I dont know if one exists at the moment, but this could be the forum to get fans on the same page as far as atmosphere at game / organizing the odd "official"protest (when necessary of course!) and generally being a resource for sharing info amongst irish fans. I live in the States, but grew up onthe south Terrace in the glory (and not so glory!) days of mid 80's to early 90's. There used to be some crack and some characters about. We seemed to have a repertoire of songs (one road / boys in green / field of athenrye/ ireland / Molly malone / ooh ahh paul mcgrath etc) - enough to get us through a good 90 mins plus of entertainment. the south terrace used to tease all the corporate sections with chants of access / visa etc, but all in all good banter. And righ nasty shower of characters there to, so if an opposition player took the pi$$ they heard about it. Having been at home for the croker and wales games, it was like being in 5 different crowds at once!
I digress, but everyone seems upset at stan, upset at the wave, upset at the boo-ing this one or that. I personally would pay a 100 euro sub every year to join an official supporters club, or whatever dues were deemed appropriate. The lads at YBIG.IE and Foot.ie all do a tremendous service for fans like us overseas with the sites, and pulications, but a United voice and front is whats needed to move forward. I have never met any characters off here in person (or ybig.ie) but I would have no problem proposing a committee that could being all Irish supporters toghether based on the passion that some of these lads have for the game, and how much supporting ireland means to them. If there already exists such a group, could someone please post a link to it!!!

Although not officially recognised by the FAI the Republic of Ireland Soccer Supporters Club (ROISSC) is as close as you will get. They are an excellent organisation on the go since the early eighties with monthly meetings. Not to be confused with sh** head Alan Hunters group. www.roissc.com

When we got into Dublin city centre about 13:30 on the Saturday, there were lads doing surveys on behalf(I think) of the FAI about whether you would join an official Irish football fan club, how much would u pay, how did u travel to game, how much did travel cost etc. Quite interesting, I think it gave you a chance to win tickets to friendlies next year.
Official supporters club would be great but can't see it happening too soon

Dont get conned into an FAI supporters club. They tried that a few years ago, i think it was during Fran Rooneys time. Cant remember what they called it ,Ireland fan club or something similar, but you paid about 25 quid and were supposed to receive newsletters and regular mailings but nothing happened bar a cap and pin badge. Was scapped shortly after.

I actually remember that carry on!
Ideally an official supporters club with nothing to do with the FAI would be best, cos I really would be hesitant to be involved in a fan club run by that shower. Best to have a fan club run by fans! Even a foot.ie fan club! ;)

Think there might have been a pen too. It was a total flop.
However we all got a free Italy ticket as compensation a year later.

It wasn't a carry on. The purpose behind IrelandFANS was to generate funding for a football trust. Unfortunately the new administration following Rooney's departure didn't allocate resources towards its operation and let it die a slow sad death.
The draft trust deed produced was clear that funds would be maintained to develop the game and facilities particularly for boys and girls working closely with the Technical Development Plan in order to support the future national trams.
On the facilities side it would have seen capital investment into both LOI grounds and regional development centres.
Additionally it would have had its own personnel and structures in place at arms length from the FAI with a possible council place for the Supporters club rep.

Lets organise for a LArge bar in town to be the sponsor to it and we can all gather there before games to have a good sing song and develope new chants. There are 2 in the UK linked to the FAI www.mrissc.com which is the midland supporters and rissc in london.
We have 100 members who go to the home matches but we get split up
all over the ground so its hard to get the singing/ crowd going because
they seem to only allow us to have at most 10 together.

two things.
It might be no harm to investigate the setting up of a foot.ie supporters club.
Secondly would it be possible to see if the moniker Hunter is using is copyrighted, as its a joke at this stage that he is seen by the media as being a voice of football fans here.

He should be chucked out with Delaney. Thought he'd disappeared, hadn't heard from him in a while. Joe Duffy must have lost his phone number.

They are not officially recognised as such, meaning the FAI would not say they are part of the FAI(probably not a bad thing, though)and provide no funding, etc. Although they do recognise them in certain ways eg: providing block booking tickets for members.

Just thought I'd give this a bump as I was thinking about the new stadium.
Its fairly agreed at this stage that the atmosphere has been moderate at best to brutal at worst in CP the past year, understandable as its only a temp arrangement.
However when we get back to Lansdowne its important that the atmosphere is right.
The FAI seemed open to proposals for a singing section/fans section in CP, but for whatever reason it never came about.
However with 2 years to go before we have a game in Lansdowne there is ample time to have such a group set up and identified so that it can be properly introduced.
A simple letter to the FAI indicating your interest in such an idea would probably suffice, but I suppose what I'm trying to establish here is wpuld there be sufficient interest on foot.ie for such a proposal.

I think the FAI should allocate the big terrace behind the goal in the new LR to supporters clubs and LOI distributed tickets. That should get an atmosphere going.
I would deffo pay an annual sub of up to €100 to be part of a good supporters club. The ones in the UK are no good to most of us now are they.
A supporters club for away games would be very attractive also!

Many LOI tickets end up in the hands of casual supporters, for a "Kop" it would need to be made of of primairly supporters who travel to away games, and fans who request "Kop" end tickets
Plus, even with the old eL Section on the North Bucket, I seem to remember a
Bray supporter repeatedly telling everyone to sit down cos he wanted to watch
the match. Now he may have got his tikets through Brays supporters allocation,
which he has every right to, but he in no way wanted to be part of an eL
singing section.
Just because eL fans get the tickets, dont automaticially expect them all to
turn it into a festival athmosphere

Well at least they go matches every week as a matter of course not like a lot of posters who go across the sea a few times a season (and yes i include myself in thtat group). Most of the lads i go to Ireland matches are mad to join in chants/songs etc if they are started they will. EL fans are the way to start it imo

The point I made is that a lot of EL tickets end up in hands of non EL people, I know of many EL fans that wouldnt cross the road to watch Ireland play.
What is needed is to dedicate the North and South stands as "Kops" and market them as such so when the block bookings are reallocated people can choose if they want to be in a singing section or not, the visitors should be housed in a corner! and for most games we have very few visiting fans, id only expect the Italians to take up their full allocation.

i would doubt there will ever be singing sections due to the fact that these areas end up with most people standing for the duration of the match and that is against fire regs. maybe i'm wrong, but thats what i heard. i wrote to the fai before about a singing section when they planted that stupid band in the canal end at cp to give them a real alternative to creating an atmosphere but without a response.
i have always thought that a few strategically placed bodhran beaters around the stadium would help getting the atmosphere going. that band they currently have end up just doing drum rolls etc more befitting a circus!

Sounds good in theory and it should happen and indeed was suposed to happen at Croke Park but have my doubts, certain people may not want like minded fans fans all in one area as it may give rise to unflattering songs about certain individuals/organisations. They dont appear to notice/care that the atsmosphere is contrived at best (crap PA music the Proclaimers ? jesus wept, music immediately after a goal is scored God help us ?, or the band at lower Davin) and non existant at worse due to like minded individuals spread all over the place
Doubt very much the Italians will take up their Allocation - they dont seem to be great travellers and lets face it the weather could be dodgy and Ireland is bloody expensive.
Why exactly would they be requesting Ireland tickets from their club's Supporters Club if they aren't going to use them?
Its the use it or loose it allocation policy.
A lot of people (eL fans and non eL fans) would only have an interest in going to Ireland games if its against bigger teams, but to guarentee these tickets they'd have to take the ones for the likes of Canada, China etc. These in turn can get passed on to other people.
When I looked after our supporters tickets I had numerous arguements with people demanding tickets for the big games cos they go to all the Town matches, but then telling me to stick the tickets where the sun dont shine when I told them they'd have to take tickets for all games! I remember 1 fella in particular, always on to me to try and get him tickets (I had my own block booking before the eL allocation came about), he said he'd go to any match. Allocations came through so I rang him straight away ... "Call me back when the important qualifiers are on" was the response I got!
Despite being big into football and travelling around the country every second week ... some people just cant be bothered getting off work early and heading up to Dublin on a Wednesday night for friendlies against uninteresting opposition.

i wouldnt mind going to the ****ty friendlies but i think two things have to be seriously looked at
1) price of tickets for less attractive games, at the moment whilst using croker we know they have to give a good bit of the income to the gaa but seriously theres no way it should be 40/50 euro for friendlies
2) the lack of any real atmosphere at games is a joke, really have to get a good sing song going when we are back in lansdowne

That's exactly the point in my view. The FAI don't care about atmosphere so long as the ground is full. A singing section in the last campaign woulda been a focal point for the "Stan Out" campaign, not something the FAI are going to want to encourage.
