I quite like George as a "character" that the league needs to improve the profile. Delighted we didn`t sign him though. Best of luck to him, Cork for runners up.

Should be a bumper year for crowds in Drogheda
I'm thrilled he is coming back to the league, always was a fan of George for the controversy he could cause. Delightful player on and off the field

His interview on Newstalk last night reminded me why he's a complete tool.
His claims that he was only negotiating with other clubs to drive a hard bargain with Cork and that he would never have gone anywhere else was clearly some kind of attempt to portray himself as a Machiavellian Monty Burns-esque dealmaker when it actually made him look like an arrogant, and desperate tit.
Again.

Did anyone read his interview in the Examiner over Christmas? Basically he said that he was falling asleep during games in League 1 because he was miles better than everybody else. He also made some ridiculous remarks about how he was better than Kevin Doyle etc. It would have been funny except that he actually believes it himself.
There was also something along the lines of 'I'll have to remind myself not to but to a 2 door BMW again, they're way too small". If it was anything like the 20 year old banger I saw him driving in Cork he's right.

The way George walked out on us before our extremely important Champions League game was an absolute disgrace, not to mention the way he continuously refused to play and continued to get paid for months whilst knowing the club was in trouble financially.
I dont like his attitude, his cockiness or his off field antics BUT he is a class player and will be a great asset to our team again so i welcome him back with open arms as long as he puts his head down, works hard and puts in the performances we all know he is capable of.

More or less how I feel myself. He will improve our team & I will just erase the past from my memory but of course will kind of expect a blow up at some stage in the future.
Maybe we can use him as a decoy in away matches :p

I hope this doesn't split the Gamble / Healy axis but we certainly have options now and the inevitable Flynny/Gamble/Healy/Georgie injury would be easily overcome.

Healy has to be dropped now that Georgie has arrived. In all fairness Healy is a poor mans Joe Gamble.

Has to be dropped.
Get a hold of yourself.
Whatever you think about how he's settled in thus far, to say he must be dropped rather than Kearney or Farrelly is crazy.

Healy is quality. And has been excellent for City. I'm sure people expect some 'Superman' just because he's got caps. Pats won't get that, the players are only human!

Has he really?
Apart from a few bombastic runs here and there he has mostly been ordinary.
Certainly hasn't stood out like a George O'Callaghan.
Expect huge things with at pre-season behind him.

OK, who would you put in instead of him? As I said, people expected him to turn in spectacular performances every week. He has been very solid and efficient. I wouldn't have another midfielder in the league in there instead of him.

Well for one, Farrelly, even with his fat belly was more effective.
When Healy was at Celtic he was noted for his energy, a few goals but mostly it was headless chicken stuff. He needs more consistency in his game.

O'Callaghan slams Rico on return
by Ruairi Corr, 02 February 2008
George O’Callaghan has accused former Cork City manager Damien Richardson of holding his career back, as he returns to the club for the coming season.
A highly-public fallout between Richardson and the midfielder saw O’Callaghan moving to championship side Ipswich, where an unsuccessful first season saw him farmed out on loan to Brighton in League One.
Alan Matthews has now replaced Richardson as the boss at Turners Cross, and O’Callaghan feels that they can deliver a league title to Cork City again.
“I’d made my mind up to come back early on,” O’Callaghan told the Examiner.
“Especially with Rico going. I knew Alan was taking over then. And to be fair, things weren’t going so well at Ipswich. I didn’t want to go down to a League One team. I’ve missed playing at the Cross.
"I’ve missed the lads as well so it’s nice to be back and it’s like I’ve never been away really. They know what I’m like so there’s been no problem at all.”
His time at Ipswich was constrained by poor form and meningitis, not helped by a red card on his full debut, but O’Callaghan is also convinced that his reputation had followed him there, leading him to be put on loan.
“People see me as a mix between Joey Barton and George Best. My first day in England, someone from the FAI, I won’t say who, rang up Ipswich and asked them why they’d signed me, saying I was a bad egg. It came to the stage in England that clubs didn’t really want to go near me.”
O’Callaghan claims that Leeds manager Dennis Wise was one player who was turned off by rumours about his personality.
“Dennis Wise told my agent that he wanted me but he’d heard I was a raving lunatic. When Dennis Wise is saying that about you, you haven’t got a hope.”
The 28-year-old’s time at Brighton then ended after he criticised chairman Dick Knight’s handling of player contracts.
“I hammered the chairman in a press interview. I wanted to come home. Ipswich are a fantastic club and if I wasn’t going to get to play with them, I wasn’t going to stay. I improved as a player there.
“But I’m one of those players that has to be loved. I didn’t have that at Ipswich. When that doesn’t happen, my heart isn’t in it, and I lost interest.”
O’Callaghan maintains that this desire for attention lay behind his problems with Richardson, who publicly chastised him after he got sent off in a game against Bohemians. The manager also fined him two weeks' wages, after he refused to play following the criticism.
“Rico didn’t like the attention I got off everyone. Any chance of me going, he was happy to see. They all were. A bit of it was my fault obviously, but I just confronted him about the things he was saying in the press. I trusted him. But I lost it when I read those things.
“I’m my own man and I have my own opinions,” O’Callaghan continued.
“I’m a bit stubborn. It got to the stage where neither of us could back down which was a shame because I think I lost out and they lost one of their best players. It was a terrible five months. I was sat at home watching the lads play in Europe.”
Named Eircom League Player of the Year for 2005, O’Callaghan claims that his return could herald another title-winning season for the Cork side.
“It has affected my career a little bit and all I can do now is just go out and win the league for Cork City, and just be player of the year again. And get Turner’s Cross buzzing again every week.”

Go easy on your labelling.
Derrynane.
As an aside, I always thought the Derrynane beat the Donie Forde when it came to the grumpy old men stakes.
They've always been waiting to put George, Fenn and Roy in their place at the first sign of a fancy flick gone wrong.

Agree with you there.
Derrynane is a bolic to watch a match.
Healy did ok but unfortunately for him he had to play alongside the leagues best midfielder & Joe Gamble always going to win that.
