But if Shay (re) signs for Celtic, that would mean he would be taking a huge pay cut in order to get game time with a team who want/need him. No matter what Shay decides for the rest of his playing career, he is doomed to receive a level of negativity.

He is looking after our interests, by keeping the ball out of the Irish net! But I might become a bit more negative about Shay if he somehow:
A) turns out to be a criminal overlord, pulling the Irish government's strings to protect his greedy investment interests at the expense of the Irish people.
B) is running a shady smuggling operation across the border at Lifford, causing misery to thousands of local people.
C) has been spending his down time at Man City masquerading as an X Factor contestant called Wagner.
D) (re)signs for Celtic.
Shay Given's a bit of a local hero and doesnt come accross as a bighead at all. In any case Id forgive him just about anything, certainly including insulting the townsfolk of Derry, apart from option D which would quite probably make me physically sick.

I hate to say this but can anyone see him signing for MLS? And their 0.4 ratings in their Championship game? Makes the NHL look like ER in its prime.
But I can see him getting an offer.

No way he goes the the MLS, their season just finished and they wouldn't be able to play any kind of transfer fee whatsoever, never mind his wages. Not going to happen until his current contract is up, and even then....

Maybe somebody else can confirm, but I think if Shay plays less than 10 games this season he'll be allowed break his contract with City.

this a thread on Leon Best isn't it
It is but theres not really a lot to say about Leon these days unless you happen to have been belittled by him in a drinking establishment. The Newcastle reserve team does have an exciting Manchester United fixture coming up though.

I was wondering why this thread had been so active of late. Only decided to gander now.
Poor Leon Best, first he can't see the dancefloor, gets abused by Weldoninho and now Shay Given has hijacked his thread.
That Given lad's an arrogant so and so alright.

On the bench against Spurs today. Obviously decided to take some time out from offending people at nightclubs to get himself fit.

On as a 77th minute sub against Wigan.

had a great chance late on, was clean through, beat the centre half, but I think he slipped and didn't get the direction on the shot to score and it went well wide

From the text on Sky looks like he made a decent impact when he came on.

Pardew is equally keen to retain the big names he already has at his disposal, and while he admits some of his fringe players could leave this month, he insists striker Best, who was used as a substitute in Sunday's 1-0 Barclays Premier League victory at Wigan, will not be one of them.
He said: "He hasn't really had many opportunities and he is crying out for one. I can assure Newcastle fans he is not here collecting his money.
"He is banging on my door and he wants a chance. I quite like that, so he may feature in the next two or three games."

Starts tonight in Ameobi's absence who has a hamstring strain. Personally, I would have gone with Nile Ranger but hopefully Best does well.

Hell be celebrating in the nightclubs tonight.
On a serious note, I hope he does well. There's an opportunity to force his way in as Carroll's strike partner if he does well.

Scores! Little ball over the top from Lovenkrands and a neat left foot finish from a bouncing ball into the far corner. I believe his first Premier League goal.

Not really, but a nice finish. He's done well so far but not winning the balls in the air as much as Carroll and Ameobi do.

I believe so.

Scores again! Ball comes through the area and after a deflection Best smashes it through a crowd of players and into the goal.

Off to class, Best has done very well so far, lets hope he gets his hat trick...he could well as West Ham have offered nothing so far.

3-0 now, with Nolan scoring.
saw West Ham at home against Man City and they were playing like they were already relegated

3? OMG!!!
Been watching Wolves and Everton, my computer is not fast enough to watch 3 games.
Coleman nearly scored and Hunt hit the post/crossbar.

If you've ever wondered what Avram Grant has to do to get sacked, you're probably watching the answer.
Congrats to Leon, way to take the opportunity given to you. Hat trick. Can he play with Andy Carroll surely now is the question??!?
Some very positive comments about him from Pardew in recent days, akin to no way was he leaving the club etc.

Ciaran Clark with a piece of that action too I'd say. I think he's on 3.

Foley's on three too if you count cup goals.
edit: wait, if you include cup goals Coleman has 4
edit 2: the cup isn't in the Premier League. I should try reading first.

my mistake, he's the join top scoring striker in the Premier League with Walters (three in the league, with one more in the League Cup)
Doyle has one in the league, with two more in the League Cup
Keogh and Keane both haven't scored in the Premier League
James Collins and Billy Clarke have yet to play in the Premier League (and are unlikely to by the end of the season)
overall, Coleman and Clark both have three goals in the League and Coleman has scored in the League Cup as well

Anyone know the last Irish player not named Keane to score a hat trick in the Premier League prior to today?
EDIT: Just found out that there has never been another Irishman to score a hat trick in the Premier League other than Robbie...well done Leon.

Did big Quinny never get a hat trick?? Have a feeling he did but basing that feeling on no foundation really.

according to this wikipedia page - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Premier_League_hat-tricks - it's only Robbie Keane (VS Everton, Wolves and 4 VS Burnley) and Leon Best
