how many more is the question.
A significant number I'd image, as we get a more realistic budget.

Yeah I expect a few more to go also...nothing on our site about it

nothing updated in ages.... Signing all three from Drogs last season in one go, and they're all gone elsewhere. Danny O'Connor moving to Rovers, i can somehow understand but as for the other two, what does Bray have to offer that we don't. I dont know but its looking a bit bleak unless the Polish guys Mathews has his eye on turn out to be useful.

It’s unlikely to stop at that either, there’s rumors’ concerning 2 or 3 others on the way out as well.
It’s looking like the Polish option might have to be a runner after all. More likely I’d say we’ll have a team made up of the best of the U21’s from last year and a couple of lads released from contracts elsewhere.

Gough and Cronin were poor offered us nothing, Bray can have them its no loss to us. As for Danny he was played out of position most of the season and looked lost when he was there. Good footballing head but no pace anymore, played best as centre half but we have 3 centre halfs better than him if we keep them IMO (Doc, Paiso and brennan). If we are to cut the wage bill these are the type of players that we need to let go, we need to try hang on to the sppine of the team and as far as i am concerned the 3 players that have left so far were not up to the standard.

It was always likely with the implosion of attendances, and the wage demands of players in the league. Not sure I'm entirely comfortable with bringing in yellow packs though. ;)

I’d say there’s no guarantee with anyone at the club Marty, including all of the above. If a reasonable offer came in for any of the lads on contract I’d say that would have to be considered to.

theres a rumour on another thread that now Pat Fenlon has quit Shels, Mathews may go there... it couldnt happen. could it?

Maz
05/12/2006, 4:31 PM
Im sure it could but would shels really be interested? Doubtful Id say

sparkey
08/12/2006, 11:57 AM
Don't think Matthews to Shels is a runner. With Fenlon citing the money problems at Shels as his reason for leaving, you could hardly see Matthews leaving his job in the bank or even taking a career break to go there unless Shels went back part time.

And leaving a sinking ship behind. The players leaving means that it doesnt matter who is the mngr next yr itl be relegation battle all the way. He wouldnt go when we want him to go and then when hes needed the most he decides to jump ship. COWARD!

FFS, make up your mind. The situation would be the same regardless of who the manager is. After that statement Sonic, I expect not a peep of the Matthews Out stuff next season if he stays. And I thought the solution to all our problems was Matthews going - Talk about damned if does, damned if he doesn't.

Are you going to be next season's Waterford? Are you actually in debt or are you just predicting that you can't carry on paying the same wages anymore? How the heck did you pay €10k for Robbie Martin?

I sure as hell hope not. :( If Mathews goes, will the Polish guys he's been thinking of signing still sign for us?

Longfordian
14/12/2006, 5:39 PM
It's about looking harder for value for money players. We have a bit of debt alright and paying over-inflated wages isnt going to help clear any of it plus you have to run the thing in a proper manner and not spend multiples of what you're bringing in. Bring it in first then spend it.

Thats not what im saying macy. You all think that the man is such a hero. Not that things are going bad where is our so called hero now. About to run off to the club he loves so much SHELS! And i hope he does go by the way. If you read my post carefully it says he wouldnt go when we wanted him to go now he is running when things get a bit tough thats what im saying.

On the Cork forum (http://corkcityfc.ie/forums/index.php?showtopic=15157), there's a score for Longford of 284 in the off-field stuff for next season. That's lower than anyone bar Shels. Longford's score is unrecorded anywhere else that I've seen, so don't know if it's accurate or not, but if so, it's be kind of worrying. Whatever about the fact that it's a stupid way to decide a new league, the process did seem to give some sort of indication as to how well or otherwise clubs were being run.

The words of wisdom I dealt you all at the tail end of last season when Digger , Dillon , Ferguson & co.. headed for Dublin as a result of "The Blaggard" Matthews underhanded ways has finally come back to bite you were it hurts...After you all backing Matthews up for ridding the club of loyal servants those of whom had great success with The Town..The coward is jumping ship..He tried to add his own blend gettin rid of the loyal players and bringing in the wanderers of the Eircom League...I feel sad for the Town as they are a brilliant club..but I am delighted that Alan Matthews has been exposed at last..New gaffer I suggest should be The Digger..who knows what the club is all about and would be able to keep the spirit in the camp..

I was told it was higher than that (well the person that told me named an overall figure that meant over 300 points off the field) but I haven't seen the actual results so I can't say for sure

It was well documented that Digger and Matthews didn't get on, but given his "success" at Bohs, maybe no bad thing. Dillon and Ferguson left for full time football, Ferguson practically hounded out by very much the same people who have been anti Matthews even during our record seasons.

To be fair Macy..you can only be as good as the players in front of you...and in Bohs case that was not very good so have to give credit where it's due..seen plenty of games and they's have lost well more if Digs wasn't in between the sticks..What I find curious was that Matthew's managed to turn the supporters against Digger in the end after him doing so much for the club..on just one muppet's word digger's time at the club came to an abrupt end..In my opinion Matthew's was afraid for his job..I remember Digger actually invited one of the forum lad's to meet him after that Pat's game to get his point across and your man bottled it..Let's say I know the ins and outs from both ends of the stick and the Longfordian remains oblivious to it all even though he know's deep sown how much of a backstabber Matthew's is..!!
Short memories you country lad's ..!!
Big struggle next year to be fair..all down to that Muppet and his poilicies..!!
By the way I play LSL Senior football and know quite a few of Matthew's victims extremely well..

obwon
18/12/2006, 10:34 AM
Macy not aiming anything at Barry..it's bohs as a team and the supporter's are animals so you can imagine how hard it was for both lads to adjust in such a hostile atmosphere considering the family like atmosphere which existed in Flancare..You can only measure the success of a player by a team's overall performance hence mocking your original post stating that you were right to rid the town of digger..!!

Macy
18/12/2006, 11:55 AM
Digger walked - only surprise was that it was to another team, not retirement as was thought. I do like Digger - nothing but a gent when I've had dealings with him, and a great town player - that however, doesn't disguise the fact that Bohs fans considered him a weak link in a weak team.

I wouldn't say I was oblivious to it at all, I know full well Alan Mathews isn't all sweetness and light, but there's two sides to every argument also. Digger I don't know very well but I have met him a few times. Seems like a decent fella and I don't remember ever badmouthing him in any way.Certainly I'll never forget what he did for LTFC. Arguing on here is a waste of energy. That some of his ex players don't like him isn't terribly surprising to bew honest. He was "apprenticed" to Keely ffs!! Plenty of players have come to the club because of him as I'm sure some have left due to him as you say. He certainly has his good and bad points but his record holds up pretty well.

Wexler played in the last game of the season against St Pats and put in a good performance that day.
