West Brom were linked with him in pre-season. With McShane gone (who mainly played at right full for the Baggies) it's probably them

That's good news. There's no doubt in my mind that Dunne and McShane are a capable CB partnership but as it stands if either of them gets injured or suspended we're pretty phuct. The only other viable options would be O'Shea and O'Dea. O'Shea doesn't play there enough and is known to make mistakes. A CB pairing of McShane and O'Dea would be very inexperienced but I think in the next few years O'Dea will provide stiff competition for a starting place. I know he's not everybody's favourite on here but O'Brien has served us well in the past and I put his bad performances for his last few games down to lack of match practice and poor cover from CMF. If he gets a regular game at Bolton then he would be half-decent back-up plus he has a wealth of experience playing CB at international level compared to the other options.

McShane should not be considered anywhere near untouchable. If O'Brien is playing some good football at Bolton, he should be able to play his way into the starting XI. McShane is OK but he has a lot to learn h

do ye reckon harte could be on his way to sunderland, considering no transfer fee involved. sunderland must have a serious amount of players on their books now.

I'd expect a top half championship side for Harte.
Although Sunderland are probably gonna snap him up.

I think a few of the bottom-half premiership clubs may take a gawk at him.
Derby, Fulham, Boro(linked in pre-season) and Sunderland.
But he'll probably stop off in Molineux if you ask me! ;)

Did he ever seriously have them Stutts? He was a bit like Liam Lawrence, talked himself up to get into a squad, then never did anything after it!

Didn't impress me much when I saw him.
Has a good physique for a target man, but I don't know if there's a brain in there.
His running was poor, and his use of the ball poor.
He made Heskey look world class FFS!

I read a piece Brian Kerr wrote after Folan was called into a squad, maybe for the Croke Park games (might be wrong there:confused:). He said he watched Folan at Leeds as an U18 and said he was nowhere near good enough for the Ireland U18 squad at the time.

Realistically, no. Alan Lee is probably better at what he does & he can't even get into the squad. I think that's because he speaks too posh though.

A bit harsh. He has a pehenomenal underage goalscoring record for Ireland and is still only a kid. Do you think this spells the death knell for his career?
Anyway, you'll upset youngirish :)

One-time Republic of Ireland squad member Caleb Folan's debut for Hull City ended in disaster when he wound up in hospital after clashing with an opposing player. The striker, who recently joined Hull for a club record of £1 million after Wigan boss sold him to make way for new signing Marcus Bent, was involved in a clash of heads with Blackpool defender Kaspars Gorkss in the Coca-Cola Championship match last night
