if the box opened first is done so because the host knows that it doesn't contain the prize then yes but if all choices are random then there is no difference.

hence if it is a random choice between the 3 boxes, where no-one including the 'host' knows what is inside then there is no advantage to changing, if however the 'host' knows all along where the prize is then you should change.
Eh, the point is that the host knows.

Regardless, even if he opened one of the other two at random, either it would contain the prize, or we're back in exactly the situation we would be in if he did know.

thats it alright you just didn't explain which door you would take after your question was answered. basically you ask which is the door to freedom and go to the opposite one to which they point.

i knew you had it with your first answer but i expected to get more than 3 bl00dy minutes out of it!!!

Is it better to seek actions of pleasure or to seek pleasure in actions?

:D Only joking really. Good thread, sorry for desecrating it with my personal quandaries! Still, it's there to be answered.....Bluebeard, I think I might be setting you up for an inspired, PotM contender.:p

Note; presumably there isn't an objective answer. Makes for a good riddle!

No. Just relax.

You expect me to relax after denouncing my post like that? I'm positively raging. What a self-defeating post! You should have thought about it more.;)

I've spent quite a few months seek any kind of pleasure, but the way I've been going with the ladies, it has been all inaction:(

If you have a scales of equilibrium (http://jonassmith.dk/weblog/uploads/scales.jpg) and nine golf balls, all look the same, all smell the same, all taste the same, all feel the same etc. etc. etc. except one of them is slightly heavier than all the others.

Can you identify the odd one out in just two measurements?

Put three balls in each side of the scales. If they balance then the heavier is in the other, unused three. If they don't balance, the heavier is in the heavier of the three balls.

Once you've established which three includes the heavier ball, repeat using those three balls, one on either side of the scales, and one spare. The heavier is the ball you're looking for. If they balance, then the heavy ball is the remainder one.
