I know a guy that went to bratislava to watch a celtic european tie. a week before the game they switched the ties and celtic were at home.
So there they were, six celtic fans watching the match in a boozer in bratislava, whilst the game was in Glasgow.....they said they had a ball.
Joe Soap .....just head out there you'll have a ball

I was in Teplice a few years back and I can safely say it is the deadest place I have ever been to so my advice is to stay in Prague, that's what I'll be doing anway. It's a health spa town so they get a lot of elderly German tourists there for health reasons. It's easy enough to get to so I wouldn't be concerned about transport to and from the game.

Just looking at a map of Central Europe there - you could really go on a proper tour if you wanted...
Wednesday - fly Dublin-Vienna (Austria)
Thursday - Vienna to Budapest (Hungary) (100 miles)
Friday - Budapest to Bratislava (Slovakia) (95 miles)
Saturday - Match in Trnava (20 miles away)
Sunday - Bratislava to Auschwitz/Oswiecim (Poland) (150 miles)
Monday - Auschwitz to Prague (Czech Republic) (100 miles)
Tuesday - Prague to Teplice (40 miles)
Wednesday - Match in Teplice
Thursday - Teplice to Dresden (Germany) (20 miles)
Friday - Dresden to Berlin (100 miles)
Sunday - fly Berlin-Dublin
Six countries in one trip, and cheaper flights in and out 'cos you're not going via the countries we're playing.
What's the story with speed limits in Europe? Is it only in France and Germany there's no speed limits on the motorways? Even at 50 mph average, you're talking no more than three hours' travel for any one trip.

The rugby World Cup in France is on around that time as well. You only miss one of Ireland's rugby games if you go to the 2 football matches in Teplice and Prague.

Nuts to that - can't stand rugby! :)

Good call (it's Trnava). About the same distance from Budapest but 20 miles nearer Auschwitz. Though Bratislava's supposed to be a nice city, so could always stay there and pop out to Trnava for the match.

Fair enough, whatever floats your boat. Football is definitely the priority between it and rugby but I'll still be looking into getting over to Bordeaux after the games in Teplice and Prague are over to catch some of the World Cup.

THe rugby matches are Ireland versus African qualifier on Sun 8th September and Ireland versus the third European qualifier on Saturday 15th September. Both games in Bordeaux.

Czech rail. (http://www.cd.cz/)
Journey from Prague to Teplice looks like it's about two hours, which is more than I thought it'd be. About 200Kc, which is a fiver, I think. Regular trains again - every couple of hours.

What ever you do, do not stay in Teplice. You cannot imagine a town with less life to it. I reckon that Prague is the only way to go.

I'm on the Czech Airlines flight into Prague on Wednesday morning. I'll be picking up a rental car to drive to Teplice. PM me if you're interested in a lift and contributing to the cost. My mates are staying out for the week subject to the All Ireland final pairing.
Not sure if I'm coming back or not as I'm either driving on to Berlin to fly home Thursday morning or back Friday from Prague.

Just booked the trip home from Prague to Dublin on the Sunday - leaves at 8:25pm and gets in at 10:00pm. E117 with Aer Lingus, which isn't bad for travelling half way across the continent! First person on the flight (can only book from today), so I've got the seat nearest the front of the plane! :)
Think I have to wait till December to book Ryanair to Vienna to complete the most direct trip I'll ever have made!

I actually think Ryanair fly direct to Bratislava and call it Vienna.
If you booked last week (when the 330 day window opened) you could have got out to Vienna with Aer Lingus for e55 on the 5th or 6th of Sept., now it's gone into the e100 + range.

Just booked direct flight home on the Thursday with Aer Lingus €150 incl taxes...I'd say you could get a bit cheaper stopping over but I'm thinking that after a long week of heavy drinking it might be worth spending the few extra quid to go straight home to me bed!! :D

Your as well flying direct as if you have short stopover( you could end up missing connection) and if you have a long stopover you will probably end up in the bar:rolleyes: They both could end up costing you more in the long run.
