Derry City are away in the first leg which will be some help. Get a draw or narrow defeat & sets it up for the next leg.Have we reversed the tie?
We were drawn home first.

Good question - have we reversed? I need to publish fixtures for Foyle Cup today and just did them assuming Brandywell would be free for games!

My mistake. Read news report incorrectly.

At least Drogs got an easy draw.
Should be 2 wins.
if Pats and Derry win at home at least then the coefficients wont be too bad.

Steve Bruce-you've seen Ventspils play and will probably soon see TNS play if you haven't already, so I'd be interested in your opinion on that one.
I haven't seen TNS play, but I would presume they are of similar calibre to Linfield.
I would say you have a good chance of going through.
They are a useful team but not earth shattering. If Linfield had of drawn them, I would be very confident.
I could tell you better next saturday after Linfield play TNS though.

Derry did really well last season, but I think their European juggernaut has just ground to a halt with this draw.
A new manager in time for the first leg might keep it respectable.

I think that draw is a decent draw for Derry, they should come through that tie quite comfortably. They will get hammered by Shakhtar if they go through but just to play them will give some much experience.
Drogheda, getting the easiest team in the hat, that is a easy win. See if they can out score the National Team in San Marino.
Pats have a game that could go any way, Shelbourne should have knocked them out last year in the Intertoto and Pats have a chance if they have some decent form.

Who are Drogs and Pats playing?
It hasn't been mentioned on the thread i don't think.

That is a not a reason for a hard game, those days are long gone.
In that case, Pyunik have a hard game.

It's not the ideal draw for Derry but at least they're from the capital of Armenia, which is a big advantage than going to bandit country, i.e. their equivalent of Louth or Monaghan! ;)
Derry should be able to beat them, though it's interesting to see that when they last qualified in the CL in 04/05 they went on to play Shaktar Donetsk!

derry got an ok tie, thats possible to win on there current from, if they pick up form id say they could, and i mean could possibly beat shaktar, pats i think got thoughest draw, OB are no push over so if they beat them theyll deserve it, and drogs got the easiest draw, SP Libertas are part timers on there first european adverture as far as i know so should be a win for drogs,
my predictions are.
derry scrap through by one or two goals,
pats to get knocked out,
and drogs to sail through.

Derry City have a tough one, that team has internationals in it so they must be decent enough, all depends on the home leg, they simply have to win it to progress
St Pats have the hardest one, again they need a good result at home
would i be correct in saying that if Pats somehow won then they would take Odense's high co effieicents??
Drogheda should win comfortably, 2 wins hopefully
Overall it is going to be hard to get 2/3, i dont expect it anyway

no, that only happens when the DRAW for the next round is held BEFORE the earlier round ties have been played - then they presume that the higher seeded team would go through & use their coefficiant
hope that makes sense

Good look to Derry if they get through to the 2nd round. Couldn't have got it any tougher.

I know the travelling will be difficult and all that but I doubt Pyunik are that much better than most of the other unseeded teams personally.
If they were that good they wouldn't be unseeded.
I think Derry would probably find it hard against a lot of unseeded sides the form they're on. I still expect them to go through though, they've still got most of the squad from last year's run and that's bound to mean something.

 Their team is mainly comprised of Armenian internationals- hardly world beaters. Derry should win both legs.

The Armenian national side has the same amount of points as Belgium in their qualifying group and have a game in hand .
They finished two points off Macedonia in qualifying for the last World Cup .
They finished 6 points ahead of Northern Ireland and 3 behind the Ukraine in qualifying for Euro 2004 .
They're a bit better than you might expect , as you said not World beaters but I wouldn't be that confident of an away win .
I fancy Derry to win at home and maybe get a draw or a 1 goal defeat away and go through .
Shakhtar will hammer the winner though .

We ****ed, odense fans are planning for their next round already. Couldnt have gotten a worse draw and with O neill and Ndo possibly out if be last nights team that plays (oddly had none of our new signings just a bit of passion) Can see us getting the "moral victory" ****e from this game.
**** it anyway im all booked and ready to go, just hope we stil marginally in it for the 2nd leg.

One of the happiest teams after this draw has to be Shelbourne. OK, so if they'd gone ahead and been accepted in the competition they may not have got the trip to Armenia, but one cannot help suspect there were a few relieved smiles at Tolka following that draw!

UEFA.com has both the Drogheda and Pats 1st leg ties scheduled for July 18th. However Ppats official website confirms that they are playing on Thursday July 19th. It would be great if they were on separate nights as some of us would like to see both games.
We playing home leg on 19th Thursday.

Well, Northern Ireland must be a really excellent team cause they are 2nd ahead of Spain.
Its an Armenian Team, they have 5 players that play currently in the squad but only 2 play in the First 11.

Steve Bruce, TNS won 3-0 at Dungannon tonight, so they might yet do OK against Ventspils.
Funny how BBC NI always covers these games (they did it last year for TNS/Rhyl's games in NI too) but when it comes to BBC Wales they can barely be arsed to type up a report on the European games.
Good stuff from BBC NI.

Lads,
just wondering - does cork win in the intertoto cup in the first qualifying round gives us any points towards our coefficient this year?
No, Intertwobob results don't count.

I'm certainly not writing off TNS's chances against Ventspills. I'm just saying I do not know the standard tns play at. It looked to be a convincing win against Dungannon, I hope TNS does well.
It would be nice to get all 3 Celtic teams through to the next round of the CL.

TNS got hammered last night by Glentoran. The jury is well and truely out about TNS. Again I'll reserve judgement until Saturday. If we hammer you like Glentoran, then I do not see much hope in TNS going past Ventspills.

TNS did play pretty well. The pace of your front men gave our aging defense a few problems.
Both teams should have scored more, but I think on reflection the Blues just shaded it.
However, not to take anything away from TNS. Linfield didn't set out with our best team as a few key players where either not risked or injured.
If TNS are going to get anything from Ventspills you will have to do all the work at home. I don't think TNS are quite as capable of Linfield(could be bias, but I seriously am trying to be open minded) but if you can win your home game, you have every chance. It is going to be tight.
