Maybe it's a "don't want to botch the transfer" doubtful.
Maybe it's a "don't want to botch the transfer" doubtful.Indeed, could very well be a "gotta pass that medical" doubtful.

We'll give you Aaron McEniff for 250k
Excellent deal for everyone, nice money for cork and im sure roy will be getting a tasty pay rise too soon.
Good deal. I'm happy with it especially with the add ons
Just one question though...for the remainder of the season, Will city pay Roy his current weekly wage or will they pay him the wage Fulham are giving him or do Fulham pay all/some of his wages?

Great deal to be honest. Add that to the Bennet deal and cork have nearly payed off all those tax debts at this stage :p. Any chance of a lend guys?? But seriously, super negotiating skills shown by the Cork board there. Having him for the remainder of the season is a master stroke because if you remover Roy from the equation Cork are a mid table side with no goalscorer. He could single handedly win you the league

fantastic for roy. he's wanted a chance to prove himself at that level since he was a kid, im glad that its worked out for him and for the club, amicable and mutually beneficial.
i have to say, he's changed a fair bit since coming to city, he is stronger, more confident at winning the ball be it in the air or in a challenge, and most of all, he's managed to start finding the net the way he did in schoolboy soccer.
congrats to roy and here's hoping he's back here in the green sometime soon - mind you, he's got a few more months of banging them in before he goes anywhere! :D
Tony Bird didn't win it. He was scored like a billion goals but due t the "weighting" of leagues some good striker won it
Good luck to O'****ovan

season player club (country) goals
1996/97 Ronaldo FC Barcelona (Spain) 34 (68 pts)
Tony Bird Barry Town FC (Wales) 42
I don't think the weighting system is fair - there's so few goals in our league it should be O'Donovan and Quigley that get double points. He will surely score a hatful in the Premiership when he doesn't have to contend with the negative tactics here.

Tony Bird deserved it just for being Tony Bird. Is he still playing in Wales?

Returned for a brief spell with Carmarthen back in '05 when they played Longford, but didn't figure in the line-up in either game if I remember right.
Not sure where he is now, I think I heard he moved to Merthyr Tydfil after that but I assume he's retired by now.
He always was well-liked by the fans when he played at the Vetch.
Seems to be a very good deal considering the alternatives of losing him at the end of the season with basic compensation & no add-ons. If a deal was not done not would just be constant speculation surrounding his future for the remainder of the season which would not be good. €450k will now be the new starting figure for the next player to be sold.
City have really learnt from the Doyle situation & have performed very well in recent negotiations.
Very good deal by City & showing the lessons of the Doyle saga & the advantages of professional Management staff at the club.
Will be interesting to see how long it takes Roy O'Donovan to make it into the Ireland squad... Will he be eligible for August friendly as he will officially be a Fulham player?

Staunton will be waiting for him at Heathrow the second he sets foot on the tarmac. Kevin Doyle all over again......

That is the truth of it though, he wouldn't get a look in over here. Something seriously wrong with Irish football and dont let anyone tell you different
Breaking News:
Roy Keane & Sunderland have come in with late bid to match the Fulham deal. Keane has also said he doesn't have a problem loaning O'Donovan back to City for the remainder of the current season...

I'd say he should go to Fulham, Sunderland have 5 strikers (6 if you count Yorke) and though one would likely be sold, O'Donovan wouldn't get much time there. Fulham have McBride who is old and is really just a poacher so that leaves Collins John, Healy, and Kamara to fight with and I'd guess Collins John may be sold (he was nearly sold last year to Watford if I recall correctly)

Unless Sunderland offer more money I think Fulham would be best as Sanchez has been chasing him a while now whereas Keane seems to be acting on a whim.

I think Sunderland have probably made their offer now & have already spoken to O'Donovan.
I can never remember so much interest & official bids for an eL player in my lifetime. I feel the way is being paved or the first €1m eL player as every club is looking for the next Doyle. A lot of course will depend on how O'Donovan & other recent transfers perform.
Its hard to know if many players with Premiership potential in the league but certainly plenty of Championship standard.

Hope so but we're skeptical....well i am anyway. Only a few days left. We're hearing soundbites of looking to bring in 3-4 players but lets just say il be very pleasantly surprised if it happens :(
Unfortunately the rumour is now there may be a problem with Roy being loaned back under FAI rules so there may be no deal at all.....

From the buying clubs point its 800k regardless and with Quinny being the ELs godfather he would have no problems paying a million.
Some oddness on friday a mate was coming to the game from town and on the quays he met a cork lad with an bit of an english accent looking for what bus to get to richer, as they travelled to the game on the bus the guy said he was going to look at 2 players for Sunderland as he was their new irish scout Quigley and hopefully Roy if he came on.
Cheap bastid using the buses :D

Firstly Id take whichever offer is better financially for the club, then, if both were equal, Id leave it up to Roy.
Dont forget we could reject Sunderlands offer only for Roy to decide he really wants to go their and sign a pre-contract with them leaving us with nothing.......I cant see him doing that but he has the right to make the decision imo if the offers are the same

According to the Independent today there is a rule that if an EL player goes abroad then he can't be loaned back for at least 8 weeks. Can anyone confirm that?

I would guess the Indo have been sniffing around the Cork City forum & probably nicked the story from there.
I believe this rule also caught out Derek Coughlan about 5 years ago when he went on trial at Luton & when he came back could not play for City for 6-8 weeks.

I just read on eleven-a-side (http://www.eleven-a-side.com/eircomleague/irish_soccer_detail.asp?newsid=28701) that Roy's rejected Fulham so it's Sunderland all the way now. Looks like Cork will be stuck holding their money til November now.

(please submit your own Saipon joke here)In fairness Pete why on earth should Sunderland lend him back to Cork, particularly when its against EL rules? You can't have your cake and eat it!
Cork played a dangerous game letting O'Donovan get so close to the end of his contract, I hope it works out okay for you.
If he was a Derry player I'd take the money and run straight to the bank.
Can't believe Cork though they could just get him back on loan straight away. They've officially taken overr from pats as the worst club in ireland for registering players....

Just so long as we remember to register the post we should be okay though.

Its easy for other clubs to criticise as I don't see Premiership clubs queuing up to take their players away.
O'Donovan knew clubs queuing up so him so he would not sign a new contract.
Quinn & Keane talk a PR game about respecting eL clubs but they seem to be two faced & just looking out for number one. I am not surprised by this but they can't say in public that they won't be exploiting eL clubs & then in private do the opposite.
I don't believe O'Donovan will be sold if it cannot be guaranteed he can play for Cork City for the remainder of the season.

I don't believe O'Donovan will be sold if it cannot be guaranteed he can play for Cork City for the remainder of the season.Pigheadedness and financial suicide all mixed into one.
Lennox appears to generally be quite level headed financially (getting rid of Dolan being the prime example) so I'd be surprised if he took this option.
Unless O'Donovan knows the location of buried treasure, selling him now is surely the best option?
PS Of course Keane and Quinn are looking out for themselves. Their barstool extraordinaire investors clearly don't care about the EL.

The way I see it Cork have two options now: Cash in on O'Donovan now or wait til the end of the seson and take the €240k.
It's pretty clear the whole loan thing can't work out.

Bad for Cork if they are going to sell now. That will drive down the price as there's only one team he'll sign for.

All eL fans know this but the Dodgy-Duo were last week spinning the media the line that they not here to exploit the eL :(
I know rules are rules but I thought me signed up the FAI League so could remove such idiotic rules. Its very common for large clubs (e.g. Real Madrid) to buy young players but loan them back to their existing club for 12 months & they don't have to wait for 2 months.
I will reserve judgement on Sunderland saga for now but signs not good. Our chairman apparently had a public spat at Sunderland yesterday for speaking to O'Donovan before they received permission from CCFC. This may be legal as he in last 6 months of his contract (not sure about this as I thought was different for u-23 players) but again sharp practice after comments last week.
Its easy for other clubs to criticise as I don't see Premiership clubs queuing up to take their players away.
Worst argument ever put forward here? A bit defensive Pete?
I've no problem with ye selling your players, it was the ridiculous way you forgot to check the rules to see whether he could be loaned back to you
