View Full Version : UCD in the League Cup
Tough game me thinks but I reckon County can pick up a result if everything goes right on the night. Know they bet us 4-0 and I wasn't there but was told we used 22 players in that game so not looking to much into that result. What do you all think?.

I fancy Kildare for this one. Our U21s are below strength, having loaned 4 players to Shels.

But our U-21s beat their U-21s 4-0 just a few weeks ago...?
98fm sports news saying that it is one of the ties of the round! along with Bohemians v Bray Wanderers. Hoping for a good game.
Pre season means nothing IMO.

I don't know yet but will post it up here once the word is out.

You'll increase the gate a good 1% if it's Tuesday. :)

Monday or Tuesday, by the way? We're playing Sligo that Sunday aren't we? We might want to at least pretend we're going to play a full team in the league cup and have it on the Tuesday.

Yeah, that's true. Tuesday it is so. Suits me. :)

Is this 2 days after the connemarathon? I may revise my predictions of a victory in the Pint to Pint challenge so.

I hear there might be "venue trouble" for this tie. Though it is from an extremely unreliable source who basically writes fiction about KCFC, so I'm assuming it ain't true.
I'll let the board know if we play it on a Tuesday the crowd will be 1% bigger! I'm sure they'll take that on board!
And tie of the round? Jeez.... two giants going head to head eh....

We're well used to playing away League Cup ties in Belfield if all comes to all.
Game set for April 16th at Station Road. Home fans should make a special effort to get down to this one, I'll leave you all to wonder why......

Why?
John Ryan's last game? New manager's first game?
New stand?

Seems to have a decent record but didn't play very much for Dundalk last year. Anybody know anymore about him?
If Ger Robinson plays on Sunday, it would be a boost. I'd play him with Amond and give Philly G a break

Wishfull thinking but No......no......
and No again.
Not totally sure if what I think is going too happen is but nearly sure and its not a bad thing its a good thing..........

Good news about Robinson, will have to see about Mc Ardle. He is a former Underage international as far as I can remember was with Derby County before moving back to Dundalk, was released in the july transfer window after not playing too much of a role at Oriel. Another midfielder though, we don't really have a lot of defenders at the moment.
And Nope not that either.

3-0 to us.
We've a strong team heading down, including five or six first-teamers who are out of the starting XI at the moment or who are just coming back from injury. I think (hope!) that would be too strong for a team like Kildare.

I wouldn't even begin to hazard a guess. On paper we should win but with players returning from injury and the low key nature of the tie who knows what might happen?

Can't end 0-0, obviously. Extra time and penalties on the day.

Well from what Ive heard UCD won on penalities.
All I can say is hard luck boys, we should be proud of the effort and we techically got a draw with a premier league side.

4-2, after an apparently tedious 0-0 draw.
Quigley saved the first two; Timmy Purcell, Conor Sammon, Conor Kenna and Greg Bolger scored for us, with Conan Byrne missing.

Wasn't too tedious. Was exciting in the second half, in a tense kind of way. Well done lads, put their all into it.

You must get awful shíte in the First Division if you thought that was exciting. Never been at a worse game or a game where you could be so certain that neither side would score.

It was exciting in a tense point of view as the second half went on.
See what I tell you, 0-0 never predict on penos bit of a lottery IMO. But having said that Quigley pulled off two decent saves, so hats off to him. Wasn't much in the way of chances and the lads did look dissappointed coming off.
Considering that there was only 4 regulars in last nights team I think the lads can be proud of themselves. Ryaner must have a bit of a selection headache for Saturday now.

Fair play to Kildare for having the student ticket price as low as €5, it's a fair price for League Cup 1st round.
As a matter of interest, how many seats does your stand have?
Only 4 regulars ? A decent performance in that case. Your 8 on the left wing and the 10 up front look decent. Are they regulars ?
No 10 is ger robinson, he is just back, think he is/was also in the Meath GAA panel. No 8 was Eoin Kavanagh has made a couple of sub appearances so far this season and done well. All in all I think County performed quiet well last night.

250 seats I think but could be 200 corprote area for i think 80.

The GAA reference makes sense - did you see that vignette in the second half when you wree on the attack but the ref gave us a free out ? the ball came at waist height to the 10 and he caught it, looked up and was on the verge of tapping it over the bar ! It was like watching a slimmed down verison of Corkery or Keaveney or someone !!

250 plus 80 in corporate area. Two temporary stands going in opposite the current stand soon (was meant to be this month, hopefully still is). That will increase our capacity by 700 I think.

€5 is the student price at all of our games, whether it's the League Cup or the League or FAI Cup.

I deserve a medal for looking through that match a second time! All 120 minutes!
I've distilled it down to a few highlights.
