if i was talking about the general public, Id say England. I live in England and have made some great friends from here, ive been treated very well here coming from another country, so if we're talking the fans, yes it'd be ok to see them win it. Just ok. Just. BUT the gutter press, their cockiness, their readiness to still go on about '66, their side swipes at the Germans, war-jokes, and the likes making it unbearable to most neutrals not to dislike England.... Caught between two stools here, id have to say Germany...

.... Caught between two stools here,...

I'm not keen on either of them but it's a bit harsh to describe them as stools :D

England.

Beyond the fact that I've English relatives, have had lots of pleasant times in England and think we're way more like them than we ever like to admit -an English world cup win isn't going to add a % point to the interest rate on my mortgage ...a German one just might.

England for me. They saved us from the Nazis in WW2 when we were too chicken to stand up to Hitler

Being English, it will have to be the boys in white.

I hate the English gutter press and don't undertand why anyone here buys the British tabloids.

When England are knocked out, I will automatically support Germany. When I was growing up there was a profound respect for the Germans - I think it was the post-war economic miracle.

I would also support the USA - they are the rising power in world football now - No 6 in the world.

Granted they have a good lot of young players coming through like Beasley and Freddy Adu, who is probably goiong to be the first American football superstar, and they also have older, experienced players like Pope and Donovan.

However, I honestly don't believe that the FIFA rankings system determines anything.

Because they're hypocritical braindead idiots.
Chances are that they're the same people who complain about the English media yet feel compelled to buy their newspapers.

I was living in London during WC 98 and I gave the usual Irish retort of "we would never hear the end of it if you lot won it" to a confused looking englishman I was having a beer with. "What on Irish television?" he indignantly inquires.:o

From what I've seen on TV last night I can only be sure of one thing (at least...). Germany won't win the WC, nor will England.
Germany struggled for the whole game against Japan (who made a very strong impression) and should have lost by 3 or 4 goals to nil.
But as usual they were lucky and managed to get a draw.
There is a real hype now going on in Germany after their 7-0 victory over Luxembourg !!! Believe or not. But yesterdays display was awful.

Did anyone see in that B international last week the diving of one Joe Cole when he came on. The commentators merely stated: 'Joe Cole trying to win a peno there'. Had it been a long-haired latino player they would have ranted on about the disgraceful culture of diving in such countries etc. Just another example of the bias of their media.

Agree with Londonirish7 , neither of them have a prayer but if both made the final id watch old episodes of Glenroe instead :)

I wouldnt personally, because I dont complain about the people who dive, IMO its up to the refs to repremand them. The RTE panel for example do complain about disgraceful diving and I believe they would call Duff or Keane on blatant diving, and I even think they have done in the past.
