Lads anyone know anything about fellas receving phonecalls inviting them to training with the Oscar traynor panel.
Has there been a management team put in place or dare I say it has a club or group of individuals taken it on themselves to get the ball rolling.

I was told that Rob Mc Sherry, former Oscar Traynor Manager and current Bunratty manager is to be involved, not sure if he will hold the managers position but we'll have to wait and see. I'd say it will be the same old faces on the panal again this year.

As far as I know Eddie Corry has taken the job and Hughie Kelly is doing a bit of player spotting for him.

Just wondering who would have the most appearances for Clare.
I'd say Brendy Mackell for newtown has to be up there and Mannix for the Avenue.

That they were....I was told a story about the Oscar Traynor a good few years ago.Frank Healy was the manager, he used to go around with a note pad and pen before the match, he would speak to all the players individually.
He wasn't talking about the game or tactics or anything, He was asking the players what they were drinking after the game.:D

There is great money in weather glaze, surely you are not suggesting that the steaks were been paid for by the league.
Anyway there is so many of them they would nearly have to bring thier own fatted calf. And anyone that ever played against them would swear they would eat in raw.:D Saying that they were a decent bunch to have a pint with after a game.

Guys can just say if these stories are true then I say fair play to them at least they got something for all the work they and their dad did for the clare league, people sometimes forget these people,When the Clare team won the oscar traynor a few years a go half the team didn't show up for the meal in the Clare inn where they were being offered a free pint to accompany there meal,I remember seeing at least 8 in the cusack stand drinking away for free,a couple of free ones from cusacks and whoever was there bought them pints,I think they spent about 20 mins in the clare inn before returning to either cusacks or town, as for the old Oscar Traynor they just showed up played there game and went home,no training ,no team meeting no interest

Frank Healy was the driving force behind Doora and had the foresight to choose the site start the developement. He had much grander plans than are there now but his plans were shelved as being too grande and palatial.

Do the Managers of this years team not think that they should
publish the panel in the local papers or what. It would be nice to
see what the squad for this years Oscar Traynor is. Does anyone
have the power of getting the panel?

I think it a bit strange that Greg Deegan, who has been one of the best players in the league over the past 10 years but never got a sniff of a call up for Clare. As soon as he leaves the Bridge he gets a call straight away??

oscar traynor has always been a bit strange on selection of players
managers usually seem to pick same players every year with a few new faces.. find it hard to understand why list of players has not been released to clare people / clare champion.. i would assume clubs have at least been contacted and told who they are looking for

Did anyone hear the squad yet??
There isn't much interest it seems again this year.
Nothing about it in the Clare People this week not even the squad of players.
Surely the management should get this published and try to get a bit of interest going and maybe a bit of support might arrive to the games.

in fairness i dont think the team will be up to much this year..even though i will be hoping they do well..any team that can only get 9 players training and missing players like jocks, davy wall and pa fahy..but to name a few..wont go too far in this competition..

TBH there should be better information/promotion for this competition as it is inter county soccer and players are representing their county.Nobody even knows that this Oscar Traynor thing is even on. I only know that it is on because i play soccer. Thing is that the Clare league should have made the Oscar Traynor win a few years back a big thing in Clare and promote it much better. As i said nobody knows it is on.

Thats only one player. My point is a number of "flare" players don't have the answers when they are subject to aggressive play in league games. Surely the oscar traynor is a step up in physicality again.

I can see what you are saying but I dont agree with you. I'm sure it is slightly more physical at OT level but I think there are 3/4 players in the squad who can mix it and that is enough.

I think adding any more players just cos they can "put the boot in" would weaken the squad, not improve it.

Just my opinion.

Hacker,
The way you put it you are making it out that someone has been hard done by. I think you , better than most, should understand the full story here.
Before anyone asks , no I will not be elaborating on the situation.

what do ya think of this..player gets asked to go training by eddie corry..goes to all wednesday sessions and the friday session that was on..is 1 of 15 players that goes to waterford for 1st game..STARTS and plays 70 mins..is told afterwards that he has done well..goes to next 2 sessions wit 9 players at both..then gets a call from eddie last friday to say thanks for helping us out but your not needed anymore.when asked why? eddie said he was told by SOMEONE he had to cut his squad down.looks to be only player cut from squad..so my points are..

1) who really picks team if manager is told to cut squad
2) how do you go from being in first 11 to being out of the squad
3) since when has squad been set to 20 players
4) how can people expect other players to respect a manager that does this
5) why have 3 oscar traynor friendlies been organised for same nites as 95% of clubs train..i.e. tuesdays and thursdays..
6)if a player tells manager that he wil not play this year.and goes to no training and then brings gear to 1st match and gets a game..even though he is a great player..is this right ???

before anyone has a go at me this is just my view..i happen to have great time for eddie corry and mikey burns..i just think that at the moment its a shambles...eddie apparently has a scout(hugh kelly) to watch players and tell eddie...but yet turns up to training and gives orders.. i hope they do well on sunday but wit 9 lads training and only 14 turning up for matches..it doesn't look good..
i looks tough on player ... but as far as i know can oscar traynor manager name a new squad for every match or add players if he wants to / or has he to stick to they same 20 players ...
same thing happens at local clubs players may play 2-3 games not miss training and their manager could still drop them
does it not make sense to have friendlies on same nights as players would normally train.. i know i would prefer it that way..

i would agree on last point if you cant / wont train with oscar traynor no matter how good you are you should not get a game at the expense of somebody how has been training

Is this the same player that got dropped for his club recently.
SURELY if he is not getting a game with his club he wouldn't be up to Oscar Traynor. Maybe Slim Fitzgerald could take his place on the Oscar Traynor squad aswell:D

As I have said there will not be a full story on this thread. At least not from me.! Rather than sending a PM to Hacker I just wanted him to know that there are others that know the full story. Having people posting their view of the matter and asking people what they think without the full facts is bull****. I have no time for people that take their blinkered view of the matter into an open forum questioning the integrity of a man's decision without the other side of the story been known.

Smellyfeet,
You have hit the nail on the head there. Hacker get your own club in order before you try and sort the "shambles" that you are making the Oscar Traynor set up to be.

smellyfeet
16/11/2006, 12:41 PM
i never said i wanted to sort out the oscor traynor shambles i just gave my opinion on it..i would like you to send me a pm and explain why you think he was dropped..the reason he was dropped from olympic last week was a totally different reason and you can ask him that yourself..as for olympic being in a shambles i dont know how you can say that wit only 7 games gone..its a long season and if your to give up now , theres no point in turning up anymore..anyway i didnt post to talk about olympic if i heard it happen a player from another club i'd have same view on it about the way it was handled....

Well he was dropped and thats that...Surely they have their reasons for dropping him as you have yours. Don't see them asking questions on here about why he was dropped from Olympic and asking peoples opinion:rolleyes:
