Another convincing friendly start to a season by Fenlon.
This time last year we lost 4:0 away to Dundalk. 1:0 at home to Monaghan uis an extremely poor result for a team with genuine title aspirations - Friendly or not.

Speak for yourself CTID.... :)
I said at the time that we shouldn't have been getting thumped unanswered by a First Division team when we were hoping/expecting to win the league, and I got the hairdryer response from the usual 'Thought Police' on the City site for it.
Just thought I'd get a similar ball rolling for Nutsy in his new job... ;)

Aw you auld charmer Mr Partisan. It was very funny the way you and your "posse" were debating if it was me when I went past and then one of you got the nerve up to shout "Magicme". The way you all blamed each other for shouting was classic too!
Was great meeting you too.
As for the game, we had a few players looking very unfit but since they have only been back in training a few weeks and some of them have been out of football for awhile, I am confident they will improve. It was funny how Crowe and Fenn had loads of chances but neither of them good pull it off. Sheppard had some good chances for us and hope that he can find his sharpness coz then he will be superb.
It was a pleasure to be in Dalymount and watch our lads battle it out with such a strong team and despite the goal and some of the aforementioned fitness and sharpness problems, our lads gave a good account of themselves.
Was nice to chat to Robbie Farrell too. Him and Gill must be planking themselves after seeing how good we were. ;)

That must be Bohs' strongest team? Why is Murphy not in goals?
Problem with the strikers. crowe seems past it and Fenn is not a natural goal scorer. Just my opinion

Kronopka and Cronin are trialists. No point having them on trail and not playing them. Up front we will have Byrne hopefully fit for the start of the season, Mansaram and McGinley there too.

Yeah. He came on for Crowe though.
Sunderland reserves 1 Pats 1
we made 8 subs so starting 11 only
Ryan(clarke)
Brennan O Carroll(Foran) Paisley(partridge) Rogers
Ryan(haverty) Fahey Lynch Byrne
Quigley(fitz) O Neill(guy)
We looked solid O Carroll looks the dogs ****** big strong fast and has the touch of an arsenal player
Their goal came from a ryan kickout hitting one of theirs in the back of the head and trickling in :(
Our goal was possibly the greatest solo goal ever scored, quigley picked it up just inside our half danced by their entire midfield , skinned the 1st centreback then used his strentgh to push off some 7 foot monster before slotting it under the keeper.
We looked very solid in that they never troubled us and only had one shot, last 20 minutes we dominated them and should have one only for a sitter missed by someone ;)

Sounds like our Brian McCarthy who has been over on trial with them. Do you have the Sunderland line up?

Hardly, with Byrne, Hunt, Mansaram, Burns all out injured Murphy not starting and Oman going off injured after only 5 minutes. That's practically half of a starting 11.
That said, Monaghan looked like a bunch of auditioners for the Rolly Poly's and on paper at least Bohs should have won easily. FWIW, I thought Monaghan were unlucky not to go in at half time with a lead as they had the best of the opportunities in the first half.
Bohs owned the second half and Turner scored a lovely goal into the top corner from the edge of the box.

Now factor in the away vs home element, and the differential in ability between Dundalk and Monaghan, and see how unconcerned you should be..... :p

Can't argue with that - i was shocked at the state of some of our players. I know we don't pay them a lot, but still to be a professional footballer and be as overweight as some of them were is theft from the people who pay their wages.

It was 12 months ago. Which is precisely the number of bites I'm hoping to get on this thread by bringing it up. Thank you for being No. 5. :D
It was an early sign of where our season was to end up going. No team with genuine title aspirations should be getting beaten 4:0 by a team in the division below - friendly or not, away or not. Hence why i drew a parallel with Bohs low score at home against a team much, much weaker than Dundalk.
Now who's for No.6 then.....?

As they say in all the best pub conversations, everything's relative...
I'm just pleased that, even a year on, my taking up the point along with a whole four other people has allowed you to take some comfort from being tanked by First Division opposition. :p
I may be wrong, and there's always the cup, but I don't think anyone from Bohs will be posting in February 2009 about how we miraculously turned over Monaghan in 2008.

Im saying nothing, i remember 4/5 years ago getting beat by Londonderry Institute in a pre-season friendly, dont want to tempt fate as we play them tomorrow night again. By far a bigger humiliation than the thumping by Dundalk......
Im in agreement with Steve though, friendly results may not be taken too seriously but from past experience they can show potential or indeed a lack of it...btw that year we were beaten by Stute was also one i dont want to remember too well.
