As we play a lot of teams who are not part of the euro (eg Slovakia) we could sing:
Cheer up sweet Slovakia,
Oh what can it mean,
To have, no f*ckin euro and a,

Remember that class song
"We are the boys in green, the best you've ever seen, we've just made history, we're off to Italy, now listen to our song and you can sing along, you'll wonder where we've been when you see the boys in green, Ireland ireland lets show them what we got.........."
Well considering we are going back to Italy for the first time since Scalatci (spelling?) ****ed it up. Could we revamp this song??

Guys what about when we are at home next time in Croke Park is for each fan to jump up and down. If anyone was at the Slovakia match back in March you would have seen them do it.

No offence mate but are you taking the ****?? Lots of the muppets now following ireland latch onto any British song and adapt it for the boys in green. A bit of originality please before we are the laughing stock of European football. For a nation renowned for it's songwriters, poets and authors our repetoire is an embarassment. FFS whats wrong with the fields?? or even On the One Road, at least everyon knows them and they are IRISH.

Those songs are far too Irish for some of the people supporting Ireland. I agree that those should be sang though.

A few new ones picked up this campaign.
For Richie :
Whats that comin' over the hill, the Honey Monster, The Honey Monster
and
He's here,he's there ,he's every-fookin-where, Richie Dunne, Richie Dunne
Were on the One Road seems to be making a comeback even heard the odd Molly Malone, and there was even a big rendition of Uh Ah Paul McGrath in the Millenium Stadium. Also added to that is 'Whoa O Paul McGrath,Whoa o Paul McGrath' to the sound of the Day we Caught the Train 'Whoa O La La' part.
Not to mention 'We've won the eurovision more than you' and 'Theres only one Johnny Logan'
I'd most like to see more of the possibly less republican, historical songs added to in-game singing.Anyone suggest of any suitable ones that we can try bring in over the next few games?

Because some of us don't particularly think some fella getting shot trying to rob a police station is all that worthy of singing about at a football match?

If Rebel songs are good enough for the team then they should be good enough for the fans. England and Scotland have no problem singing older patriotic songs when their countries play. If it was up to some of the apologists in the Irish support we'd have one song: Stand up for the bhoys in Green.

Of course, if they were songs about murdering irish people of a different political persuasion, that'd really spur on our national team, right?

Shame so many turned their backs on the 6 counties after the treaty was signed and this filtered right through generations that are now content that a fifth of the island is still under british rule, sing patriot tunes if you mean them.

I don't give a rats arse if it amuses you to sing anti-british songs on your own time, but I would question if it's relevant to a bunch of mixed Irish and British citizens taking part in a World Cup qualifier versus Georgia.

''Anti-British songs''?
Like what are we talking about here, over the top cries of killing civilians or just folk songs and the like?

Its a football match. If it isn't of some motivational or comedic relevance to the teams on the park, it had better be a damn good song.
Good example: You'll Never Walk Alone (Gerry & The Pacemakers, thank you Liverpool's Kop)
Bad Example: Hold Me Now (Johnny Logan, thank you Bohs fans)
What's a folk song?
"All music is folk music. I ain't never heard a horse sing a song."

there is a relevance for Bohs fans singing Logan songs, we've both been quite successful away in europe
What's a folk song?
Pretty much anything by Christy Moore

You don't mind the fields of athenry though surely? No, very good song musically. Prefer the Bishopstown version though! :)
I wouldnt exactly class it as a republican song though. Its focused on a relationship, the tears of seperation and oncoming hardship, with the famine as a setting rather than a topic. Even with its brief mention of the British, "stealing Trevelyn's corn" refers to the poverty of Irish people, their resulting impatience in breaking into storage in Cork to steal the maize imported by Charles Trevelyn , and the ensuing failure to realise that the maize seeds were almost inedible, its purpose being for planting rather than milling.
Obviously not relevant to a few overpaid premiership stars but as I said, sometimes quality breaks the mold!
