Ever since the media mentioned McClean to Derry, he's went from not being in the squad or an unused sub to starting every game for Wrexham
Really can't see him going anywhere until at least the summer. They have a chance of making the play offs
He has an outside chance of making the World Cup playoffs in March too if we're honest. Kevin O'Toole was a bit of a mental callup last time

Listen - Lee J Lynch on new role with Limerick FC (https://www.live95fm.ie/news/sport/listen-lee-j-lynch-on-new-role-with-limerick-fc/)
This interview is embarrassing.
One person, who is involved in Limerick FC and is getting a wedge to manage their junior side, interviewing the newly announced sporting director of the same club and letting on nothing.
Basically taking advantage of a radio slot to further their agenda and let people know that they're going to rebrand as Limerick United (which has been known with a while as Limerickunited.com redirects to their Facebook) and that they want to merge with Treaty United in the medium term.
Now while Treaty United are far from perfect (what League of Ireland club is), why any club would want to merge with one that has:
- Dennis Lukens
- Pat O'Sullivan
- Mark Heffernan (who you will find some interesting Google results on) (https://www.google.com/search?q=mark+heffernan+limerick&oq=&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUqBggBEEUYOzIGCAAQRRg5MgYIARBFGD syDggCEEUYJxg7GIAEGIoFMgYIAxBFGDsyCAgEEEUYJxg7MgYI BRBFGDwyBggGEEUYPDIGCAcQRRg9Mg0ICBAAGJECGIAEGIoFMg 0ICRAAGJECGIAEGIoFMg0IChAAGJECGIAEGIoFMg0ICxAuGJEC GIAEGIoFMg8IDBAuGBQYhwIYsQMYgAQyDAgNEAAYFBiHAhiABD IHCA4QLhiABNIBCDIzMzVqMGo3qAIUsAIB8QVJSh1ea9E39fEF SUodXmvRN_U&client=ms-android-google&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8)
Combined with the fact that in their last few years of Senior football, Limerick FC oversaw:
- Not paying wages for part of 2018 and for almost the entirety of 2019.
- The above was no doubt a catalyst for murky people to get involved with players which led to much publicised match fixing.
- That match fixing led to a CAB raid on a senior training session which saw teenagers have their bags searched and phones taken, amongst the rest of the players.
- Sean Russell having his career ended due to the negligence of the club.
- The club having an away kit (https://www.footballkitarchive.com/limerick-fc-2019-away-kit/91728/) which they never actually had because they couldn't afford it.
You'd want to be morally bankrupt to put all of the above that happened in your rear view mirror and align yourself with Limerick FC. What issues there are with Treaty United are easier to fix than it is to rejuvenate Limerick FC.
In the short term the only way that Limerick can "hurt" Treaty is via the academy, but outside of a few local names I don't know what else Limerick have going for them.
When did the interviewer leave Treaty, what happened there?

I would have thought that if Derry really wanted to keep him they would have been able to match Kenny/Kelleher's offer. Doesn't POD win the battle of the billionaires regarding the depth of his pockets?
I don't think we really did.

He has already spoken about that when rumours about him getting called up recently came up and said it's all newspaper nonsense and he's retired

He also said that if he was ever needed and called up he would never refuse. So it depends on how badly we eed someone that could play left wing back. If he did get a call and had a chance of bowing out after beng in a WC squad?! Coleman's desire and leadership made such a difference, maybe we should rate McCleans sheer drive when he was with Ireland. Moving back to Derry would be fitting for a player who loves his home club and not in it for a final payday if iy were ever to happen.
In fighting is inevitable in Limerick. They can't help themselves be it football or charitable organisations falling out.
Limerick would have little relevance on the south west.
Limerick probably should be in a stronger position in the Mid West but seems to be beyond them. Clare and Tipperary have shown little ambition.
For those of us not overly familiar, what would the support area be like within the city for Treaty and for Limerick FC, for example is there a particular side of the city with stronger roots for either?
Also would a lot of previous Limerick fans have followed Treaty when they got the FD licence / spot ?

There is no support at present for Limerick FC as they only have a 15s and 17s team, both of whom lose by a cricket score weekly.
The vast majority of people followed Treaty went everything went south with Limerick. There's always going to be a few Limerick loyalists.

Hayden Cann signed by Waterford
A 4th LOI club in 3 seasons for him, to go with his 4 English clubs in the 2 years before that. Nailing his journeyman colours to the mast nice and early in his career for a lad that’s only just turned 22
total hoofball
09/12/2025, 8:16 PM
In fairness to Cann lots of young English players are out on a dizzying amount of loan spells and here in LOI his spell with Drogheda was a loan and Dundalk was a short-term contract with a sinking ship so quite easy for a young UK player to get tangled up with a journeyman label. It's not a surprise he might tick Waterford's box with being English and having two seasons of LOI experience including his most recent spell with a team that finished 2nd

That may be true about English young lads, but whatever the reason for the journey, the journey has still been taken ;)

Yes, definitely. Happy to keep him. The sort of versatile player every club needs, and he does a good job in the various positions he's played.

Bohs signed Hugh Martin from UCD. Only 16 so one for the future, but the club don't usually announce signings like this on their social media, so I'm guessing he's very highly regarded. Have any of the UCD lads seen him play?

Yeah it is unusual for us to make an announcement like that for a 16 year old. Maybe PS will give us the lowdown on this lad.

Pats have sold Conor Carty to Waterford for an undisclosed fee. A likeable lad for his work rate but not a great goalscorer. Worked well under Daly at Pats but this seems a strange move considering they’ve already got Amond and Lonergan. Feels like a move from one bench to another

Further proving the board didn’t trust Long last preseason and should have sacked him then rather than take the risk. We’re lucky to be playing premier division football this year, it’s good to see the board backing the new manager again.
A decent chunk of change was spent in preseason 2024 and Long got nada in preseason 2025 despite obviously flaws weaknesses in the squad. Something like 17 losses in his last 23 league games as manager. Funnily enough the bad run started around the same time there were rumours he was seeking a way out at a club closer to home. Obviously held out and got a payout in the end.

Whilst Amond has managed to stay injury free last couple years. He isn’t getting any younger and probably won’t be able to start every game especially when there’s a week with Friday-Monday-Friday games. I can imagine Carty has been signed with that in mind.
Arlo Doherty goalkeeper signed by Waterford from Derry City. Not sure if he is being signed as first choice or back up keeper as hasn't much experience.

I think he was well enough thought of when he signed for Derry. Don't know much of anything about him, but I think the expectation was that he would put serious pressure on Maher (who responded well, truth be told).
In fairness, that was all the press release stuff from the time, and it's not like the club can say anything that isn't positive. It's a brave manager who says "yeah, we've signed this kid but don't rate him, but I have to pay someone to sit on the bench for a year."

Was steadily getting better before his injury but hasnt been the same since. A fresh start and being a regular first team player could do him the world of good tho.

No update there, he’s 2 years left on his contract and was pictured at pre-season training last week. A tough second half to the season for him with injuries and admittedly he had already deservedly lost his place in the first choice starting 11 to McClelland when he picked up the patellar tendon injury away to Waterford in August but it I'd imagine he'll be sticking around next year by the looks of things

Pats have confirmed the departures of Sjoberg, McLaughlin and Kazeem - that’s 3 of last season’s full backs. With Ronan Boyce, Anto Breslin and Jay McClelland on the books for next season, there must be one more lined up to come in.

Seeing as McLaughlin is also leaving I'd have been happy to keep Axel as back-up to Boyce. Granted he largely wasn't great last year (few were), but injuries aside he is a good player. Upgradeable yes but a good player all the same and I can see Wateeford fans loving him.
Darren Robinson looked useful in the minimal opportunities he got but I'm otherwise pleased to see most of the outgoings thus far. Would be great to get even more out the door, however unlikely that may be.

The incomings will be interesting. Is Kenny having to trim
the squad next season , it’s yet to be revealed. I wonder will he have to use academy players to pad out the squad. Last season he had the luxury of seasoned back up players. Im surprised we have released both Sjoberg & McLaughlin.

Yeah was in his last year. Probably would've gotten a bit more if we'd sold earlier but he was worth keeping. Sign of the times that a few aren't happy with the fee. We've come a long way from sending lads on trial for nothing.
Hopefully he makes a mark now. Has the physicality and durability for it that others haven't.

Of tHo guys who have gone to the UK from Rovers Honohan has the best chance of making it as a regular Championship player and maybe even Prem if he gets a good run and a bit of luck.
An Enda stevens type of carear who ironically is coming the other way.

Hmm. Wouldn't be that sure. He's come a long way already in just two seasons.
Not saying he will play premier league but I don't think you can write him off completely. Id say he will end up as a Championship player personally, but if Matt Doherty can make the PL, there's hope for anyone.
