How do ye think we will get on on Friday night? Hopefully the curse of the old bogey team wont strike again. IMO, if we were to lose to UCD, all the hope and optimism that was in air after the Shels match would quickley dissappear.
I wonder will there be another big crowd? Hopefully all those at the last game were impressed and will come back again this time.

Im not going to give a prediction.......... im far too superstitious for that.;)

C'mon City!:)

If the weather stays the same, I'd hope for another 3-4,000. As you say we HAVE to win to keep the momentum of the Shels game going.

2-1 City

but I think if we beat UCD, it might be an even bigger result than the shels one.

I'm not very optimistic about this game. I don't think our defence has been great in the first two games although if Cork don't have any more ideas than last year, we'll be fine;) . I think we will score goals though. Robbie Doyle should do well (given that he won't be trying too hard, as he did against Bray) and Sean Finn has been good.

so what i'm saying is the shels result started that off, beating / no stuffing the eircom league champions (or are they the league of ireland champions.. i forget) has given the team the confidence to go on and hopefully beat ucd on friday

had they lost to $hels or even been hammered as alot of people predicted then the morale and crowds would have been low and it would have given the anti murph bridgade ammo to start up again..

with potentially the team and morale going into freefall

BUT we stopped the rot , we played like brazil, the new boys done good :) and morale on and off the pitch is now high, the place was buzzing against shels and this can continue now into ucd and for the rest of the season

prediction 2-0
woods and o'callaghan (tra la la la la laaaa :) )

i wouldn't take any notice of schumi, the boy is pulling our leg. Remember last DEc when UCD played us off the pitch 2-0 with a 37 year old playing the game of his life.:D

I settle for a win and a big crowd. I'll be there:cool:

outstanding news dalo that you can make it down for the game, i'm sure brian lennox and everyone else associated with the club will be delighted with the news..

Yeah James, we have plenty of reasons to be confident. Morale must now be high and IMO it was very important for attendances that City played so well in front of a big crowd, most of them will come back now, if we had lost these people wouldnt be seen at the cross for another year.

hence why beating $hels was more NB then beating UCDgiven the sequencing of matches..that is

losing to shels and then beating ucd.. people would go ah well they lost the big test against shels.. and shure they only beat ucd (sry schumi :) )..

as oppose to: beat shels, morale high.. more likely to beat ucd then, and all rosey in the garden and relatively abuse free shed now that eanna's in germany :)

lets just say imo he's still on some pretty thin ice :P
but team doing well is an easy excuse to gloss over his inadequacies as a manager and the fact thats he's probably not human :P

*the way i look at it now, they must be some team, despite having murph in charge to have beaten $hels

Fùck off, we've got enough slagging over this for the past 7 months.;) You would have thought that Cork actually winning a game might have distracted people but obviously not:D

See ya in the Horseshoe before the game.

PJ Turners (used to be The Beer Garden) are sposnsoring the game and I think a lot of people (including the players) are going there after the game.

Billy Woods is set to make his first appearance for Cork City since his return from Shamrock Rovers in Friday night's clash with UCD at Turner's Cross. Woods was ruled out for City's opener with Shels due to an ankle injury, but has recovered in the two weeks since.

One of Liam Murphy's other pre-season signings, ex-Longford midfielder Alan Reynolds, is also available for selection, having served his one-game suspension.

Declan Daly has resumed light training this week, but is still unavailable along with James Mulligan, Greg O'Halloran and Conor O'Grady.

City have failed to beat their bogey team in the last five outings. A Pat Morley brace in October 2000 secured their most recent win over the Students in a 2-1 home victory.

after the way the team played against shels who will be left off the team to make way for woods ? (that is if billy does make the starting lineup).

also, the more you hear about shels and their performances since, the more unimpressed i get about the quality of their team. our real strength will be measured against Bohs or Pats.

With Conor still out who'll play centre midfield? With Doolin still playing (think played the 90mins the other week) maybe we need someone to stay close to him & ensure he doesn't move far away from his own penalty area.......?

good point pete. the team and management badly underestimated the impact doolin would have on the game when they played last dec. he ran the show and we lost 2-0

if bennett and colin t play in midfield then i reckon colin T might do the man marking job on him. it would have better to have greg in there with o'grady but it ain't going to happen for a while yet either way it is vital to watch doolin.

this will be a big test for the team

Cork City boss Liam Murphy is set to give Alan Reynolds and Billy Woods their first appearances for the club against UCD at Turner’s Park, Kick-Off at 7.45pm.

Woods, who returned to City following a spell at Shamrock Rovers, missed the Leesiders’ 3-0 opening day win over Shelbourne, but has now recovered from an ankle injury sustained in pre-season.

Ex-Longford Town midfielder Alan Reynolds is also set to make his debut after serving a one-match ban.

If we ever had crowd trouble at an away game...(or any game for that matter) i'd be proud to have enough of us there to be called a crowd.

No pineapple juice inside the ground this time around:)

A.

PS - Like Schumi i'm not optimistic either but i haven't seen a game yet this season. Still, taking the lead against Bohs sounded great, then from what i hear we shut up shop which sounds typically crap. The result v Bray was grand. Hopefully we can come away from Cork without a defeat and not a poor show from our first three. I get the feeling we're going to have a hard time staying up this season unless we improve on last season. Doolin showed some really promising signs last year and hopefully it'll come good.

Getting Sean Finn back is a big plus. Not worried about Grogan. he hardly ever played and when he did at the end of last season he never really shone anyway (A Pity cos he could have been a great player for the term).

I can see the game being a draw. I get the feeling Cork will expect to win and for this reason i think they might be a little shocked if things don't go their way early on. Looking forward to it anyway. At last i can get to a game!

I can't think of the last time I saw us even play well against UCD at the Cross, but I'm hoping that my enforced absense will reverse the trend. Have to make do my aertel online for score updates I suppose. We need a good start - we always seem to expect to beat UCD from the outset but the inevitable happens once the game kicks off and more often than not we are completely outplayed by them.
