Like fairy cakes?
It's Rice Krispie Cakes, and it is a FACT.
Since when did you support Bohs?
I used to work for Kellogg's in the factory that makes Rice Krispies, obviously lending weight to my view point. :D
Who ate all the cakes?

43, reared in London, Belfast and Dublin and they were buns in all three.
Cakes are something you cut with a knife, like birthday cake, or wedding cake - with the exception of jaffa cakes and they're notable purely cos they are the exception. Cakes have to be baked - you try putting chocolate in the oven and see where it gets you.

Boxing Day is English/British and Stephen's Day is Irish. No debate over that!
True its British but as a citizen of the British Empire I am sticking to my guns....anyway I prefer the story behind Boxing Day than another stupid saints day. I like the idea of the poor being given the excess of the rich....robin hood type sentimentality.

And btw Stann, D'Arcy was actually not doing the show last week, so a bit of an uncalled for rant!
Didn't listen to the show to be honest, never do anymore, but a rant against D'arcy is never uncalled for! :D
And it's still buns!
And Stephens' Day Magicme! :p

It's cake not bun, just as it's barm not muffin.
The great Manc barm/muffin debate shows up on here! Can't comment on that one but as regards cake/bun..bun is what I've always called it. No point in me changing to your high society ways now.

Don't know but I said bun and I'm from the Southside.
bun is what I've always called it. No point in me changing to your high society ways now.
And you were right to do so sir!
But that's not the point. This is not a 'what did you call it back in the day' debate. This is about there never having been such a thing as a Rice Krispie (Crispie) Cake. Ever!
All those who think there was are suffering from a collective psychosis of worrying proportions.
So now. :p

Cakes,Cakes. (I am astonished at the size of the Bun lobby) I even consulted my Mum on this. She also said my generation were a cheap birthday party -couple of large bottles of 7-up and rice crispy CAKES.

Just spoke to a scottish friend of mine, who said cakes. What an idiot. But in Scotland, they usually use cornflakes, not rice krispies. Barbarians.

I've only ever seen Cornflake cakes in Ireland. Agree that the concept of a cornflake version is barbaric but my refined Scottish buddies love their rice krispie cakes.

The figures dont lie.
All the "cake" crowd have to offer is the fact that Fairy cakes are the same size.
But we in the "bun" crowd have size, ingredients (whoever heard of rice krispies in a cake) and most importantly, the fact that we are right, on our side.
5790 references...
5790 wrong : 91 right references
So for every one person correct about using the term "bun", we have 63.62 people wrong....we can't let this 'wrong' rate go on anymore people:(

Yes its a shocking statistic. I think the irish government should start sending out leaflets to all those poor confused people. Some re-education classes might be in order as well. A TV advertising campaign wouldn't be a bad idea as well, also a poster campaign.
Cake, has to be. Never ever used the word bun when i was a nipper..
Its never too late to change if thats what your worried about
go on say it.....Rice Krispy buns
Its easy;)

Are you suggesting that a "cake" is hard before you put it in the oven? You've lost me, mate.
Besides, you don't put Rice Crispie Buns in the oven.
I'm sticking to the most simple proof, in that you need bun cases to make Rice Crispie Buns...
joeSoap
29/08/2006, 11:43 AM
But you do need cases to make Fairy Cakes...
And are Jaffa Cakes really cakes or biscuits...no doubt at all...they're biscuits!!
Is is Apple Pie, or Apple Tart...........
The list goes on and on and on......
Peadar
29/08/2006, 11:47 AM
But you do need cases to make Fairy Cakes...
Not specifically but it can lead to them being easier to remove from the baking tray.
And are Jaffa Cakes really cakes or biscuits...no doubt at all...they're biscuits!!
Not biscuits in the true sense that a biscuit is crunchy.
Jaffa cakes are made from sponge, like the sponge cake.
Is is Apple Pie, or Apple Tart...
Apple Pie and Apple Tart are two different things...
joeSoap
29/08/2006, 11:55 AM
Depends on where you get it...
Apple Crumble and Apple Pie are the same thing where I come from, but the apple tart is different....slimmer and the crust is crunchier....
