when is the draw???

Friday, not sure what time. I dont think it makes much of a difference as to what teams we get we always seem to make life hard for ourselves regardless of who we are playing eg, Switzerland & Russia group when we were the top seeds

just a thought but our next manager may hinge massively on who we are drawn against! i mean if we get a group like the scots got last time out then most established bosses wouldn't touch us with a barge pole!
or am i being over negative??

Did you see the Italians trying to defend from Scotlands corner kicks? Germans beaten 3-0 at home by the Czechs a few weeks back. Holland winning 1-0 at home against Luxemborg. Portugal must win their last game to qualify. Lets not worry about who we draw as there is no way of telling how good or bad a eam is going to be until we actually get to play them. Sometimes the "big" names have to rebuild. Somtimes the so called minnows or mid-ranking teams find 2 or 3 great players and step up a gear. So lets just worry about ourselves. Get the right manager and stop leaking goals. Look at the groups we qualified from for WC90/94 and 02.

and those we didn't for the last 3 campaigns!
all i'm saying is it may make the job seem less attractive (and ultimately damaging to a managers stock) if the draw on paper seems like a mamouth task. i am fully aware of the pitfalls and unexpected turns of fortune that effect various teams.

If there is to be one thing that I would hope Ireland do not manage is that they dont get many eastern european countries in there group as bad as some of the away games have been against the teams from western europe or eastern europen record is pretty much a shambles.

In fairness, the Swedes had just been awarded a penalty so you'd expect they'd have won 4-3.
good point Stutts I had forgotten about that.

I hope we get a really tough group this time. Getting easy group the last 3 campaigns(04 EC, 06 WC, 08 EC) certainly didnt work out well.

06 was far from easy. France, Switzerland and Israel were amongst the toughest teams we could have faced.

am i right in calculating that playing those two pointless friendlies in america, and only drawing with wales on saturday has cost us in the region of 150 points and a place amongst the second seeds?
744 points as it is
896 points in my idealised scenario above

Obviously it is entirely unofficial, and the author doesn't claim complete reliability, but can this guy be correct in his calculation of the latest Seeding positions?
As you may imagine, I wouldn't be too disappointed to have them confirmed ;)

Bring on the nordies !Not only should there be points at stake, but maybe also an honourable duel to determine player eligibility. Sovereignty even? That'd add spice to a last game of the campaign dead-rubber.

Practically all of those teams bar Greece have caused us problems in the quite recent past.
N.Ireland - Almost stopped us qualifying for USA 94 in the infamous game in Belfast in 1993. Drew in Dublin in 1995.
Macedonia - Last gasp goal stopped our automatic qualification for Euro 2000
Liechenstein - A disasterous draw in 1995 began a major slump in form which ultimately resulted in missing out on Euro 96.
San Marino - Fresh in everyones memory.

And won in Dublin on the last occasions we met, courtesy of a "Thirty Yard Tackle" from outside the box by Super Danny Griffin.
Funny how yis all seem to forget that one ;)
P.S. I keep saying it, but do not make the mistake of underestimating Liechtenstein; their present team is their best ever, with Super Mario Frick their "David Healy of the Alps"!

Just for the curiosity I put an excel together. I come out with 740 for Ireland after the Wales match. 3 points different to that site. EalingGreen, if you're as sad as me you could do the same for Northern Ireland and work out their ranking. It's only a couple of days wait anyway.
Anyway, here's the file for anyone that wants to see how the points are calculated:
