It's not realistic to ask someone to stop supporting a team after 20 years and switch alliegence, whether it's an English/Spanish/Scottish club or whatever. I've supported Liverpool as long as I've known what a football was, which is about 20 years now. There isn't a hope in hell that I would even consider NOT supporting them. They are engrained in me and I have as much passion for and connection to them as I do for Limerick.
I do not buy in to this EL fan bulls**t regarding English soccer/barstoolers/premiersh*t - it smacks of jealousy and eminates from a load of sad men frustrated with the state of Irish football (which is due to the incompetent knobheads that ran our game/clubs down through the years and that unfortunately by and large still run them). All our top players play in England, and thus English football has a huge Irish fan base. AND ALWAYS WILL, regardless of how much progress the EL makes, so get over it  Until the Irish domestic game get's itself in shape, it will continue to be like this. We're about 10/15 years away from having a decent league, infrastructurally anyway.
What is realistic is to assume and expect that a football fan would have an interest in supporting his local EL team as well as his overseas team, like most EL fans do. That should be the core area target (as well as young fans) for EL clubs. But it's all based on infrastructure and providing fans with proper football stadia and services.

Nobody is asking anybody to switch allegiance. If these football fans don't support their home team by now they'll hardly start at this stage. This is about taking some money from them so they get cool Liverpool, Man Utd, Arsenal scarves with their home town club on the other side so they can show them to their Liverpool, Man Utd and Arsenal buddies when they fork out all the money on their expensive habit of long-distance football support. If we make a few bob great. If they decide to come to the odd game even better. They can join all the other football supporters there who also support non-Irish teams. The sanctimonious clap-trap of some eL supporters is bloody annoying. They continue to stick their head in the sand and carp about Irish people supporting foreign football clubs. This carping just turns people off. Its best just to accept it, after all they are losing out on the joys of real live football - not us.:ball:

After the Election results I think you'll find that I no longer consider myself a citizen of this once great and now spineless country and shall do my utmost to ensure that I never again pay taxes to the D4 Criminals ;)

Show me a better alternative? Enda Kenny? Pat Rabbitte? The fact is that you can only vote for whats running, and sadly, practically the entire range of candidates sucked.
A lot of people asked themselves: A). Do I want to continue living under a regime where the economy is strong, but has a lot of cracks in certain key areas?...or B). Do I want to live under a regime of incompotent idiots, who I know are making false promises to get votes?
The majority went for A.
At least Adolf McDowell got the bullet.
