No I was referring to the reverse fixture. They were always likely to have a go.
Well that's the September fine - but theirs was larger than ours because they're repeat offenders.
We'll probably both get a bigger fine than September tbh.
At least there's little else to talk about so far though! Definitely second best, but not being completely overrun

100% penalty! They’re Never given though
Ebosele playing well but his first name on his jersey is absolute cringe

Oh crikey. Is Sammy's going off here? I think he's done his knee there
Edit - no; back on now. Didn't look good though. The injuries where you don't touch the other guy can often be the worst

Very solid so far. Probably the biggest criticism of this team is that they’ve never managed to look solid. Delighted with that. Would love to see a bit more attack but we’ve at least worried them a few times and might well have had a penalty.

Make that two penalties. Great to see the passion from Festy and the crowd getting up for it.

Didn't we boo their anthem?
I guess we did so in response our colonial suffering.
Pity Rice and Grealish aren't playing. Bring them in for Jones and Madueke and you have a majority of Irish qualified players (Rice, Grealish, Gordon, Bellingham, Kane and Gallagher) on top of the Irish international manager.
Just realised, we have 6 England eligible players. The 4 lads born there and Scales (father) and Ferguson (mother).

This is getting quite fun now. Scales smashing Kane. Breaking with intent and getting two of them booked. Maybe now we’re really seeing what HH has to offer in terms of tactics and it’s good!

Didn't think the second was a penalty. The defender got in first to head it back. I think any trip after - if there was one - was incidental and would have been a very soft penalty.
I wonder will Kane come out for the second half? He was dropped the Greece game and they seemed to cut loose without him - won 3-0 and hit the woodwork twice. Questions lately as to whether he's a super poacher but can't really pull a defence about

I agree with Bellgham, the ref is a f*cking b****x!
That’s been a brilliant half from us. Solid. Frustrated the f*ck out of them.

That booking for Kane may be bad for us if it's an excuse for Carsley to sub him off and change things around
But overall we can have no complaints whatsoever about how we've played. Especially given we were very much on the back foot for the first few minutes

This brings me back to the early 90s. Really enjoying watching Ireland defend and have a few decent breaks. If they can keep this up and we get a 0-0 it will be amazing

Feckin' love the grit, the discipline (ish), the solidity, the aggression. Excellent half. More of this, please.

You'd almost forget this is a must-win game for England too. They look like the ones playing a dead rubber game, not us.

Dangerous game to play though - it only suits them until it doesn't. But win and they're guaranteed first

And just as Greece score too, so they needed that

I think that's always a yellow in fairness. Denied Bellingham a great scoring chance
His first yellow was for something silly though - not giving the ball back or something? Right when Kane and Molumby got booked.
2-0 now. This could get ugly

Yup what I cant see cant sicken me!
More disappointed for the players than I am about a heavy beating. We should have had a penalty, soft yellows leaves us a man down, space alone nevermind resetting formation and ruthlessly punished. Isnt a fair reflection on the performance and how poor England were with ideas on how to break down the defence.

I come home from a day watching hurling..it's 0-0
Now its 4-0
But in general, we knew we were on a hiding to nothing.. we also know, we're not comparing ourselves to England for now
The first half was decent..

Overall I'm very happy. First half perfect template for hoe to play against top seeds.
Scales was awful for the penalty really poor effort from him
Really don't think we get beat if Scales doesn't make that mistKe
SS really poor all fame awful defending repeatedly and giving the ball away terribly. Can't be having him in that wide left position if that's his level
Nice to see moran on

I wonder who the man of the match is?
Collins maybe? Or O'Shea? Possibly Festy?
So many candidates

Very very good, organised, disciplined first half. Granted, England were nowhere near top gear but that's their problem.
Thought Festy was decent in the first half with how he relieved the pressure in defence with some good runs, and also made som decent defensive contributions. Szmodics a bit dodgy at times with how he gave the ball away trying to be too smart and make cunning turns.
It always felt like, once England did move through the gears, they'd get their goal and then we'd have no way back into it, but in the end, they didn't even need to get into top gear, thanks to the penalty. Any defender will give up penalties and get yellow cards like that at some point, which makes Scales' yellow in the first half even more silly.
Hard enough to stop an England team with 11. Impossible for us with 10.

Im sick after that, but Im not angry. Ive been angry plenty after Ireland matches, but Im sick because the 1st half didnt deserve the 2nd half.
We were set up extremely well. I love that we had adjusted from the Dublin game and didnt just leave ourselves open to be walked through. We were disciplined and the plan was going perfectly. In my opinion they were 2 stonewall penalties and for VAR not to even look was disgusting, but the manager did his job well in getting us prepared for this game.
The 1st 15 minutes of the 2nd half were the disaster you fear against good teams. Stupid penalty, but having Scales sent off on top of it was just a killer. The 2nd goal was a lucky bounce off Cullen right to Gordon and then the 3 was a centimeter from offside. 5 mins between the 1st and the 3rd goal and it was game over. All individual errors that you just cant get away with against top teams
If we look back over this NL I still think we have improved under Hallgrimson

Once it was 2-0 it might as well have been 10-0 and there's not much learning to be had after that. As sad as it sounds it's good that we lost this way as the players have a lot to feel aggrieved about and hopefully the dramatically improving togetherness isn't impacted by this.
Upon reflection, it's more of a shame that HH wasn't there for the June friendlies as we might have given a real game against Greece.
All in all, future is looking brighter than the Kenny days

Tough second half. I think we really have to consider Scales' position in the pecking order after that, you just can't leave the leg trailing in the box like that, especially on a yellow. Silly earlier yellow to start with as well. When there's a lad who was a standout in Ligue 1 last season on the bench in his position - it's great that he has developed from UCD to where he is at Celtic, but that just wasn't good enough.
The setup more or less worked at 11 v 11 to be fair. So credit to Hallgrimsson for that. Very unlucky to even be playing a team like England in this competition to begin with, that's not what it's meant to be about - it's supposed to be about playing teams at your own level. Hopefully we get a playoff draw that balances out the awful group draw we were given.
