McGeady must be learning from Nakamura. Nice free kick off the bar after 30 seconds here:

Has Stokes ever impressed playing in deep role? He's bloody frustrating to watch. Put him up front!

How do you get any sound on TG4 on line?

Yeah, he played very poorly tonight.

Keane started for Spurs tonight behind Berbatov and Bent. He scored the first 2 goals, 1 a peno.

Connolly just scored for Sunderland.

It'll be interesting to see how Keane does in the next few months. Berbatov is the first name on the teamsheet and Jol didn't spend 16 million pounds on a bench warmer. This will be a test of his his character.

I reckon bent was signed with an eye on him being Berbatov's replacement. If Berbo has another savage season, they wont be able to hold onto him, whether they qualify for champions league or not. Keano's a better player than bent and defoe, he will prevail, ive no doubt about that

I can't see him having much problems if he's in this kind of form. He's the captain now that King is injured again.

Has Joey O'Brien recovered from injury yet? Physioroom.com says that he isn't injured but he hasn't featured in pre-season as far as I can see.

I forgot about Andy Reid until his name was mentioned in another thread. Just looked up Charlton's last pre-season game against Gillingham:
Pity he'll be playing Championship. Once he gets a run of form going he could be one of our best players.

Been on the bench a few times, but I don't think he's made an appearance yet

Stephen O'Halloran played well for Villa last night, got a good 75 mins. Looking fairly good for him at the moment.

As much as I hate to say it but does anyone think that Stan isn't getting enough credit for plucking someone like O'Halloran from obscurity and now he's beginning to look like the business...

On the flip-side you could also say its trial and error I suppose! :D

No, I think Stan is showing signs of improvement. The team is being set up better, results have been getting better, the introduction of younger players is moving along nicely. I hope it's not what they call a "dead cat bounce" in financial markets. i.e., even a dead cat falling from a roof will bounce up a couple of inches, but this bounce is hardly the start of an upward trend.

I still think that for every 2 things he does right he does something wrong, but credit should be given where it's due.

When he was added to the squad, everyone said it was because of Kevin McDonald. Which was probably true, but he doesn't pick the team, Stan does. He played well in the first game against Ecuador and got another promising run out against Bolivia.
But you do have a point, I think that Stan's mistakes that he made in the start of his career, and the results that came with it too, are hanging over him and every mis-step (not even misstakes) are blown out of proportion now.

Darron Gibson started for a Manchester United XI against Doncaster tonight. He hit the bar in the first half then scored in the second half. All the united fans are being hugely complementary of his performance tonight on redcafe.net, you might even say they are raving about him! Given that the game was all about Anderson's debut, it seems like young Darron has somewhat stole the show!

Line-up: Kuzsczak, Bardsley, Pique, Johnny Evans, Silveste, Sean Evans, GIBSON, Flethcer, Martin, Anderson, Campbell

The lad sean evans also got a goal, a cracker apparently. I wonder if he has a green granny??

Evans plays for the north and is supposed to be an excellant player by all accounts.

Thye are really getting excited about Darren Gibson in this website, he has his own thread. To quote one message

'I know he is untested at the highest level. But he reminds me a lot of Effenberg every time i see him in action. What made Effenberg great was the fact he had Scholes' vision + passing range plus shot, Carrick's game reading and Fletcher's grit and (in his early days) the work rate. Plus he could beat people. For me Gibson has all these qualities and similar size. I just hope he is given a chance in the first team and can consistently show those qualities at a higher level on a consistent basis. IMHO he is a top prospect.'

Lets pray Fergie gives him a chance to shine, and going by his interview after match he just well might

there's many messages in that thread from people who've watched him regularly and still have reservations about him though. I think everyone is agreed that he has the talent and ability however. Next 18 months are crucial for him. I think a loan to a good champo side (or maybe sunderland!) would be a good move. Too many players get to his stage of development at OT and then just tail off and stagnate

As regards the concerns raised by some on this board regarding the impact of Sven's spending spree on Stephen ireland's future at City, it seems all is well. He started again today against valencia. By the looks of it he played 'in the hole' as they say it.

City: Schmeichel, Richards, Onuoha (Jihai 62), Dunne, Garrido, Elano (Geovanni h-t), Johnson (Corradi 71), Fernandes (Hamann 71), Petrov, Ireland, Bianchi.

:D A young lad called Paul McGowan played on the right wing for Celtic and scored both their goals, any1 know of him or where he's from. Willie McStay reckons he's ear marked for the 1st team this season.

He was on loan in division 1 last season and made the team of the season, nominated for division 1 player of the year. He's Scottish though.

He is according to this: http://www.breakingnews.ie/sport/mhcwcwgbaucw/

Meanwhile, David Bevan from Grange made his debut for the Aston Villa first team last night in a 1-1 draw with Walsall.

Bevan, along with fellow Corkman Stephen O’Halloran, played the full game for Martin O’Neill’s side and both came in for praise after the game from the Villa boss.

Both are now set to be handed places in the first-team squad for the new season.
