So what has been the best album of 2005?
I am exposed to a limited amount of new music so I'm using this opportunity to see what I need to check out (got into Interpol because of recommendations on this site :) )

Nominees please , I'll start the ball rolling:
Kaiser Chiefs - Employment
Kasabian - Kasabian
The Bravery -The Bravery
Stars of CCTV - Hard-Fi
Bloc Party -Silent Alarm (definitely my vote)

Could we get a shortlist of ten maybe? Its never going to satisify everyone but if you go on sales and reviews and what sort of music people seem to listen to around here you could probably pull up ten, otherwise we'll be here all day with the nominations

if you go on sales

I wouldn't go on sales or we'll have a choice between Il Divo, The Sligo 4 and Fat Robbie.

Totally agree. Crap year for music. Just a rehash of indie and post punk guitar pop from decades ago. Wedding Present, Fall, The Jam anyone!!

Oh for a bit of originality. Can't even think of one good album from this year!
Well Mylo - Destroy Rock N Roll (appropriately enough)

Okay you start a new thread entitled 'anto1208 album of the year'(should be interesting) , but this is based on nominations from everyone whether you agree with them or not. As a previous poster noted, you cant please everyone, choose 'other' if you want.

RE Bloc Party: Seems to me people either love them or hate them.

I love listening to them on campus and writing their name on my retro bag

NO way, KT tunstall has two nominations, Damo and FF have had one

Damo had two(anto1208 and jorge) although it wouldnt be my preference. FF were in because it was one of the big albums of the year (similarly Coldplay, Anthony and the Johnsons, Kaiser Chiefs) but I'll consider replacing it with KT Tunstall. I didnt know she is taken seriously as an artist, I personally wouldnt be a fan at all.

Reviewed list to follow, further nominations welcome.

But that final list is far from a list of the best albums of the year.

Thunder and Consilation ain't too bad every now and then. Was at Reading in 92 as well don't remember seeing them there though. Thought they were one of the best live bands I ever saw even with all those clogs trying to trample you underneath!!
BTW I think we're just showing our age now, best leave this thread to all the students.

Voted for Kasabian but me thinks that was a 2004 Release.

The Magic Numbers & Arcade Fire are two very worthy choices. Also thought Goralliaz Demon Days was very Good

Goldfrapp Supernature would be one I would also add to list. That I havn't seen mentioned yet

I thought they had hung up their clogs!

No, the Army are still going strong, they played the Temple Bar Music Centre on December 3rd, Fecking great show. They are celebrating 25 years on the road. They have played over in Dublin & Cork the last four/five years around Christmas time.

Also check out Justin Sullivan’s solo cd Navigating By The Stars, a great chill-out album

Here is a link for the recent show in Koln from the 10th December http://www.newmodelarmy.org/fhome.htm just go the Koln 10/12/05 page on the message board and download.

Gorillaz are nothing more than blur b-song lyrics with some guy who appears now and then to rap. I blame William Orbit, he caused this irrepairable damage when he produced 13 for blur.

Got to be Gypsy Punks by Gogol Bordello; Ukrainian punk music, superb stuff.

Surely no-one can seriously nominate; Hard fi, the Kasier Chiefs or Razorlight as even being good albums never mind one of the best albums of the year, if any of them were playing in my back garden i'd buy a gun.
