It's nice to have the Munster Senior Cup included, but what's with the Stalinist exclusion of the LDV Vans Trophy in England? Now there's no virtual chance of Roddy Collins wearing his Louis Copeland on Sky.

Did you get the magazine off the web or is it in the shops?

Would the game run well on a Pentium 3 800mhz.
What RAM would you recommend?
would 256 be alright?

I'm running the Eircom League, English League and Italian League on my PC which is only 466Mhz with 128MB RAM. It takes 6/7 minutes to calculate the English Matches on a Saturday but other than that it's OK.

I'm sure you'll be grand provided you don't select too many leagues ( maybe bear in mind how many teams are in each League e.g. eL has only 22, English has 56 I think and Italian 48 ).

The game did warn me that I was over the limit in the number of leagues before I started so it will tell you if you choose too many leagues for your PC to handle.

I'm pretty sure it's there too!

The best thing about EP3 (I'm hoping) is that apparently they've corrected that little bug where your full back takes a throw in to your centre-half (generally Pat Scully for Limerick in my own case) who's neatly dispossesed by the opposition striker who then darts through on goal... used to drive me mental!

So hopefully that's sorted though I won't know until next weekend sadly... :(

that bug's fixed alright, annoyed the hell out of me too.

As far as specs go, I'm running it on a P2 1.5gHZ and it's fine, though I'm only running one league, as the delay was too much. Though it handled nine leagues fine, it was just the damn delay

Another question can you run (or is anyone runnig it) it under windows ME or 2000. Dosen't say on back of box:confused:

Ruairi, you must be the only person in the world that has a P2 1.5MHZ. Did INTEL make it just for you:p

Just to spice this up again, are there any players that you try and buy a lot when you're playing? When I do League of Ireland I basically take what I can get but after getting Limerick promoted one year in CM 2000/01 I strengthed the squad with Alan Kernaghan (a rock), John Sheridan and Tommy Coyne (couldn't even hold a place on the bench!). I remember signing a young lad called Robbie Daly in the same game but I think he was randomly generated.

With bigger teams I'd recommend Aimo Diana, Dmitrios Gramosis (spelling is off, he's a Greek/German with Hamburg I think), the usual Backircioglu and Kallstrom tandem, a verstaile defender called Suleyman Sleyman (again, spelling isn't great there but he's a Syrian/Swede), Greek international keeper with a long name that starts with 'E', Nigmatulin is a good cheapish keeper, Ajax have some players who develop well (Yakubu, Cruz, Trabelsi, Hersi), John Buikelma becomes a decent player as well. I've never really bothered with huge clubs, Villa, Celtic and Ajax are about my biggest so take that as a gauge. Oh and Taribo West on a free in a lot of editions is a good buy as well.

It disappeared when I downloaded the second patch. I couldn't find the magazine in Cork, does anyone have any suggestions? I think the keeper's Eleftheropolous.

Hitman, I'm in Cork for the weekend. If you want a copy I'll check in Limerick today and see if there's any left. The I can arrange to meet you in Cork on Saturday maybe and hand over the Magazine/CD in return for the cost price. It's a bit pricey at just under a tenner but if you want to do that either PM me here or else e-mail me (sadloserkid@hotmail.com) as soon as you get a chance.

I take lunch at 12.45 :D

And you got the Greek keeper right too!

EP 4 is out now, with EP 5 on the way.

Which would lead to the question... why release the thing when it takes 5 mods to fix it?

And my money is on a sixth mod being released.

You never know, all the bugs might be fixed by the time CM 5 is out

sadloserkid
09/07/2003, 11:31 AM
Yeah, it should never have been released in the state it was in... smelled of money to be honest. I'll be much warier of buying straigh-off next time out.

Yes but at that stage they will have created a whole load of new ones!!!

I don't think spending €50+ on the next full version is justified. You should be able to get a data update ( including patches ) for €10-15. That would be fair.

If they introduced a 3D Match Engine in the next version, then it would be worth paying for.

Rumour has it that they abandoned a 3d match engine for Cm4. In the CM4 magazine one of the development tema said that they'd need proper visualisation for over 200,000 players, and that it'd be like writing another game entirely.

It's slow enough anyway, imagine CM with a 3D engine?? Imagine the loading times!!! It'd be like being back in the commodore 64 days! :D

A 3D match engine won't be introduced for at least five years and even then, unless it's perfect, it'd be commercial suicide for SI Games. Most of the fanbase just wouldn't accept it.

To answer Hitman's question, yes it does fix A LOT of bugs. It also causes a dozen new ones though and the fix list for EP5 is also quite large. It's been three months since I've bought the bloody thing and I've only gotten about two weeks of enjoyment out of it. SI have handled the situation terribly and won't be getting anymore of my money again.

Anyone got any Player Tips?

As Manager of Derry I could sign:

Stephen Hughes (Injured for 5 Months) Sold for £250,000 to Rangers
Kanchelskis
Les Ferdinand
Per Frandsen

Also look out for a young Bulgarian called Torpindov (16yo) Valencia, Real, Feyenoord all calling for him....

I signed David Welch for Drogheda from Cork City on loan for the season and he and Andy Myler scored nigh on 60 goals on the way to winning the first division (Myler ended up with about 35 I think).

When I was playing with Cork City I signed Ray Carolan from Kilkenny (I think) on a free transfer, and he was excellent in the holding role in midfield.

Ken Oman (Bohs) is handy, got him on loan for two seasons, but the bugger wouldn't sign a permanent deal, despite a fee being agreed.

And, obviously enough, John O'Flynn is magic. :D

Kevin Kyle and Neil Mellor are usually good loan signings.

In the first division Paul Keegan (Leeds), Alan Dunne (Milwall) and Neal Horgan (Cork) helped me and my Limerick boys to promotion.

Following three losses on the trot, without scoring, an error when picking subs meant Noel Mooney starting up front. And scoring. So why is he no good when I put him in goal?

I'm in my 8th season with city in 01/02, i got a very old but still solid roy keane and totti as player coaches on €1,500 a week and a 28,000 stadium but can usually only have (at most) 5,000.was beaten by roma in the uefa cup final 3-1 but i'm sure we all still had a laugh at the match and got totally ****ed afterwards.(we were in Germany).i have a class keeper in james jowsey and had until the summer after the final, kallstrom, kilbane, selakovic(a great buy), richard dunne andan aussie who scored 44 goals in the league season.i won the league 7 out of the 8 seasons and also had glen crowe but he retired.

Im in the year 2008 with Bohemians just lost to Arsenal in the Q-Finals of the Champions league and i heared you get 13 million when the CL is over in TV money. Salas and Crowe are getting the goals for me up front, Ive downloaded the update from here:

http://members.lycos.co.uk/cm4up/

Ive also started a topic there for a EL network game if you wanna play reply in the network game section of that site.

Just to add to the ethical dilemma of using an editor, I finally won the Champions League after many, many attempts. However, the game crashed immediately afterwards, unsaved. So is it acceptable to keep replaying until I win again, or to just accept it I lose second time around?

Ruairi
28/08/2003, 2:22 PM
Well if you don't tell anyone it's acceptable! ;)

On another note, I started a new game as Man Utd, signed George O'Callaghan, after scoring 16 goals in his first season his value went up to £2.1m, then in the same game I went on to manage Newcastle, signed him from Man U for £1.8m and his value went up to £4.1m after half a season. Nice one. :D

There's been a split between Eidos and Sports Interactive. The upcoming version of Championship Manager will be their last together. After this Eidos will keep the name and Sports Interactive will retain the game engine and database.

Well reported SLK. www.gamesradar.com is a great site to browse through info for the new CM game. It seems not to recieve as much of a push from most websites as this seems to be a game with limited appeal outside of the Uk/Irish market.
