Just wondering who people reckon is the best player in the league.

Pat McCourt, Joxer and George O'Callaghan would all be most people's list but having seen the form that Joseph Ndo is in at the moment, I would have to give him my vote. Make sure you watch TV3 tonight to see his goal from Friday.

A totally different player but another who deserves huge credit at the moment is Sean Dillon. What a signing he has turned out to be for Shels. He is very comfortable on the ball but doesn't take unnecessary risks and his partnership with Hawkins gives the likes of Ryan, Byrne and Ryan the base for them to show off their skills

Joe Gamble & Stuey Byrne would also have to be considered but Ndo is probably the form player at the moment alright.

Anyone who picks Joxer is an idiot. FACT!

O'Callaghan, Stuey Byrne or Owen heary for me.

Well apart from his fantastic back pass against Dublin City :D

Ndo for me is superb, best player in the league IMO.

Gamble gives him a run for his money though, superb player. Mentions must also go to Heary, O'Callaghan and Keegan from Drogheda who's had a great season so far.

Also they might not be the best players in the league but a special mention must go to Paul Keegan and Trevor Molloy whom have realy stood out for St. Pats this season, still plenty of life in the old legs.

Joey Ndo - it has to be, he is worth the admission fee alone. If he doesn't win this month's player of the month award, I'll eat my hat!

I think players have to be playing in european games to be considered as shows ability to move up to a higher level.

Joe Gamble. Honourable mention to Mick Devine - performances in european games have been consistently great.

So if Devine, for eaxample, doesn't compare well to Ryan, for example, in an el setting, that wouldn't preclude him from being thought of as the best keeper in the country because he's better than Dean delaney (and Dan Connor and Derry's keeper (couldn't tell you...) even though only a handful have seem them play this year in europe, and nobody has seen them all to compare...

well he is not better than John O'Hara for Sligo Rovers.
I am biased but ask any oppositon fan who has seen him play or seen him on ELW and they will agree.

As for best player, everyone is going to say a player from their own team but the best player for me(outside Sligo Rovers) is Pat McCourt.
I know he is very quite during the game but when he gets the ball, you know he is gonna do something good.A bit like Ronaldinho or Henry.

There are some players in the league with amazing talent who just dont raise their games often enough but when they do they're streets ahead of the rest, I'm thinking of the likes of Neale Fenn, Trevor Molloy and Jason Byrne in particular.

Otherwise Ndo, Joey Gamble, Stuey Byrne, Paisley

In fairness Dodge I don't think anybody would claim that Joxer is the best player in the league but he must be well in with a shout for best young player - he's only 19. In fact I can't think of anybody in the 18-21 bracket even close to his ability in our league.

Best player for me is still O'Callaghan.

Kildare Fan thought he'd be on most people's lists. He's talented alright but we've all see far too many talented players go by the wayside

I personally get really riled by these debates. We do not get anywhere near enough live TV coverage for fans to judge other team's players.

This debate was over for me when I seen Pat Mc Court's name mentioned. Most City fans will tell you that Pat is a genius but not as important or good as Ciaran Martyn or Barry Molloy.

On Barry Molloy.....I have never ever seen Baz get praise but he has faced everyones hero Joe Gamble twice and had him in his pocket. I can only confidently say the players I mention are the best at my club and anything outside that I am relativly ignorant about.

Devine mentioned anywhere near best player in the league? He's not even the best keeper...;)

It's impossible to tell, it depends on what sort of player fits into a team. A good defender would probably look great at Waterford or *perhaps* a creative midfielder at Longford would be brilliant and we'd all start talking about him.

Though Farrelly is doing an outstanding job week in week out...:)

Toss up between Ndo and Gamble for me. Joxer has great potential but definitly not best in league. Martyn is class but Id have Gamble, Ndo and McCourt ahead of him.

Also Devine is the best keeper around - pure class

He's certainly not the best "by a mile". In fact there's a fairly high stanard of keepers in the league. IMO Barry Ryan is the best (and I've had this opinion since his UCD Days)

His performanes in Europe this year and last year have been unreal

he may have done well in the second leg, but he was very dodgy in the first leg, and almost cost an away goal with a terrible howler when he let the free kick under his body.

he is 'one of' the best, but wouldn't say that he is 'the best' is beyond doubt by any means

All the familiar names mentioned above i concur with ie Heary, McCourt, Gavin, Ndo, George.
I'd throw in Jason Byrne aswell definately.
Alan Bennett has been Citys most important player recently imo.

But my choice for best player would be Gamble (biased).

Also concur with whoever said Molloy etc turn it on the odd time but don't get to showcase it enough.
For me, Neale Fenn is head and shoulders above anyone on the Cross pitch . . . . . . sometimes.

Devines' age and experience must also be taken into acount, Devine is 33! where as the rest of his rivals are a good bit younger(Connor 25, Forde 26, Ryan 27, Delaney 26)

Who's under-rating Martyn?

I think that if this straw poll were taken 3 months ago there'd be a lot less Ndo mentioned and maybe a bit more O'Callaghan?

Well I don't think he gets the praise he deserves. He is a far more important player for Derry than McCourt but yet almost all the media spotlight is put in McCourt.

Forde is atrocious and as far as I can see is Derry's weakest point by a stretch...(as has been mentioned on here before:D )

Murphy is the best keeper in the league for some time and I am not being biased.

Altho Fordey makes a few mistakes he more than makes up for them. Against gothenburg, he made two world class saves and kept us in front. He always comes up trumps in the big games so i wudnt go as far as saying he's atrocious.

I have to agree, not being bias but Devine IMO is international standard with only Shay Given ahead of him. His performances against DIF away, Prague away and Limassol away have been breathtaking and without him we would not have won the league or progressed far in Europe over the years.

For me the best player in the league, is Joey Ndo, followed closely by Gamble.
