0-0 Mount v St Mochta's. Horrible conditions, terrible pitch, Mount just couldn't bag one, under no pressure at the back at all.

Don't know when replay will be.

Don't know when replay will be.

Only real chance of the game fell to Mochta's, Rockmount settled first and won a few corners but never really threatened.

Mochta's got into stride but were too defensive minded revert to 532 at times giving the space to the visitors.

Poor game overall and Rockmont with an extra man for last 15 didn't take advantage.

Earlier Cherry Orchard accounted for Dublin Bus 2-0

Mayfield had a great 1-0 win against Glebe North and will play the holders in the next round, should be a cracker.

OK, amazing how view's differ eh. Saw it completely different.

What about Mount pen claim in last few mins that ref said he got wrong after the game?

Saw what completely different? Did 'Mount have any direct shot(s) on goal?

As for the nonsense of a penalty claim -it wasn't even a foul. The player dived and the alleged offender was smart enough to not even try and attempt a tackle. Plus it was outside the area. I was within five yards of the incident and am a neutral and watching with a very experienced ref and immediately we both commended the ref in getting it right.

I'd be exceptionally surprised if the ref said he erred.

As for the claim of a poor pitch, yes it was soft but it held up and didn't stop either side from playing it on the ground.

Yeah, he said it to me at the end he felt he had got it wrong. No harm done.

We're used to better surfaces in Cork, but of course there is nothing anyone can do about the weather.

I was quite happy with the chances created, on another day we'd have killed one or two of them, Beech's header and Cliffy's chance alone would regularly go in, but there ya go. Their keeper had 3/4 saves to make as well.

4-2 on pens actually. Mount pounded the life out of Mochta's who unbelievably held on to win in the lottery that is pens, hat's off to them for 2 gutsy display's. Well done to their hardy bunch of support who joined them today. Nice bunch to be honest, on both days.

Alright folks, just wondering what Douglas Hall are like? we play them next week, so should we expect a tough game from them?

Clifford
26/01/2007, 8:13 AM
Douglas Hall are strong this year, they poached a few players from some of the better clubs during the close season and are gelling together quite well. Their league form isn't great, but that would be no indication really with the lack of games being played etc.

Tough game for your boys indeed I'd imagine.

Mayfield Utd 0-1 Avondale Utd.

Holders safely through today, scrappy game, not a whole lot of chances, Spratty settled it with about 25 left. Mayfield pushed on late but never really threatened. Spratty should have settled it with a 1-1 chance but 1 was enough.

The rest of the results went as follows

Kildrum Tigers FC 3-2 Douglas Hall FC
Celbridge Town AFC 1-2 College Corinthians FC
Tolka Rovers FC 2-0 Crumlin United FC
Belgrove FC 0-2 Bangor Celtic FC
Drogheda Town FC 0-2 Phoenix FC

Soccer – FAI Intermediate Cup

'The Den' Proves Too Much For Douglas Hall

Kildrum Tigers………3
Douglas Hall…………2

Report by Chris McNulty

Fortress Station Road Park proved a bridge too for Douglas Hall as
Kildrum continued their magnificent run of form on home soil yesterday
afternoon with Raymond McDaid's men overcoming the Cork men to progress to
the Quarter Finals of the FAI Intermediate Cup.
The Tigers have suffered only one defeat at 'The Den' in almost five
seasons (and two in seven seasons) and yesterday afternoon an enthralling encounter saw goals
from Keith Hegarty, Gareth Mullen and Paul Lynch keep their proud record going.
It was certainly a classic cup tie by the banks of the Foyle that saw
the Ulster Senior League side come back from a nervous start to book
their place in the last eight for the first time in their history.
The first 12 minutes saw Douglas Hall settle quickest, but from their
first attack in the 13th minute the home side broke the deadlock, much
to the delight of the sizeable home support.
Mark Callaghan fed Ronan Coyle with a ball down the left flank and his
ball across the box was eventually cleared to the feet of Keith
Hegarty and the midfielder needed no second invitation in firing the
ball beyond the helpless Adrian O'Donovan.
Thereafter, Kildrum settled into the contest and after a period of
end-to-end action goalkeeper John Roulstone came to the rescue of
Kildrum.
David Wogan adjudged an infringement to have taken place inside the
box and pointed to the penalty spot, but Keith Stanton's spot-kick was
well beaten out by Roulstone who got down well to his right side.
Five minutes into the second half, the visitors got back on level
terms when Brendan O'Connell was allowed space inside the area to
blast home from close range.
Kildrum thought they had got back in front immediately when Ronan
Coyle nodded home at the back post only for the referee to rule the
effort out on the strength of a flag from his linesman.
After Rousltone denied Douglas Hall a certain second with a fine stop
from Ian Cullinane, the home side edged in front with a goal that was
as good as has been seen at the venue for quite some time.
Glen Bovaird's teasing corner was beaten clear by the Douglas Hall
defence but the clearance only fell to the feet of Gareth Mullen. The
flame-haired attacker connected superbly to drive a 20-yard volley
bullet-like to the onion bag.
Within five minutes, the home support were in raptures again as Paul
Lynch connected with a Dermot Kelly into the box to knock home number
three from close range.
Tempers then began to fray and after a collision in the middle of the
park Kildrum's Keith Hegarty and Douglas Hall's Seamus Long both saw
red cards for their parts in the scrap.
With three minutes remaining John Healy was forced to don the gloves
when Douglas Hall's goalkeeper Aidrian O'Donovan was dismissed for a
lunge on Ronan Coyle outside the box when the ace marksman was played
through by Tommy McDonald.
In the closing stages, it was edge of the seat stuff, particularly
when substitute John McCarthy headed in a second Douglas Hall goal.
Soon afterwards, David Wogan sounded the final whistle and the home
support sounded a massive roar of approval and they now look forward
to quarter final tie with opponents expected to be confirmed this
week.
Best for the home side was right-back Dermot Kelly who was a constant
threat throughout while honourable mention must go to goalkeeper John
Roulstone. The young Raphoe stopper made two very crucial saves, denying Douglas Hall an
equaliser with a 39th minute penalty save and then pulling off a fine block from Cullinane
when the tie was delicately poised at 1-1.
They had their chances for a fourth strike too, with Garrett Callaghan denied by a defender after rounding the goalkeeper and Healy coming out to thwrat the efforts of Coyle after he went on a solo-run from the tip-off from Douglas Hall's late goal.
The Tigers roar on and now look forward to a quarter-final tie that will take place on the first weekend in March

Avondale look to be a fine side - 5-1 yesterday against Cherry Orchard is some result!!

Kildrum showed their worth yesterday with a 2-0 win over Corinthians - margin of victory really should have been more to be honest

Sets up a cracking game in the semi-final on April 1st.

Soccer - FAI Intermediate Cup Semi Final

Disappointing cup exit for Kildrum

Kildrum Tigers……..0
Avondale United……1

Report by Chris McNulty
Photos by Donna McBride

Kildrum Tigers quest for glory in the FAI Intermediate Cup is over after the St Johnston based side went down to a disappointing one-nil defeat against ten-man Avondale United yesterday afternoon.
A 38th minute strike from Derek McCarthy was all that separated the sides at the conclusion leaving the big home support at Station Road departing a down hearted bunch.
Their side, however, simply didn’t do themselves justice yesterday afternoon with Avondale playing comfortably throughout, even after the 26th minute dismissal of David Spratt for lashing out at Dermot Kelly.
The loss of Ronan Coyle before half time through an injury sustained following a bad challenge by Avondale midfielder John Cotter didn’t help Kildrum’s cause as the absence of the striker was certainly evident with the home side lacking any real potency in attack thereafter.
Coyle had Kildrum’s best effort of the game cleared off the line on the quarter-hour mark. Latching onto a neat through ball from Keith Hegarty, Coyle lifted the deftest of efforts over the Avondale ‘keeper but, just as the Station Road crowd was about to celebrate, Noel Hartigan got back to hook his effort off the goal-line.
The Tigers entered the clash without the services of Garrett Callaghan who had netted the clinching second goal in their 2-0 win in the last round against College Corinthians. The former Finn Harps man was ruled out due to a troublesome ankle injury.
His place on the right flank was taken by Keith Hegarty with David Craig starting wide left.
After Coyle’s chance and after a couple of neat early touches from last season’s top scorer, the Cork side sensed danger was ahead, but John Cotter put an end to his participation with a high challenge that saw the ex Cork City man booked.
Avondale, too, had an early chance with David Spratt’s shot well held by John Roulstone after he pounced on a poor clearance from Paul Callaghan.
Spratt’s evening was to be a short one however, as he was red carded by referee Stephen Toner on 26minutes when the match official spotted his hit on Kildrum’s Dermot Kelly.
However, the dismissal seemed to inspire the Cork representatives and just 12minutes later they got their noses in front with a goal that the Kildrum defence won’t want to see in a hurry.
Paul Callaghan’s weak headed clearance fell to the right boot of Derek McCarthy and he lobbed the back peddling John Roulstone to give the Intermediate Cup holders the lead.
On the hour mark, a corner kick from Eoghan Lougheed clipped the crossbar and Dermot Kelly did well to clear the danger while McCarthy was denied from grabbing his second when Roulstone saved at his near post.
Kildrum sent on Brian Coll with 20minutes remaining and the left flanker drew a superb save from Kieran Barry Buckley within minutes of his introduction when he forced the Avondale ‘keeper into tipping his left-footed effort over the crossbar.
Kildrum through big Paul Lynch into the attack late on as the home side reverted to a three-man defence, but it just wasn’t to be for Raymond McDaid’s men with Tommy McDonald denied by Barry Buckley from drawing Kildrum level.
So, for the third year in succession Avondale have triumphed in Donegal and they now progress to the final where they will be hoping to defend the trophy they won last season.
For Kildrum, there was huge disappointment as they make their exit from the competition. Their cup exploits will continue however as they await the draw for the first round of the FAI Ford Senior Cup which takes place on Wednesday night next in Dublin.

Kildrum Tigers: John Roulstone; Dermot Kelly, Mark Callaghan, Paul Callaghan (Ronan McDaid `88), Paul Lynch; Glen Bovaird, Russell Porter, Keith Hegarty, David Craig (Brian Coll `70); Ronan Coyle (Tommy McDonald `40), Gareth Mullen.

Avondale United: Kieran Barry Buckley; Barry O’Sullivan, Eoghan Lougheed, Thomas Hughes, Noel Hartigan; John Cotter (Ken Bruton `86), Tony Tynan (Chris O’Shea `81), Robert Giltinan, Robert O’Mahoney; Derek McCarthy, David Spratt.

He was injured yesterday.

Razor - was just going with the match card so that's where that came from. Have to say Avondale were a great bunch of lads, stopped for a couple of pints after the match and not a bother with them. There was a good crowd up from Cork as well.

Very disappointing from our point of view. We really didn't do ourselves justice at all. Avondale coped very well with the sending off and looked comfortable in teh second half - definitely deserved teh win and I've no complaints other than we should have given it a better go.

Fair play Avondale and good luck in the final.

To Harps Kid, shame you did'nt make it, as a distant observer of Irish soccer at this level always prefer to see non-major city clubs do well. Well at least you qualify for FAI Cup. Wish you well for Rnd 1, and a ultimate draw in Rnd 2, would it be the short drive through Carrigans to Lone Moor Road, or via Letterkenny to Ballybofey(think the badge may give it away)-well done.
2 questions if anyone can help. 1. Is it lack of Connaught Senior League that prevents Connaught clubs entering Intermdte Cup coz some of the grounds I have seen on my travels through Ireland thought they would qualify as Intermediate level ? 2. RE ULSTER SENIOR LEAGUE- Does anyone have details of Champions, Runners UP, since league's incepton in 86/87 or 87/88. Know Fanad have won 11 times (including 9 in a row). Believe Buncranna Hearts won it in 91/92 and Letterkenny Rvrs 04/05. Assume (but dangrous to do) Fanad's 9 in a row was 92/93-00/01. Believe they may have been inaugral champions (86/87 or 87/88) thus leaving 1 other title to pin down along with blank seasons. If correct Derry City rsrvs runn/up 95/96. Did it involve Cavan/Monaghan clubs when first began ? Appreciate any help

harpskid

Finn Harps Reserves won it in 1998/99 and indeed won the league with a 100% record. Kildrum Tigers collected the title in 2003/04 and Quigley's Point Swifts won it in 2002/03.

As regards the senior cup - it would be the trip through Carrigans, up the Lone Moor Road I suspect. Brandywell would be closer to us, so I imagine would be the favoured option.
