Assuming we beat Derry on Friday night, which I have no doubt whatsoever we will, does anyone seriously think we stand a chance of winning the final? I mean our away form is so absolutely dire and the final will after all be an 'away' game seeing as it's in Dublin. I'm not writing City off, I'm just a fan who's EXTREMELY concerned.
City fans should hope that Bohs get to the cup final as well. it looks like they will win the league. if so, it means we qualify for the UEFA cup.

To hell with Bohs and a European place by default. What about the glory of beating Cup specialists Shamrock Rovers in the Final and just wanting to WIN some damn silverware for once? After all the Dublin clubs win more than their fair share.
Murphy Out Now!!!
Cup Specialists! When last did they win anything???
Im quite concerned about friday unfortunatley. Derry are on a roll and so are we. Unfortunatley our roll is of losses (pure word play buzz, some lagner me biy). On the other hand, we owe to give someone a beating.
I just hope that there is a result on Friday night one way or the other, because I really cant afford Derry.
2-1 City.

A cup final is never really a home or away game. You have laods of your own fans there at the match and the athmosphere is all together different. Sure Bohs lost a replay at their home ground in the Final a few years back against Shels.

Me too, a replay in Derry on a Thursday night would be a nightmare. That said, I dunno if I could miss out on a semi-final.:)
Unfortunatly though, im not that confident that we will even get a replay. Derry are going well, we're not and I reckon that confidence must be very low among the City squad. If we lose on friday, our season is effectivley over because we've got a mountain to climb in the league.:(
One match at a time lads.
We should all be able to forget our away form woes & enjoy what should be a sold out at the cross for the first time in years (anyone know last time a home semi for city?).
Whatever happens the game shouldn't be short of drama

The last semi final in the Cross was a Wednesday afternoon replay against St. Pats in 92 I think.
We won 1-0 in front of a massive crowd. Lets hope for more of the same this time round.

I think city fans have outsung the home support at most of our away games this season, exceptions being Pats and perhaps Longford. So i would discount support having anything to do with the "away" demons

Who won the cup last season?
A certain team playing their football in the First Division this season.
League form counts for little in the Cup Final.
Lets get to the final first though.

True, but away form does count, and our away form in the cup consists of scraping 2 draws against first division clubs :(

exactly. everyone will be away. everyone includes us, and our away form is what concerns me
The final is on in Tolka, which is where Rovers play their home games at present. Thus, if its us v Rovers in the final they will be at home and we will be AWAY !:(

Lets be fair to Dundalk though, they certainly were not in relegation form. They started the season disasterously and finished it in championship form. was it 11 wins in 13 or 9 in 11 or something??
If, we lose Friday, the seaon IS NOT over. Its only a third old. 11 points isnt that much, ask any Newcastle fan!!!
Still though, Gunther Raus!!!!

I know that FULL WELL. But, just try telling that to a team whose entire psychology away from home seems to be geared towards failure AND massive underachievement.

Yeah, we´ll still have half-decent shout of winning the munster senior cup, so gunther can continue his record of winning trophies  :D
p.s. Newcastle? Where do they play, in the Limerick district league or what? Or are you bringing up foreign football ;) :D

Nice piece of sarcasm, Eanna. Just proves the point that Cork soccer is absolutely devoid of ambition and honesty among those who matter. It's high time someone, anyone, blew a few holes in this ridiculous defence of Gunther's.

I wouldn´t go that far. Lennox would appear to have a lot of ambition and I guess he has to give Murphy a chance too. I think we´ll really see whether people mean what they´ve said when this season´s over.

Lennox and exactly how many more with him? Exactly ZERO is the answer. Secondly, Gunther had his chance....LAST SEASON and he made an absolute BALLS of it.

That doesn´t particularly matter now, seeing as Lennox is the man in total charge of things. If he wants to change things and has the drive and determination to see it through- which I believe and hope he does- then all others are irrelevant.

This is probably the closest thing ever to me defending the "·$% but I can understand Lennox´s decision to give him this season. Ok, he should have gone last year, we all know that, but he did bring in a lot of players in the summer, and if Lennox´s thinking was " ok he´s trying to build his own team, he deserves the chance to see that through" than I can understand it. I mean, he inherited a team previously which he had to deal with. This season it´s HIS team, his responsibility, and it will be his own sword he which he falls on

Fair point. But, what's the f***in use in him bringing in players or even being left in charge when he's TOTALLY incapable of getting them to play away from home? One point away so far is surely our worst ever performance away from the X. The way I see it, a season that promised the Sun, Moon and Stars is going to end up in the gutter. Let's cut our losses and throw Gunther down on that sword now.

I think we should see how it goes on friday night. The least he deserves is the chance to have a cup final. The cup should be his farewell either way. It´s a team he built and he deserves that chance.

Gunther deserves absolutely F***ALL from a club and a support he tortured SO badly all last season. He'll get his shot at a Cup Final alright, but as I said when I began this thread, our away form has as good as assured our defeat already.

This has to be the first time Eanna has ever been in an argument where he's the one kinda defending Gunther.;)
