Why aren't we planning on running a bus? Was the one earlier in the season not a success? We should at least advertise it and see if we get enough response to warrant running it.

Who said we aren't? I'd certainly be interested.

Programme said next one would be Drogheda.

Programme said "probably" Drogheda. We'll look at Waterford as well. It's fairly soon isn't it? Major problem is that it's E400 to Kilkenny, so you'd be looking at E600+ to Waterford. A fair bit of money when you have trains for E30 and cars available as well. Just stay over the night and have a few pints.

Well €600 by €20 each would be 30 people. Not out of the question to get something near that if everyone that goes to away games is available. I'd say we could definitely get 20 people and I'm sure most people wouldn't have a problem paying €5 extra if needs be.

Lads,

I cant see how the bus driver would charge an extra 200 notes to make the extra 60 mile round trip from Kilkenny to Waterford. You would be nearly better off hopping on the train and doing an overnighter in Waterford. Lots of Dublin & northern based fans do it. Waterford is easy to get to either by rail or bus and the timetables are very accomodating and convenient. If any of you are interested in staying overnight, there are some B&B's near the ground. Plus there are quite a few Waterford hotels that do group deals and that being not a big place, the RSC is very close to the town centre.

Let me know.

P.S. If ye brought down a full bus load........fair fvcks to ye if ye do it.

How long does the train take & how far from the station is the RSC by taxi & what are the chances of gettin a taxi from the station at 7:30 on a Friday?

Train is 2˝ hours (http://www.irishrail.ie/your_journey/timetables_junction1.asp).

Ground is about ten minutes by car from the train station, traffic permitting.

I think there's a taxi rank at the station; can't remember though.

Sure, and we should have 1200 at our next home game. Have you been talking with Kevin again?

Might be up for heading down on the train alright. How much?

EDIT: never mind: http://iarnrodeireann.ie/your_ticket/fares_enquiries.asp €23/€29.

I repeat again, I'd be very interested. Maybe the girlfriend and the younger brother too. Not sure if I would stay overnight though, so I'd personally prefer a bus run.

You should come down. We'll be going for three wins in a row at that stage:D . Like Partizan, I can't understand how a bus could be 600 euro to Waterford. Ye should get a quote.

If you get the train, I'll ring the club and see could we have a few of the big taxis waiting for you or something. One of the local taxi firms are one of our main sponsors and the club would surely be delighted to have a group of paying away fans. If you decide to do that, let me know and we'll see what the club can do.

An adult 5 day return is 29 euro on the train and we could give ye a hand arranging accomodation.

Ah, we'll be down alright. It's just a question of whether it's in two cars and a bit of a train or a bus. We'll check out a price anyway and see what happens.

Bluemovie, dunno if I'll personally take any of that up, but it's much appreciated.

When would a bus have to leave the Montrose to get there in time? If it's 3 or after I might have two plus myself going. Is there any interest in this?

Poor Student
12/09/2006, 6:12 PM
Pineapple says we need at least 20 to make this break even. It's highly unlikely we'll get this together but we have so far:

Poor Student
Poor Student's brother
Gooner Student
Harpo (said he'd go either way)
Pinapple Stu
Schumi (I assume)
Dmythdman (still want to go?)

That's 7. Lefty, Colie, Reginald, any of you interested? Can someone find out if they are? Plus Drunken Deco, his posse and other randomers.

Bottom line - we didn't put it in our original budget, and we aren't up on our budget, therefore we can't afford to spend any money on it. If we were Shels, we'd be OK, but alas...

Schumi - did you get a quote in the end?

Poor Student
12/09/2006, 6:22 PM
Not sure if that's directed at me Pineapple or just a general point to others (I did get your text;) ). I perfectly understand, I'm just seeing if we can somehow muster the numbers. They do exist but are rarely all available at once. Are Bald Student, Student Mullet, Aberdonian Stu or John83 interested at all too? Did you try to get word to the others above?

Aberdonian Stu
12/09/2006, 6:25 PM
I have far, far, far too much work to do.

Never thought I'd be saying that.

Also I can't afford it with my holiday coming up. Don't quote the cheapness of the bus, the ancillary expenses are the killer for me.

I'm definitely going.

Unless 12 more (at least) can be russled up very fast you won't be going by hired bus. I can't contact anyone else but the ones who've already agreed, so it's up to others.

Bus at 4:00 will get you there at 7:00. Bus at 2:30 will get you there at 5:30.

http://www.irishrail.ie/your_journey/timetables_junction1.asp

Train at 3:05 will get you there at 5:35, train at 4:25 will get you there at 7.

I really don't think I can head unless I get back the same night.

Hence the reason to push for a bus. You won't be getting back with public transport. Rope some mates in.;)

Dman,
I can't log into btid at the moment. Not sure if anyone got back to you about the chance of a lift, but I'd say there's no chance unfortunately. There's only one fella that drives back to Dublin immediately after the match, but he can't make it on Friday. I stay down with the parents on the Friday night (they think it's for their benefit that I'm home once a fortnight:D ).

As I'm sure you're aware, there are no trains or buses back after the match (what kind of a country do you think this is, eh?) so you'd have to stay overnight if you're going by public transport.

If that's the case, forget about the 4pm bus. Friday traffic and stopping in every village and hamlet means that you wouldn't make it to the RSC for kick-off. The 2.30 bus would have you down by 6. Also, do you know the Rapid Express/JJ Kavanagh buses? They go from Ulster Bank, George's Quay (opposite the Custom House) at 1.15, 3.00, 4.15. I often get the 3 o'clock which gets you down between 6 and 6.30. From the city centre, you have the choice of a bus, taxi or 15 minute walk to the RSC.

Didn't get any response, but didn't expect any. Thanks for the info on the buses.
