I know we dont do optastats here in the eircom league which is a shame but it would be interesting to know who would be the fastest player in the league.
I am thinking Joseph Ndo,Liam Kearney or maybe even Pat McCourt?

What do you think then?

Keith Foy.

Oh, fastest...

When was Ndo ever fast? Ollie Cahill when he gets going is a mover. Richi Baker used to be very fast while warming up too :D

I would say the top 3 are

1. Roy O'Donovan
2. Mark Farren
3. Fabio O'Brien

who'd win in a race between Keith Foy and Neale Fenn?

LeixlipRed
24/07/2007, 11:29 PM
Neither, Burdocks would see them coming and drive off

are ya joking!!..... have ya seen derek glynn run?? nobody comes close to him!.
ever goal he's scored bar one have come through his sheer pace and strength(stocky lad) coupled with his shot accuracy.... leaves defender for dust and finds the corner!. he doesnt win any headers, take long shots etc....
he would be by far the fastest player in the league it couldnt be possible anyone would catch him!!

Hey Lads,
Well i remember reading an article about ndo being the fittest and paciest player in the league in some newspaper months ago and it just stuck in my head that he must be the fastest.
So what about Zayed or Mark Quigley?

Risteard
24/07/2007, 11:39 PM
Roy O'Donovan.
Haven't seen Derek Glynn in full flight.
Maybe there's a you-tube video flying about?

Ger McCarthy was international sprinter material in his pomp and would probably still be the quickest player in the league if he came back into pro football and had a decent pre-season. Mark Rooney was up there too. Mark Rutherford over short distances.

Robbie Shields was probably the quickest player I saw in the league, immediately after he came back to Shels from Leeds.

O'Donovan is the fastest I've seen but of course he runs like a big girl, hands flying out everywhere...

...Alan Bennett was always very fast actually, never saw him out paced by an opposition striker

There are lots of "fastest player".
I'm sure you will find that the fastest over 20 yds is not the fastest over 100 yds.
What distance are you talking about?

richiemd
25/07/2007, 1:05 AM
Good point Sniffa,
I would say it is over 100 yards as that is what they do in the english premiership and thierry henry regularly topped those charts when he was there.

Ger McCarty was the fastest player i have ever seen , really is a shame he decided to give up football altogther. Relish the thoughts of him back at dundalk.

He's still playing with Tolka Rovers. Might be signing for Shels next season.

The sharpest over 10 yards is Murphy ( Bohs keeper ). I've been very impressed with his reading of the game. I've seen Tadhg Purcell overtake many a centre half this season.

Kieran o Reilly at Cobh Ramblers...scored 17 goals 2 seasons ago before a serious hip injury...nearly back to full fitness now (thank god)..what blistering pace he had,,no defender could catch him..

At Galway Utd Derek Glynn is probably the quickest over 20 yards but if it was 100 yards I would say that Derek O Brien might win it

just to echo whats been said about Ger McCarthy... I can't think of a faster player at Pats (nicknamed Istabraq for his speed and rubbish footballing skills)

Currently I'd say Stephen Quigley is the quickest player at the club. Unlikely anyone's quicker in the league tbh but of the high profile players O'Donovan seems very quick

I would have picked O'Donovan myself but he's very slow as finalising his transfer:D

Quickest Drogs player I would have thought was Shane Robinson. He's quicker than Zayed, Cahill, Fabio or Baker although Brian Shelley would come close to him

I'd have said Chrissy Breen before he went off to Australia. Fastest at finn park would be Marc Brolly or Conor Gethins id say.

Our new right winger, Fitzgerald is very fast. I haven't seen a defender keep up with him yet. Pat Kavanagh at Bray is quick too.

Kearney isnt fast at all....his legs move quickly but theyre so small they dont take him far.

Roy O Donovan is incredibly fast...its hilarious when he's doing his big girly run and sometimes he's moving so quickly he falls over his own feet.

Didnt notice Glynn being that quick against us but obviously you'd have to see them regularly.

Always thought Farren looked very quick too

O'donnovan is extremely fast. Cant believe no one has mentioned drogs shane barrett though!I dont think i've ever seen a faster person.

Barrett need 4/5 strides to hit top stride.

Roy O'Donovan is very quick over the first 10 yards.

He put a hotel on it, then pocketed a small fortune when a giant boot came to stay;)

you'd need to really see the 2 goals against longford as a prime example as both were ran frm half way line!.... these ones against Harps are a better example though then the pats game

Nobody mentioned speed.
The question was - who is the fastest player :)

Drogman.
25/07/2007, 7:45 PM
What about Aidan O'Keeffe of Drogs. He's the quickest player I've ever seen, faster than Shane Barrett and Shane Robinson.

We've a couple of fast players in Wexford like O'Loughlin and Colfer. The future is bright.

mikey o shea, when he doesn't get blown off the ball, he a player you have to take down, or he will out pace any defender he comes up against,

but who's the quickest, proven week in and out, that there fast and good footballers, what i mean is they get past players by shear pace and skill

i mean i could probably win a race over 100 yards against any of them but i have no ball skill, so what good am i

bellavistaman

You said it.;):D

But Mikey O'Shea is lightning would be vey confident over 100 yards he'd win, especially in 1st Div. Has the skill to cope with the pace too.

I would love to see a race between O'Donovan and Shane Long!
