The FAI are appealing the ruling today in switzerland rather than ignoring it like the finnish league. Seems an absolutely crazy rule what with stupid transfer windows and freedom of contract. Mr. Bosman has a lot to answer for.

I'd like to see Tony try a 3-5-2 something like this:
------------------------Rogers---------------------------
----------- Billy---------Wes--------Regi---------
-----Derek ---Murphs-----Foley-----Lester------Tracey
--------------- O'Flynn--------Armstrong---------------------

We'd be banking on Derek and Tracey doing a bit of defending but having the two big lads up front would make us dangerous on the break. I'm staying confident I'll go for a 0-1 United win. COME ON UNITED!

Some intrestings odds on Cork game
Utd to win 15/2
game to be draw 11/4
Utd to win half time / full time 14/1
1 nil win for utd is 14/1
2 nil win for utd is 40/1

personaly I think 1 nil is a great bet worth a small punt :)

it turns out that the FAI wont be meeting U.E.F.A about the 3 club rule till the 21st/22nd(next week) and a decision might not be made till the following week.so it looks like we will be without him for another 2 weeks at least.
this is more shoddy leadership being displayed by the FAI,they should have really pushed for a decision to be made this week or at least for a meeting(specifically about the rule) to take place.
more evidence for my vote of no-confidence in them.

i wouldnt be worried about training games id be more worried whose in Goals on friday. It has to be goughie and he should have started last friday. Its not that Dimitris was to blame for our performance but the players and fanS dont seem to have any confidence in him. Its a big call on Friday night as we need points on the board sooner rather than later.

I never expected Cork to be as desperate and act in such an underhand manner to win the match tonight...

I can handle them paying refs to make dodgy penalty decisions BUT
Poisoning Galway's water supply now that's a new all time low.

When Richie Winter is referee theres hardly a need for them to pay him off anyway:D :D !!

not counting the league cup win on new years day 96 when was the last time we won a league match down there?i cant remember, does anyone know?

16/03/2007, 10:27 AM
Richie winter has been a good ref in any of the games i have seen so maybe just maybe. Eamo it was 1993 2-1 herrick and jumbo and we only drew the League cup final 2nd leg 1-1.

thats a great result, worked unbelievably hard as well. Cousins sharp, lester gave it everything
despite Alan Kelly out to do us again with 5 minutes injury time. This guy has it in for us for years

Shocking match, a draw was a fair result. City were awful but it looks like its gonna be the same as always with away teams parking the bus in front of their goal this season. Well done and good luck!

A poor match but a very good (and deserved) point for Galway United. Lester was brilliant but I think Cooke, Foley and O'Brien played very well in the first half too. Up front I expect more from Armstrong in the next games.

16/03/2007, 9:57 PM
not kelly.but your right kelly does screw us alot.anyway tracey, foley, lester, charles, reji were all excellent.cork were poor though and we didnt exactly "park the bus" for the whole game either.murph had a great chance early on and with a few attacks it was only the final ball that was missing.we looked fitter then cork too which was great.
a decent if brief piece about the club on RTE before the match but roddy would do your head in.
just cant wait for next friday night.

Good performance from United tonight, the whole team seemed really determined to put last weeks results behind them. Tracey at the back i thought was very good. Cork aint up to much and i dont think they will be challenging for the league this year, their midfield was closed off and they had no plan b at all just to hoof it long from the back.

Terry
16/03/2007, 10:12 PM
Tracy did very well alright going down the wings, overlapping and stuff. Defensively I dont think that he was put under much pressure as he had the legs on everyone there and was constantly getting to the ball first. would be interesting to see him up against players that can match his speed. All we need now is get better balls up to the front line and score a goal or two and get our first win under our belt.

official.a few more battling away results like that and we will be ok i think.so much for o.donavan and his "we will crush galway" headline, the guy didnt do a tap except for getting flattened by goughie for a stone waller peno:D .

great result 2nite but lets not bury our heads in the sand after one goalless draw!foley put in an awful lot of effort and did great closin down the opposition, but watch the game again if u have it recorded, when in possesion i think he taught he was playin for cork,he gave the ball away way 2 much, cooke was anonymous.i thought goughie was excellent for a lad who just came out of retirement and the backline took alot of confidence in havin him behind them, but where are the goals goin to come from?we have a big target man who needs cross's to score and we have 2 wingers who can't cross the ball,i think derek played well and relieved alot of pressure with his long dribbles but why not try him on the right where he won't have to keep turnin back!a 2 year old could read thats he's going to do!

great result though!
fair play lad's!
and the supporter's sounded great on the telly!

Terry
17/03/2007, 8:00 AM
have to disagree about cookie, I thought he tried very hard but was that bit too light and was easily pushed of the ball when going forward. He was always tracking back also helping out James and not many croses came in from that wing all night.

the galway crowd sounded brilliant on t.v!louder than the cork city bunch!

A few things from last nights game. Winter is not a good ref but I wont persue that one as he certainly helped us out last night.

Geezer 5 mins injury time was fairly accurate 4/5 subs plus treatment to Goughie, Derek and one other player justified it.

I don't know how lads are disappointed we didnt score we went there for the draw and bar 2 serious shots on goal done little else to threaten Devine. Nobody pushed up to help the lone striker. Mind you O'Flynn seemed to add a bit of imputous to proceedings linking well with Derek and Murphs.

Cousins Showed his good management skills. I was behind the main stand as the teams came from the dressing rooms and saw Treacy and Goughie coming out togged. I knew from there on that this guy is not afraid to change things around and for some reason I knew we'd have at least a point going home.

The Cork lads had the individual skill but were no match for the shear determined United team.

What did they say on tv of the peno incident and the free out towards the end as gough was challenged?

Terry
17/03/2007, 9:40 AM
they said it was a definite penalty, which it was, and it was also a free out.

gilberto_eire
17/03/2007, 11:26 AM
lads it dont matter if kelly is ''out for us'' he doesnt decide the stoppage time or does nobdy realise that the ref indicates to 4th offical how much to show is added on
