Good to see Dicker can remain in The Championship. The greening of Ipswich may continue!

Not a word on Dicker in the last few weeks. Doesn't seem to have signed with anyone yet, and the new English season is just around the corner.
Anyone heard anything on him?

Now on trial (http://www.barnsley-chronicle.co.uk/mobile/sport/article/6857) with Barnsley along with Paddy McCourt.
Really surprising that he's still clubless at this stage.

Mad. Has he injury problems from Brighton? Thought the broken leg had healed ok; he played a few games after that.

Playing very well for Dale at the moment. Too good for League Two.
Also starring is a Blackburn loanee, Jack O'Connell, an England youth cap.
But with a name like that.... :)
C'mon Jack, do the right thing!

Dicker's star has fallen big time in recent weeks with Rochdale - he's out of favour and not popoular with the fans and it wouldn't be a surprise if he gets released in the transfer window.

He was integral in Poyet's Brighton side that won promotion to the Championship. He's had a couple of lengthy injury lay offs since then. He mustn't have recovered fully.
Gary Deegan is another player whose star has fallen drastically, again partly due to injury problems.

Saw on a Rochdale forum a while back that some fans were noting that he was clearly too good for the division. But I think he only has a contract till January, so he's presumably looking either for a move or a contract extension. No idea where he is with regards either. Big fall from grace if he ends up not good enough for Rochdale having been a Championship player last year.

A move up a division, which is what he'd been targetting when only signing with Rochdale till January.
Also, John Gregory - blast from the past there!

Gary Dicker faces another summer of uncertainty after being released by Crawley. Mark Connolly and Billy Clarke will also have to find new clubs.

Good article on Dicker.
“But it’s (Crawley) a Conference club in League One and that sums it up really. Some of the stuff that happened there wouldn’t happen at a League of Ireland club. For instance, travelling to away games and there is no water or food on the bus. Little things that usually get done.”

Actually saw him play for Crawley against Crewe last month; thought he was the best Crawley player on the pitch (granted, Crawley were wojus). About the only Crawley player with a first touch. Bit surprised that he got let go. Should have no problems finding a new club, but his career has been weird the last twelve months or so (and that article's interesting, with the bit about loanees maybe hinting at why)

Interesting comments about the facilities at Crawley. I thought they has big investment and were going to create a proper professional structure there?

Two year deal. Ain't so shabby given his recent insecurity.
Was just thinking there of a sort of economic disparity that tends to arise among Irish players in Scotland and England that are Dicker's age. Doesn't there tend to be less security for players who come up in the LOI? I mean, Dicker landed at Stockport at 21 and probably not on a long-term contract or hefty wage. On the other hand, I am aware of a lad who is a few years younger than Dicker who has managed to accumulate a small property portfolio via the wages he has earned since going over to England as a teenager and being on the receiving end of well-paid, reasonably long-term contracts. Has played in similar levels to those Dicker has in his time in England.
I suppose for every Shane Long there's a Karl Sheppard i.e. someone who doesn't manage to earn that an important second contract in England with security in term and remuneration.

I don't follow this one:

He's going to play with the under 23s and start coaching? Why not tell him play not coach. Very strange if there is a young and decent midfielder on the bench.

Oh wait. Every club is allowed one player and Brighton's last was Andrew Crofts who did it for 2 years then moved into full time coach role. Interesting path.
