cost of the astroturf. There currently is a squad of 17 players, 10 of which are from Cobh, 6 from Cork and 1 from Youghal, so it is incorrect to say that there are only 3 or 4 from Cobh. The U17 team is self sufficient, the only cost to the club is the hiring of the Pfizers pitch and referees fees.

For a club like Ramblers to survive and compete we must produce and develop our own players so any players who are brought into the club at U17 level must be better than those already there and be potential League of Ireland players. The catch pool of players must be the whole of the Cork area. There are some people of the opinion that we must be winning leagues and cups every year at Youth level. This is not our priority however, all it would be is an added bonus. Our priority is to produce players for the 1st team. We are very confident that the group of players we are working with this year have the potential to step up. We expect some to play with the Reserve Team and others to play with the U20 team this season.

I hope that this clarifies any issues regarding the U17 team.

If only things could be explained to us as clearly as that all the time.

Question for ya Eddie:
Are you happy that Cobh Ramblers have to play their home games away from Cobh?
I understand where your coming from but surely you can't like the fact that Pfizers is the home pitch of the 17's and Ballinhassig is the home pitch of the youths!

bellavistaman

saying that pfizers isnt a bad pitch, and could have been dumped on alot lot lot worse, go on to aul section, match in blarney was called off due to horses on pitch!

Thats because i'm not happy with the situation. I think it's an absolute farce the situation the Youth System is in. I havn't been happy with it for quite a long time aswell.
It wasn't like this when you were playing 17's bella and it wasn't like this when I played 17's.
I'm dissappointed more than anything because of the drastic change.

this pitch issue goes alot further than just youths, the senior team dont even have a piych to train on, they destroy the pitch by training on it but theres nothing at all we can do, we even asked the town council for help, but i really doubt they'll be giving any.

Yes i'm old enough to vote but even if I wasn't it wouldn't mean sh*t.
The club needs a benefactor not a letter.
I tell ya if I won the lotto in the morning i'd buy the club a pitch where the 17's and Youth team could play and the senior team could train without a problem or bother of wrecking the pitch.

In our Ramblers utopia, we'd have a nice shiny pitch or two somewhere in the town for the underage games to be played on and for first team training.

But we don't. So get used to it, unless you have a spare full-size pitch in your back garden to donate.

Why do so many people feel its their right to come on this forum and slag the club, driving new players/supporters away, when they are doing absolutely nothing themselves to sort the situation out? This club is basically run by volunteers and its up to the club to use the very limited manpower and finances at its disposal to operate all aspects of Cobh Ramblers. Most of the people involved (including Eddie O'H whose post thankfully brought some sanity to this idiotic thread) are giving up their own time to try and give us a club to support and/or play for.

So why the hell do so many so-called supporters devote so much time to sticking the knife in from a distance instead of rolling up their sleeves and getting involved with the club? Its so cowardly and hypocritical. Going into our biggest season ever, we need everyone to rally round the club and get involved, instead of sitting at home scratching their backsides and sending stupid posts to this forum.

To those involved: Cop on lads.
